Chelsea's Billy Gilmour has been loaned to Norwich City fort the upcoming season: Official: Billy Gilmour joins Norwich City on loan for the season - We Ain't Got No History (sbnation.com) And why is this Spurs news? Because it surely means that Oliver Skipp will be back with us for '21-22, yes? Well, maybe not, as Naaarch are saying they'd like to keep him on loan for another season, as well. But them bringing in Gilmour suggests that they're definitely not banking on it.
If Oliver Skipp cannot get into our midfield, then it will mean we have actually brought in some really good mids (highly unlikely with You-Know-Who running the ship), or that the club is well and truly run by idiots.
Not the Euros, but Davinson Sanchez missed a penalty in the shootout that saw Colombia defeated by Argentina in the Copa America semi-finals. I cannot picture Davinson Sanchez doing much of anything well on a football pitch, but taking penalties? Really?
Caught the second half of the Cops America final, long enough to see Lo Celso send Neymar flying from a sliding tackle, before he was substituted. The 2 of them seemed to be buddies after the game though. Nice to see Messi (and GLC) win something for his country, finally.
I start work today at 3pm. Won't see the final. Not much pleased (though when it's over, I'll probably be glad to have missed Italy's victory). COYTL, or something.
I watched every Argentina game just to see Gio. He looked like one of their best players in the tournament. Not great in defense at times but he made some nice passes to setup teammates and had some trick dribbles in midfield that came off well.
Skipp is back training with the first team, having recovered from his foot surgery quicker than projected.
The first signing of the Paratici era? And it is a goalkeeper, where we definitely need to improve with Lloris' decline. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...anta-keeper-pierluigi-gollini-on-initial-loan
We are delighted to announce Michael Dawson as a new Club Ambassador following his decision to retire from playing! 🙌— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) August 6, 2021 Just two Club Ambassadors enjoying a visit to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium! 🤩 pic.twitter.com/Q1dBUj0fpb— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) August 6, 2021 Together again. 🥰 pic.twitter.com/gathhfHpCg— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) August 6, 2021 @pookspur
Toby and Verts may have surpassed these two in effectiveness as a center half pairing ... but no duo will surpass these two in my heart. Both rate 10/10 in Spurs man-love. Without question the greatest Spurs ambassador duo ever.
I didn't realize he'd retired. He went back to Forest (from whom we purchased him in '05) a few years back and saw his playing time decrease over the last few seasons - to the point that he hardly played at all during 20-21. For a long time last year, I was thinking he was injured, as he wasn't even making the bench, but at some point I realized he just wasn't being selected. Going into the summer, it was pretty clear he was done at Forest, and I remember wondering if he would hang 'em up, or try to latch on with another club. I guess I hadn't thought about it since. Shame on me!
No kidding? It turns out he was out of contract at Forest this summer (I've just looked it up). Waiting until August to announce retiring suggests that he might have been looking to pick up with another club. If so, there clearly wasn't a match between who might want him and who he might have wanted ... but I'd be curious to know the identities of any such clubs.
Article about Spurs, can they really be contenders this season? The basic argument matches our observations: we've been fortunate that opponents have not converted the many opportunities we've given them and our offense has tremendous unrealized potential. Based on current performance, not a contender. Based on the potentials and the history of Nuno, we could become the team to beat. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/tottenham-is-perfect-so-far-but-is-it-really-a-contender/
Has Jimmy Greaves' death even been mentioned on these boards yet? On the chance one might not have known, Spurs legendary forward Jimmy Greaves passed away a couple days ago. He'd been in poor health for a few years, now. I won't bang on about his accomplishments, beyond stating the obvious - that he was Spurs' greatest ever goal scorer (266 goals in 279 games - incredible), and among the 4 or 5 best Tottenham players ever. 'Legend' gets tossed around all too easily (from me, especially), but this one is undisputable. RIP.
Harry "not as good as Greaves" Kane. [emoji849] Since he died on the morning of the Chelsea game, some of us mentioned it there.
Toby interviewed on his time at Spurs; https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/fo...alderweireld-exclusive-interview-b957988.html
We have gone from a back 4 of Walker-Alderweireld-Vertonghen-Rose (which only conceded 26 goals in 2016-17) to Tanganga-Sanchez-Dier-Reguilón (which has shipped 9 in the last 3 games).
I'm not even remotely surprised that the Amazon documentary pops up in a 'what went wrong' conversation about Poch's squad. I seethed when I heard that it had been sanctioned, and knew (ok, I didn't know, but I deeply suspected) that Poch (and presumably most players) couldn't have wanted the intrusion. It ranks among the handful of Levy decisions that I simply cannot come to terms with. ... I'm getting pissed off again just thinking about it.
We didn't need no documentary to see what was wrong with that squad - you just had to turn on the telly and watch Eric Dier flounder in any position.
