I know what you're thinking. This must be the greatest nickname after Edson Bubble's B**** Drogba. Let me explain. Ricardo = Rick Pepi is close to Pepino which means cucumber Pickles are cucumbers in brine. Therefore Ricardo Pepi = Pickle Rick
Really good article, I just found it this afternoon too. Very sweet of them to have the Dad talk so much. It was a touching article.
Great article. It provided an interesting look into some of the cultural forces that were at play in Pepi's selection.
Augsburg's Pepi announcement reminded me of this thread. They were literally tweeting out trains this morning before the announcement. And they've included a little train in all of their tweets about Pepi. Its funny because that nickname really did originate from the fans. 🚂— FC Augsburg (@FCA_World) January 3, 2022
If he's a train, he's a hype train...if I think of relative analogs to Pepi, like Pippo or Raul or Wondolowski...no one has ever called any of those guys trains... Glad I have another Bundisliga team to watch though
I am of the opinion that he has really good tools and instincts for an under 20, probably better than any of our youngsters except Reyna. He also has a tactical understanding of what strikers can do to gain scoring advantages that seems beyond his years. OTOH, he is slightly built and moving far (geographically and culturally) from his comfort zone. So how he reacts to new kinds of adversity remains to be seen. I hope he can stay positive and keep working, and that he has a support system that can help him navigate all of that.

I remember and found it an odd fit then. He's more of a hang glider than a train. If any of our forwards were a train, it would be Dike
