It's nice to have a normal (so to speak) season again. So being, I can't get along without this -- http://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/search/label/2021
Dan's recent stuff on #1 RPI UNH interesting. Start with the premise that was a Billy Packer fav' that you can't be rated #1 unless you've played a top 20 team. I'm not sure either Mich or Prov was in the top 25 when UNH defeated them? http://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/2021/07/new-hampshire.html Also #2 OSS. From America East?
RPI is a mathematical formula. The NSCA coaches poll has UNH #9 https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-men/d1/united-soccer-coaches
The RPI is pretty statistically insignificant until you have about 15 games under your belt.. but if your league wins early in non-conference games you then you build on that in the conference... Just the reverse is true if the league struggles out of conference.
It would appear that even with a win over a top 20 opponent, UNCG (92) will still be nowhere near an at-large bid if they do not win the Southern Conference Tournament (the SoCon is currently the lowest ranked conference), as their RPI will continue to take big hits with games against VMI (208), Furman (206), Wofford (194) and Mercer (184). It would appear UNCG has no real other opportunities to strengthen its' resume with games against Belmont (41) and Coastal Carolina (68) left being the toughest, and ETSU (91) right there near the Spartans. Interesting.
It looks likely that UNH,UK,SL will go unbeaten (a few draws each). UWashington though now 12-0 I don't think will make it for similar reasons Georgetown didn't. No matter how good you are It's very tough to go through a top league with zero defeats. UWash still has two with OSU/others.
I think it's a reflection of the shrinking significance of college soccer on the upper echelons of American soccer combined with college soccer's inability/refusal to make itself more relevant in the sporting landscape.
What in the world is going on with the RPI page? It is contently has errors and is not working properly last few days. GauchoDan needs to explain what is going on as this is the only reliable RPI page on the internet and many of us rely on it. The NCAA website updating the thing once a week does not cut it. Very disappointing. I get that technology issues is beyond his control, but he should at least put something apologizing for the issue and what is going on with an estimated time for a fix. Many fans and reporters rely on it for the all important info of the RPI for articles and to just let the site be dysfunctional with no explanation makes me not think GauchoDan is taking it very seriously and I am beyond dissapointed. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.
Feel free to create your own real-time database. Make sure you update and maintain it several times a day.
I hope you are being sarcastic. Gaucho Dan's effort is one of the greatest labors of love in college soccer. A game-changer for those that follow college soccer since his arrival and his website have come on the scene.
Dan has Stanford #31` 6-6-5,2-4-3 9pts PAC and VaTech #20 10-4-3,3-4-1 10 pts ACC as interesting NCAA picks from the power conferences. A-10 with 2 teams and first out: don't see that . Creighton really turned BE sea. around.
