The first round of the Austrian Cup has been completed over the course of the last two weeks. Not many upsets of clubs in the top divisions with the exception of Altach (Bundesliga), Horn (2. Liga), and Dornbirn (2. Liga). The Austrian Cup is down to 16 teams. Two more Bundesliga clubs exited in the Round of 32. Admira Mödling lost in extra time to Rapid Wien in the only matchup of two top-division teams. Austria Wien lost in PKs at Kapfenberg of the 2. Liga. The remaining clubs are all from the 2. Liga with the exception of Weiz from the Regionalliga Mitte, which knocked out Austria Lustenau, the current leaders of the 2. Liga. Round of 32 Admira Mödling 1 - 2 Rapid Wien LASK 3 - 0 Stripfing Grazer AK 2 - 4 Tirol Salzburg 8 - 0 Kalsdorf Bregenz 0 - 7 Lafnitz St. Johann 1 - 2 Austria Klagenfurt Hohenems 0 - 4 Sturm Graz Vorwärts Steyr 1 - 3 Ried Siegendorf 1 - 6 Wolfsberger AC Amstetten 1 - 0 Wacker Innsbruck BW Linz 4 - 0 Team Wiener Linien Weiz 1 - 0 Austria Lustenau Treibach 1 - 5 Floridsdorfer AC Union Gurten 0 - 1 Hartberg Kapfenberger SV* 1 - 1 Austria Wien Schwaz 2 - 3 St. Pölten
Not much unexpected this round. Seven Bundesliga teams remain in the competition. The only second-division side to advance, Floridsdorf, did so against a fellow mid-table 2. Liga club. After advancing on penalties last round, Kapfenberg was eliminated in the same fashion. Round of 16 BW Linz 2 - 3 Hartberg Amstetten 0 - 3 Rapid Wien LASK 2 - 1 Tirol St. Pölten 0 - 3 Salzburg Floridsdorfer AC* 0 - 0 Kapfenberger SV Sturm Graz 1 - 2 Ried Weiz 1 - 4 Austria Klagenfurt Lafnitz 3 - 5 Wolfsberger AC
The quarterfinals saw the last lower-division side Floridsdorf eliminated, albeit after extra time. The remaining four clubs are all in the top 8 of the Bundesliga. Quarterfinals Salzburg 3 - 1 LASK Rapid Wien 1 - 2 Hartberg Ried 2 - 0 Austria Klagenfurt Wolfsberger AC 4 - 2 Floridsdorf
Salzburg almost saw their three-year cup streak come to an end. Down almost the entire match at Wolfsberg, Salzburg needed a tying goal with 15 minutes remaining to send it to extra time and then PKs where they prevailed 5-4. Will now face Ried in the final on May 1 in Klagenfurt. Semifinals Ried 2 - 1 Hartberg Wolfsberger AC 1 - 1* Salzburg
Congrats to Salzburg for winning a fourth-straight cup final by multiple goals without conceding. That’s now 9 out of the last 11 Austrian Cup titles to Salzburg! Final Salzburg 3 - 0 Ried
