Right. And now they are offering the same deal as the men and the women are crying foul. So why is that ? I agree with the concept that they've been "overpaying the men" , so now there is a chance to make them equal but possibly involves having the men decrease their share.
Non-profits aren't compelled to revenue share. You're confusing them with cooperatives. In the case of USSF a lot of the income from the NTs is spent on grass roots development. Anyway, if the women are paid the same $ per game as the men they would earn a lot more than the men as they play something like 50% more games. Which is fair enough. Plus given the women's pool of players is smaller and they win more games, so individual women may earn more than the men.
Why is this still a thing? We all saw the women humiliate themselves on this issue. Why are the bitter clingers still clinging on like there is something left for them in this?
$60 million is a lot of money. The obvious source would be the revenue from the 2026 WC. It might be cheaper to break the women off $30 mill--their half of the 'equal pay'--to go away. But would USSF then be opening themselves up to lawsuits from older generations of USWNT players?
its never going to happen and giving them half wouldn't just open ussf to more lawsuits from the past but in the future. the women would also be crazy to agree to half if ussf offered them half it would be more reason to go for all of it.
The fact that USSF is a non-profit has nothing to do with gender discrimination laws. The laws apply the same to both nonprofit and for-profit business entities alike, so I'm unsure as to why you keep repeating those points.
Due to separate CBAs w/our MNT and WNT, U.S. Soccer is required by law to distribute FIFA prize money based on those contracts with each team. It would be illegal for U.S. Soccer to redistribute its FIFA World Cup prize money in a way that doesn’t comply with those CBAs. https://t.co/L5ZhVLd6h0— U.S. Soccer Comms (@ussoccer_comms) September 22, 2021 Saying that, this is EXACTLY why we’ve asked both teams to come together to come up with a creative solution on the FIFA prize money distribution in advance of agreeing to either the Men’s or Women’s CBAs.— U.S. Soccer Comms (@ussoccer_comms) September 22, 2021 To clarify, after reviewing all of the components of the two teams’ compensation packages, not just the game bonuses in isolation, the District Court ruled that the Women’s National Team was paid more than the Men’s National Team -- both in aggregate and on a per game basis. https://t.co/fQ5jxnHtMO— U.S. Soccer Comms (@ussoccer_comms) September 22, 2021 What we do agree on is that we are spending too much time and money on litigation when we want the same thing – to keep the WNT the highest paid in the world and grow the game in the US. So let’s get in a room and not come out until we have a fair solution that works for all.— U.S. Soccer Comms (@ussoccer_comms) September 22, 2021
There's some women's logic going on here. Let's say under the new CBA, the men and women each get $5k in appearance money. The US men play about 18 matches a year, the women 27. Taking into account injuries, rest and squad rotation, let's say Cristian Pulisic plays 9 games. He makes $45k. Similarly Meghin Rapinoe plays 20 games, that's $100k. Then add win bonuses. $3k for a win, $1.5k for a draw. Pulisic plays in 5 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. That's $18k. Rapinoe plays in 16 wins, 3 draws and one loss, that's $52.5k. So in a year Pulisic makes $63k and Rapinoe makes $152.5k. This is all without tournament bonuses. How can you say that's discriminatory against women?
Where is all that money coming from if they paid the WNT the MNT world cup money even though USSF doesn't get that much money from FIFA. It would bankrupt USSF, but no one mentions its not even possible but they still claim sexism. You can't make this stuff up!
That's around $26M (3-0 group) for a tournament that pays out a total of $4M to the winner. Where is $22M coming from?
For completeness the women played 8 games and the men 1 in 2020 before the Covid shutdown and 1 each in November. In 2021 the men have 21 fixtures and the women 24. So over two Covid hit years its women are 33 and men 23.
No. The men only get a percentage of the WC prize. The prize in 2018 was $38 mil for the winner. The USMNT would have gotten around $9m for the title. In this case, around 23.5%. Nothing says that the prize must be that percentage amount. They could decrease it to an amount that they could afford.
That’s not accurate per @Beau Dure The WC prize money for the USMNT per their CBA accumulated each round. So the $9.375 mil would have been in addition to price money accumulated from previous rounds.
I don’t appreciate how the USSF is super happy to leverage the men against the women here, either. Of all three parties (USSF, USWNTPlayers and USMNTPlayers) the men are the only ones who come off somewhat genuine, if not desperately naive.
USSF should've communicated this way back in 2017 when the initial suit was filed, or right after the memo of understanding equalized the per-diems, which was the area of compensation that was unequal for no particularly good reason...
