I'm really suprised Lewis-Potter hasn't been called up to any age group. 13 goals in League One is really not to be sniffed at.
People need to bare in mind that the U20s barely played a game from 2020-now, especially for certain age groups. There have been a lot less caps to go around, let this cycle play out for a while
The FA have surprisingly gone to the effort of streaming the match via YouTube. We'll be bringing you live #U21EURO qualifying action tonight, as our #YoungLions take on Andorra!— England (@England) October 11, 2021

Not quite sure how someone who regularly plays for the French champions and plays Champions league can’t get a start in a game like this is quite puzzling but then again that’s just the norm these days being an England fan and being puzzled with selections, especially at U21 level. Good to see Green get a start though.
I can sort of understand not starting Gomes with it being his first call up. I wouldn’t do it personally but I can understand wanting the player to train with the squad primarily for the first meet up. At best getting time off the bench. Brewster starting again though? Or Curtis Jones not starting?
I thought Jones was injured? Yeah Brewster starting was my other gripe to be honest, think I would have rather seen Balogun starting as the striker.
Yeah but I think also there’s a big overkill with the three midfielders in the middle who do little creatively in the centre. Might as well just use Gallagher as box to box and substitute Doyle and Garner for Jones and Gomes.
Yeah, we’ve not really got the midfield balance right in either game. TBF to Andorra the past few games we have played against them they have given us a good test. Certainly better drilled defensively than many U21 qualifying teams.
Phew! Failing to win here, following the draw in Slovenia, would've really complicated qualification. Should've known it'd be difficult given the 3-3 game was only 12 months ago. Glad Carsley got his subs right, not sure they'd have got the result without Curtis Jones.
Well, after going down to 10 men I guess you just take the points and move on but my god Andorra are a horrible side to play against at U21 level but made difficult by ourselves and selections. I know they have given us a hard time before for some reason but we have to get that midfield balance right with more creativity than grafters when playing against a parked bus who just want to keep the score to a minimum. Ref had a shocker for the Brewster red also but we played much better when Jones and Gomes came on.
Not impressed at all with Carsley, his starting 11 lack creativity, the results have been suspect too
Against these types of side you need more creative players. Why Gomes didn't start I cannot understand. I go on about Brewster a lot but I can't understand why we're not trying something else. He's not scored a league goal for two seasons and his record for England u21 is abysmal. 1 penalty goal in 15 appearances! Surely one of the other forwards deserves a chance.
I always look forward to them but I honestly can't remember the last time I was entertained watching the U21s. Maybe that match a few years back when Ravel Morrison and Zaha played(and almost got into a fight on the pitch lol). I think the likes of Garner and Gallagher are plenty creative but creativity in general has difficulty being shown in the U21 shirt. That and Andorra play with a 100% focus on defence which represents difficulty. It was always going to difficult for them to maintain their defensive shape when you add fresh legs to the pitch. I'd be really open to experimenting with Gomes as a false 9 - at least until another striking option appears.
Wouldn’t say Gallagher and garner are very creative. Gallagher has a good eye for goal and garner a decent passing range. Gomes Jones ESR Palmer are the most creative at disposal
Yeah, you have to wonder how long they will persist with a striker that can’t get a kick for a Championship team and clearly lacking in confidence and more to the point, a shadow of the player he was from his U17 days. Like what someone else pointed out, he’s a million miles away to have the potential to be a senior International player so they really should look at either other options like Balogun or playing a false 9 like Smith-Rowe who I think could do a good job.
In the last bunch we arguably stuck with Nketiah for too long as well - at the expense of freezing out more promising players like Brereton at the time. At least Nketiah was getting us goals though. I'm not sure what Brewster is offering us at the moment which sounds very harsh to say.
Its difficult in the case of Nketiah. His goal scoring record at youth level was incredible. You just don’t know if youth players will adapt to senior football. Unfortunately Nketiah has struggled to make the step up so far.
Like Thomas not even on the bench for Leicester today. Is he injured otherwise a bit worrying for him going forward.
