Berhalter is expected to address the idea of Pulisic and Reyna being added in at his press conference at noon according to Grant Wahl. Good question. Am told that's a question for Berhalter when he meets the media at the top of the hour. https://t.co/ZY01btS3Lz— Subscribe to GrantWahl.com (@GrantWahl) September 29, 2021 I too would have liked to have seen this. I imagine also though that there are a number of MLS guys who are basically on standby as mid-window injury replacements (Dike, Zimmerman, Sands, and Ferreira).
Hearing UK, not just PL. And doubt it but wondering if that had impact on Sargent not coming given he'd only have 2 games. Not sure.
Yeah, agree. I guess GB is feeling too vulnerable right now to try someone new. I think he is playing better than most outside backs who were called in.
i agree, i also said konrad would ease a lot of worry. i just think we are 1 or 2 players away from a "safe" roster, not 6 or 7.
What a weird-ass response from Wahl; he's one of like six soccer media guys and he's acting like "sources told him" someone is gonna ask the coach that? Isn't he the guy that should be asking questions? Unless his source is him looking at himself in the mirror maybe he ought to do his job and be more than a PR stenographer.
I think he's saying his source didn't want to give him an answer, but that Berhalter may address it shortly. Seems better than reporting on an answer he doesn't have yet? I don't think it's a weird as you do, though Wahl could have just said nothing until he got an answer, I guess.
Look, I understand the importance of experience in these qualifiers and get why people would be reluctant to bring in a teenager who's never played for the team before, but sometimes needs must. Right now we've got a kid (Scally) playing fairly well week in and week out for a decent club in a top 4 league. Couple that with the fact that he can play a position where, based on the roster that just came out, we're almost certainly going to be giving meaningful minutes to one of the worst RB's in the Turkish League (not even a top 15 league in Europe) who's been in terrible form for both club and country, and I think Gregg really should have thought outside the box here.
But Acosta is better at FKs than Lletget, so if those two are on the field, I'm fine with Acosta. If Busio is on the field, however...
Panama is still on the UK's red list. Quarantine required upon return. Presumably Fulham would have refused to release them without assurances that they wouldn't travel for that match.
There's no way that's true. He's looked like a solid version of himself for Galatasaray the last couple of games I've seen, too. Plus, the Turkish league insanity is better preparation for a road game in Panama than most of what these other guys do for their clubs. Yes, I think Dest should start, and Scally may overtake him soon if not already, plus we have other depth, but Yedlin as the #2 RB is not a problem in the context of our talent.
Scally might better than the backups on the roster, but he won't be starting over Dest and Robinson. So if the plan is to barely him, maybe it's worth keeping him at his club.
Not really, considering you have a world class in Moore . I didn't realized that BL is an inferior league to Secunda.
I read this differently. My guess is Wahl asked his source at USSF and they said if you want to know you should ask Berhalter at the press conference. "That's a question for X" means "go ask X about it" not "someone is going to ask X about it."
If anything, the travel restriction kinda helps with the 27-man roster issue, assuming we don't get a bunch of injuries in the first game.
I've seen bits and pieces of all his matches this season and think he's looked very poor filling in for their regular RB. And it's not just my opinion, the various rating systems also rate him as one of the worst performing RB's in Turkey.
Gregg Berhalter on potential bringing in Christian Pulisic and Gio Reyna later in the window: “I wouldn’t rule them completely out. It is unlikely. … I’d describe the situation as day to day.”#USMNT— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) September 29, 2021 So I take this as a no in terms of them being included.
Roger Gonzalez said a couple days ago Gio could be added if recovery is going well. Couple thoughts on roster. 1)I would have brought Scally over Moore. 2) not a fan of bringing Ream but I wonder if he is there for leadership purposes (I do not have a high opinion of Brooks as a leader)) 3) I wonder if Musah may get minutes on the wing as I believe he plays there quite a bit for Valencia. 4) based on the roster I think best lineup is a 3 5 2 5) If we go with a 4 3 3 I hope one game we try a combo of Busio/Musah/De la Torre as 8s. 6) Not a fan or Zardes or Arriola but cannot deny when they play we get more opportunities 7)Tough luck for Sargent and Pefok but the goals aren't there for Sargent and Pefok on the Nats tends to be invisible so far and not good in build up
Gregg Berhalter on Julian Araujo, who has previously rejected call-ups as he decides between the USMNT and Mexico:"That’s information (Julian) is going to share with the group, it’s not for me to share.”— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) September 29, 2021 That's what all indications are pointing to.
as for the fa restriction- you have to think berhalter definitely knows, and seeing as hed have to add another gk i dont think anyones going to be held out. or gregg is blindingly stupid.
Notes: - Berhalter will use almost everyone of these guys…and not just for cameos at the end of games. He has shown that he likes to rotate and keep players fresh for their particular role, but has a few workhorses who he counts on to be fit over the whole window. Probably the best way to look at his starting 11’s is to look at who his workhorses are. - Good to see Moore, Richards, Busio, Luca DLT, Musah, Weah, and Hoppe get their first tastes of World Cup Qualifying. This is the thunderdome and you never know how people will adapt and react. It will be interesting to see Luca DLT because he has had such a presence in US Youth teams for so long and now he gets the qualifying experience as a senior player. Moore, Weah, Luca, and Busio have all been US Youth stalwarts. - Excited about Pepi. Pepi may be our best player in a couple of years. He certainly was our best player in Honduras. Vamos
