You clearly didnt pay attention this window (big surprise USA! USA!)

Cavallini, Hoilett and Larin, Borjan were out for all the games. Buchanon, Vitoria and Laryea were also out vs Jamaica due to cards.

Good thing our depth hasnt been tested yet. You should get a job as a soccer analyst.

Bro, you guys have 10 times the population as us, like what, 20 MLS teams? Year round warm weather to play in, tons of corporate money $$$. Imagine what any other country would do with those resources - hint - make the 2018 world cup.

If we finish 3rd in qualifying, I'm good with that! World Cup is the goal! We're trying to make enough money for the program so we can actually hold youth national team camps! Right now, we can't afford it. World Cup will make it rain for us!

Oh snap. That’s why China must be so amazing at the game. Great analysis.

Obviously wealth and population don’t necessarily correlate with sporting excellence. That’s pretty obvious.

How about an established soccer league at the top of the pyramind and all their development resources and pro opportunities vs 3 MLS teams. Playing/training outside year round? An NCAA system that produces pro players?

The advantages are endless for a program.

No one's arguing it's China or India. Use your brain!

Many of the highest population countries struggle at soccer, meaning they are much worse than USA. China (first) doesn't have much hope. India (second), Indonesia (fourth), Pakistan (fifth), and Bangladesh (eighth) are eliminated. In the FIFA Rankings, China is 75th, India is 107th, Indonesia is 175th, Pakistan is 198th, and Bangladesh is 189th. That means three of the eight most populated countries are in the bottom 36 of the 210 teams in the FIFA Rankings. That said, I acknowledge the advantages USA has over Canada.

Jamaica won 2-0 at now-last place Honduras.

Canada has traditionally underperformed compared to the advantages they have had over other countries as well.

Both countries are just now starting to produce really quality players consistently. For the USA at least that’s in large part due to the establishment and growth of MLS academies in the 2000s. For the Canadians, it might just be a golden generation sprinkled in with some nice dual nat acquisitions.

Not that the dual nat acquisitions ever happen in the US. No way. But that said, Canada's core is either born in Canada or lived there from very early age.

Unfortunately I missed the game but after reviewing the results of this round:

    Mexico is in Qatar

USA has to drop a lot of points to miss it, so they should be fine

Canada did their homework very well and those two draws away vs MEX and USA will make the difference… I hardly doubt that other contender will do the same

Panama better get 6 points in November or things will get really ugly.

Costa Rica has to go for the 6 points as well… Canada road trip would be interesting, probably they can manage to get a draw, that would be good for them.

El Salvador has to start winning again at home vs Jamaica if they want to compete for qualification spots, then they are headed to Panama where they will aim for the W at all cost, tough match for both.

Jamaica has reborn with their away win in Honduras, they should aim for 6 points in the next window. I’m happy they are still alive because means they will put everything in their remaining games.

Honduras couldn’t perform worst honestly… last shot in the next window at home against Panama. Do or die situation. Then visiting San Jose, if they make 6 there, their fighting spirit will come back for the end of the qualifiers…

Funny thing you said that. We were missing Hutchinson, Hoillet, Borjan and Larin (three starters and a constant sub) and got draws at Azteca and in Jamaica as well as a thumping of Panama. Dismiss us at your peril.

Nobody is dismissing you. I came in here and saw more Canadian soccer arrogance which has been growing recently. Spare me the victimhood.

Canada has a good but shallow squad. There's a massive reliance on players such as Davies, Eustaquio and David.

The U.S. just played this window without, arguably, their two best players (Pulisic and Reyna)... they weathered that pretty well... Can Canada weather missing its two best players as well? Doubt it.

You've named players who aren't key pieces in the same vein the three I listed were.

Updated 'points dropped' after 6 rounds:

    Mexico: 0+2+0-2+0+2 = +2
    USA: 0-2+2+0-1+0 = -1
    Canada: -2+0+0+0+0+0 = -2
    Panama: -2+2-2-1+0-1 = -4
    Jamaica: -1-3+0-1-2+2 = -5
    Costa Rica: 0-3-2+0+0-1 = -6
    El Salvador: -2-2-1+0-1-3 = -9
    Honduras: 0+0-3-2-1-3 = -9

Massive result for Jamaica (jump from 8th to 5th in this table), who are now in a legitimate battle for the 4th spot, and a surprise result away from top 3.

El Salvador and Honduras need to win at least 1 of their 2 matches in the November window.

I actually think it's the US that have had a relatively cup-cake schedule so far, not Canada. Canada has already played away at the US & Mexico. Those are the two most difficult games in Concacaf. The US's position isn't that solid yet -- we still have to play Mexico twice, and Costa Rica & Canada away. Mexico is up three points on the US and has already played away at Costa Rica at least. Panama is down 3 points but has already played Canada away & Mexico at home.

With a narrow win over Costa Rica at home, Berhalter may be somewhat vindicated. We didn't win that game by much. Having a well-rested team probably helped. One win and one loss was better than two draws. And Costa Rica is probably better than Panama, so losing to the latter away is a better result than drawing Costa Rica at home.

I'm thinking I'm going to buy tickets for both US-Mexico and Jamaica-US... Anyone know how to get tickets for the latter?

So...you were missing Larin, a few MLS guys, someone who plays in the Serbian league, a Championship level players and a guy who plays for a mid-table Portuguese team?

Granted, those guys are better than what most Central American teams have, but they aren't exactly huge steps up from who Canada did play this window.

They’re important members of our team. Try to diminish their ability if you like, but that doesn’t change the fact they are important players for us. Jonathan David and Alphonso hasn’t to play nearly 270 mins this window as a result.

Canada are in a great spot, to be sure...

But keep in mind: the US wrecked Honduras and Panama at home, grabbed a point in Mexico, and still found a way to not qualify last time. Plenty of work still to be done...

You mean those Central American teams that finished above the US in 2018 qualifying? Canada is undefeated in 12 WC qualifying matches in 2021 and that says something about the sum of the parts.

I guess you missed the 3-0 win over El Salvador. No Davies, no David.

"Someone who plays in the Serbian league" played in the 2019-2020 Champions League Group Stage and is in the Europa League Group Stage for the second consecutive seasons.

If Honduras beats Panama, Costa Rica draws or loses at Canada, and El Salvador vs. Jamaica is a draw, the bottom five will have 6 to 8 points at the midpoint.

Mexico scored a penalty kick in stoppage time to win 2-0 at El Salvador, and the field was littered with bottles. Each team got a straight red. Mexico's Nestor Araujo, who has 54 caps, will be suspended for the game at USA.
