Right now, James would mess up a ham sandwich and blame it on his calf muscle and 47 million of his Instagram followers would agree with him

Yea but move to a competitive league, not to fuxking Qatar. Im also sure he would’ve had options since I doubt they actually paid a transfer fee. We already know Porto were highly interested. Why didn’t he push for a move there or any decent team?

Based on the messaging attributed to Conceicao, he wasn't a priority for Porto. Importantly, Everton seems to be as much focused on FFP as James was to minutes here - they needed someone to cover atleast 50% of James' wages and it doesn't seem Porto was up for it - which makes sense as wages in Portugal are far lower than the BPL. (Remember James' wages aren't even the highest on Everton!)

James didn't want to take a pay cut to get the minutes. Now he is going to have to deal with the indignity to get minutes because at 7M euro his wages are the same - despite the narrative, Al Rayyan are simply paying his wages due with his Everton deal not giving him a raise.

He did this to play and get away from Benitez, the argument that he did this because of a lack of passion for futbol doesn't make sense to me - were that the case he could have stayed at Everton and just not played and blamed Benitez. Instead he is knowingly taking the crap of media and fans all over the world and the hit to pride of playing in the least competitive league he will have seen since he was 16 for the same money...

I just hope it works and he stays healthy and we see the benefit on the NT. Otherwise, he has taken a huge black eye to his career for nothing.

I am going to imitate Doog's attitude and say he probably will get injured in his first game in Qatar an not play again until March or something.

This is what I hope to see. James needs to understand that his only shot at redemption is in yellow now.

He needs to be full time NT and understand that health and continuity in Qatar is how he gets there the next nine months. If we qualify for the WC (with him contributing) and he plays enough games this season he will get plenty of opps next summer.

    With his luck... Totally possible.

Of course, they say the famous golfer Bobby Jones said that all sports is luck, but the hardest you work the luckier you get... Couldn't be more true about James...

This is good to see, there was better options but he will be playing and will be able to prioritize the NT, if we have James and Quintero they can split time and we'll be in a great spot imo with the squad we have. I want Rueda to succeed, think he's made mistakes but I do think he's a good tactician overall and want to see what he can do with the full arsenal and if he can get the ego's in check.

I mean if he really convinced James to move to freaking Qatar to get PT by benching him from the NT, Rueda deserves credit as the most Machiavellian NT coach ever!

(Of course, if he'd had a strong Copa maybe he could have gotten a loan deal in Europe, but we'll never know)

He's lost some capitol with the performances but he's still in the zone of respectability, if it wasn't for Luis Diaz the guy would be calling up El Pibe and Asprilla for help at this point. If he has James and Quintero fit and firing the team will look a lot better, without them there isn't the connection between midfield and attack to pull the strings.
