I can't believe he is still only 28. Seems like he's been on the semi retirement plan for a good ling time. Will be interesting to see what he does in MLS and how he stacks up to the MLS strikers who get National Team call ups.
He's probably getting a 2-years-with-an-option deal, which brings him to retiring age. Even if his career has disappointed, he's made good money so, as long as he's been reasonably prudent with it, his only problem in 2025 will be what to do with his time. I'd love him to have 2-3 good seasons in MLS and maybe win a piece of tin or two, but I doubt he'll ever trouble the MNT again.

It sounds like Wood and Hamburg have agreed to terminate his contract immediately so that he can join RSL: Der HSV löst den Vertrag mit Angreifer Bobby Wood abrupt auf. Sein gescheitertes Engagement im Volkspark gilt als sinnbildlich für den Niedergang des Traditionsklubs. Von @Thomas_Huerner https://t.co/ekL2GAAVW5— SZ Sport (@SZ_Sport) April 13, 2021
The second sentence: “his failed stint/engagement in the Volkspark is considered to be symbolic of the decline of the traditional club.” It’s the tease of the article that blames Wood for all of Hamburg’s problems. https://www.sueddeutsche.de/sport/bobby-wood-hsv-vertrag-1.5263262 That’s some powerful stuff from Bobby. Bravo, Americans have arrived on the international soccer stage. And the direct deposit still hit every month.
Still pretty astonishing after 1 season at Hamburg, his wages got doubled. I'm sure Bobby won't be complaining.
Putting this in the official record for posterity's sake. Bobby played tonight for RSL's USL affiliate, Real Monarchs (I think after being injured for a while) and was replaced by a 13 year-old. 13-year-old Axel Kei becomes the youngest player ever to appear in a professional American sports league 🤯He made his professional debut for Real Monarchs in the USL Championship tonight, coming on during 61st min for Bobby Wood. pic.twitter.com/RESKWIYTXj— Anthony (@AnthonyKyaw) October 9, 2021
This kid was born in the Ivery Coast (Africa). A few things have to fall in line for him to play for us.
Well he's already been called up for the Youth National Training Camp https://ourcitysc.com/3-boys-called-up-ynt-2019/ I don't know but do you have to be eligible to play for the US to get called up for that? ......knock on wood.... (sorry just trying to keep it relevant to this threat )
No. Plenty of players have been called into camp who didn't have citizenship (some were close; some were unlikely to ever get it as a youth).
He's 6'1" and about 170 lbs. at 13. Guy's gonna be like 6'6" and huge by the time he's done growing. PS: Looks like when Kei was with the LAG academy has was listed as being born in 2005 so he'd be 15-16 already: 1446897781562478597 is not a valid tweet id
You never know. At 13, I was 5’9” and close to 150 lbs and could damn near grow a full beard. I was the “big kid”. Everyone thought I was going to be well over 6’0” and 200 lbs. At 39, I am 5’10” and 175. So there you go. I just hit puberty really early and hit a massive growth spurt between 6th and 7th grade. Not so much since then
Same here. My dad thought I was gonna be a monster . . . but I just stopped growing. 6 foot 180 in 8th grade. 6 foot 185 at 39. Early bloomer.
So is this kid 13 or 15? Will he be 6'6 or 6' 180? How much weight will he gain by 39? Is he actually Freddie Adu? I'm very confused.
