This might be true, and perhaps in that context it works well to just play in GYE for this match. Bolivia did tie in Guayauil en route to the 94 WC, but that was a vastly more experienced and talented side.

So it's pretty much confirmed that Ecuador will play against Bolivia in Guayaquil. I think it's a good idea for this match. A lot of the Bolivian players are used to playing in high altitude. The majority of our players are not. Not anymore at least. Against Paraguay it was only Galindez and Gaibor. Against Chile it was Galindez, Hurtado, and Sornoza. On paper it makes sense to play Bolivia in Guayaquil. Moving forward I think the national team should play in Quito. Fossati proposed an interesting idea and it makes sense. He said the team should train in Guayaquil and fly to Quito the day of the game. I'm no expert but a lot of people say that the altitude starts hitting you more as the days pass. Think about the schedule. Most guys will fly in on Sunday or Monday and they'll play a game that Thursday. They're in Quito for 3 or 4 days and it's simply not enough time to get used to the altitude.

Any of you reckon Barcelona will do good tomorrow?

I got a feeling we are just going to defend

It's an away match against a truly stacked squad, so the odds of success are not stacked in their favor. Flamengo is relentless. They'd be wise to size up the opponent and avoid giving up the midfield. I think we'll see a limited attack, but there's a chance to see 1-2 real BSC goalscoring opportunities. BSC does show effectiveness in front of the net, so even going down by a minimal scoreline makes for a tough return match in GYE.

They had a brilliant start to the game, but omg...once Flamengo scored that first goal, you knew it was going downhill. W/ a red card as well, this isn't boding well and there's still 30 mins left to play.

They had a great keeper. I feel like we still got a chance to beat them.

We have a good chance. That Molina expulsion will force Bustos to start Carcelen who did really well to stop their attacks.

Despite the loss, the boys did great playing away from home and being down 1 man.

Hopefully this lights a fire in them when they play in Guayaquil.

Barcelona's 2 goal deficit can be overcome. According to stats, they have never been able to overcome a 2 goal deficit in a return leg, but maybe it's time for history to not repeat itself. Good luck in the next game. Ecuador would do well to see another Ecua team represent in the finals....and possibly win.

I don’t think we will overcome that stat. It’s nice to think otherwise but IMO it’s over for us.

If it wasnt for Diego Alves Flmengo would have been screwed. Flamengo beat us in individual performances but not play better than us as a team. The odds are against us but it would be incredible to see us beat those odds.

Jhegson Mendez returned from injury. He and Moises in the middle is the best midfield duo. No more Gaibor. Gruezo should start on the bench and come on only in specific circumstances.

I saw up to about the first gol and have to say that luck also plays big factor here.

We had our chances but luck wasn’t on our side.

That's definitely true. Barcelona tried up until the very end to score...even if it was only going to be an honor goal at that point, they never let up, and the crowd definitely did their part to praise the squad for their effort. Although it's a bit odd to see ole's going for a side that's losing when they start stringing passes together, it's the right type of positive culture and reinforcement to a club that really tried. Flamengo on the other hand is just on another level...I don't think we ever really saw them play their "best" football for 180 minutes, and that to me is also pretty scary- the team is just THAT good. Ya'll played against the team that will likely be the CL winners this year, and if the goal scoring luck was on your side, I think it would have shell shocked Flamengo into a much different game plan. Barcelona has been a semifinalist twice in the last 4-5 years, which is a testament to the product they're putting out.

The Ecuadorian league, as a whole, is a very competitive product, and lots of our teams, I hope, will be even more competitive as fans and sponsorships start activating now that attendees can buy tickets to attend games and TV deals will start paying out again.

Flamengo’s GK is definitely class. That guy is on another level. I think Copa Libertadores cupos should be more even between countries, I feel like our teams are performing on a higher level than other countries.

now on to suffer for eliminatorias again…

In other news, Hincapié scored a gol today against Celtic. I think it was an auto gol though.

The new call up list was released. Gaibor gets a call up but Alcivar doesn't? Jose Angulo gets called up even though he's only started one game the last couple of months?

Its a big shame because Alcivar has been deserving for a while.

In other words, hopefully Sarmiento works out cause we desperately need a LW to mirror Plata.

Yeah, ******** that. Man, we should have a base of players by now. I feel like he calls up new people every convocatoria who hasn’t proven why they should be called up.

Alfaro experiments way too much and it looks ridiculous now that we're more than halfway through the qualifiers
