Of course, president Cuomo was once governor of New York! By Fredo’s brother do you mean Michael or Sonny?
Well, he was on that ticket-- 76-- and was in the upper brackets for quite a few cycles earlier. Other Governors who attempted the final step include Al Smith, William Seward and Dewitt Clinton, unsuccessful, and Theodore Roosevelt who succeeded once and fell short once, and those are just off the top of my head--I did not look at any lists. The Governorship of New York has always been and likely always will be a stepping stone in the White House' direction.
For those interested, Sarah Longwell of Republican Voters Against Trump (now Republican Accountability Project), has a new podcast featuring focus group discussions with actual republicans, many of whom voted Trump in '16 but then voted for Biden in '20. It's quite fascinating Even Dan Pfeiffer gave RVAT a lot of credit in '20 for their user created content ads, featuring former Trump voters on why they weren't voting for him in '20 In any event, what i took out of it so far is these swing voters exist, and COVID really helped solidify their feeling that Trump had failed the country. It is interesting how man of them seemed to believe in his outsider business man credentials, but don't like his personality, nastiness and lack of focus - seems clear his base only strategy missed a potentially easy layup in '20 if he had just done populist Corona policy https://www.thebulwark.com/author/sarah-longwell/
We make pizza once a week since years (i worked in a pizza place as a student) This year we graduated to our own woodfired pizza oven. My favs are Pizza Napoli, Pizza Diavolo and Chilli Prawn But actually i got into flat bread more now - e.g olives and a bit of anchovy
For those interested, Sarah Longwell is a former lobbyist, PR Flack, and now "publisher" of The Bulwark, NeoCon Bill Kristol's RINO brainchild after The Weekly Standard cratered because no one cared any more about Billy's red outside, blue inside mentality and the money dried up. She is so deep in the deep state, she needs to move about in a submersible. She epitomizes the term "Washington Creature."
And this from a guy who started a thread based UPON Twitter's "interesting" take on Joe Biden. One day you will grasp your inherent contradictions. Apparently, today is not the day.
You can make any number of criticisms of Longwell and Kristol but calling them part of the deep state is laughable. The whole point is they are ex-communicated from government. They are not part of the Dem establishment, nor are they any longer welcome in the GOP tent. Their organisation is focussed on what might be called blue dog republicans - voters without a clear home in either party
And of course not only Governorship of New York, but political office in New York generally. See the chardonnay addled Dowager Empress of Chappaqua.
I dunno--are Sarah and her ilk on the outside looking in? I'll concede you may be right about that. And if you are, good. But exile for this crew is too good a fate. I know all you guys immediately become nauseous when the Bad Mean Tweeting Orange Man is mentioned, but one of his undeniable skills was getting a certain swath of the Republican party and the "conservative" movement to come out of the muck like the platypus-like creatures that they are. That said, the submersible is likely in good working order if and when the time comes.
I started a thread specifically to quarantine interesting or funny tweets in. How is that contradictory?
Mr. Twitter lockdown. Maybe you SHOULD be a moderator, since you pretend to be one. Although that may be too taxing a role, considering you are also the BS Reference Librarian. Wouldn't want you to strain the brain. Meanwhile, somebody somewhere --- not sure who -- told me about this search function thingy and I took a look to see who's posting Twitter items to reflect a world view. Found this one in, oh, I dunno, about two seconds. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/i...den-presidency.2113436/page-152#post-39956046 One day, you WILL grasp your own contradictions. Once again, alas, apparently today is not that day.
Do you ever engage ideas rather than people? It’s not just me. It’s JohnR. It’s VP Harris. It’s President Biden. It’s Hillary Clinton. It’s even Donald Trump. You talk about people rather than policy or actions. What are you trying to accomplish here?
Okay, then, answer my simple question, please. As a reminder: Q: Will you admit that Biden won the election (not just the Electoral College)? A: Yes or No. (I changed from "can" to "will")
Interesting Longwell's focus groups seem to strongly believe Biden has dementia at some level and will not vote for him in 2024. I find this fascinating doublethink given Trump's drunken insane ramblings but it is also true that Biden would turn 82 right after the '24 election Seems voters do what a younger candidate
