I mean it’s not good when there’s rumors of unhappiness in dressing room….. not losing may save him today but man he’s on thin ice and it sucks
It would probably need to get really bad for him to lose his job before the winter break. But, not the best start for him so far.
Another Derek Rae Twitter thread: 1/ An attempt at balance in the Jesse Marsch debate. Is he under pressure in Leipzig? Absolutely. Results & uneven performances have made that so. 4 pts out of 15 is unacceptable given how the club views itself. Can it be turned around? Yes, but time is of the essence. jn finished 3rd and then 2nd. his predecessor also finished 3rd so not sure about the improvement. they also finished 2nd before so again not sure about the improvement. also the major sale before nagelsmanns finals season was werner, who had shown to be a complete system forward. they sold their two best center backs and i don’t care if konate was hurt a lot. if he’s healthy now he helps. and sabitzer was the soul of the team. acting like this is a natural progression from a player perspective and talking succession plans is completely bogus.
Yea, moving both cb's instead of just 1, hurt the team a lot for defensive stability. They could have staggered the sales, but instead wanted to get paid now. That meant sacrificing team results in the interim, which coincides w/ Marsch's hire. Also, the addition of Andre Silva was not made with Jesse or frankly RB's own philosophy of high octane fb in mind. Silva's in the bottom 20% of pressures at his position. Meanwhile, Sorloth was an elite pressure guy (top 6%) and was starting to develop more as a finisher, but they cast him off. Poulsen would be a fitting stand-in. He's actually as good at pressuring a d as it gets (top 1%). His problem has been his underwhelming finishing. But he still works much better from a cost-benefit standpoint in Jesse's and RB's system. Would Jesse have the leeway to irk the board by using their recent $25m addition as a super-sub? I think he's got to take the risk at this point, because if results keep going in this direction for a while longer, they'll fire him for that anyhow.
Jesse switched the point of their press from Andre Silva to Youssef Poulsen. Now he needs to stick with this change at midweek. It may save his job. Though he still has to worry about those cb's when they're tested more. Klosterman, Orban, and Gvardiol is an "interesting" back 3. Edit: Adams also missed the game and he's been poor this season. That could have also been a factor.
Nah, they'll easily bounce back in this group... all they have to do is get 6 points against their next opponents who are.. let's see (looks it up)... um, PSG.. erm, nevermind....
He has to win his next three in the league. And his cup match. They won’t beat psg… if he doesn’t do that, He has to be sacked. He isnt working. Tbh, watching Salzburg this year compared to his team is much easier on the eyes and less frantic. He has to be able to play possession soccer.
Home wins against Bochum and Furth should be expected. PSG away may be alot to ask, but they should at least be competitive. The key game imo is away to Freiburg. That's the type of game for the team to make an actual statement. If they lose this one, the seat remains hot.
Another Derek Rae thread: As I mentioned on here recently, Jesse Marsch would eventually have to change public tone. Even after RBL defeats he was full of what German media call “American positivity” but conceded last night’s 1st half was bad & bemoaned that the match plan wasn’t always being followed.— Derek Rae (@RaeComm) September 29, 2021
this team gave up more goals than it scored in last seasons champions league group stage and now lost its best defender and midfielder.
So he has a few more matches to save his career? Me thinks folks are being way too dire. I'm sure he'd be given til November if he continues this route but things will turn around.
