TH leaves Montreal, Patrice Bernier takes a back seat and stays on as consultant, and Laurent Ciman comes aboard as assistant coah. The stated reason is family reasons, as it's very likely the team will have to spend most of its season in the US.
🚨 🚨🚨 BREAKING. Hearing Steve Cherundolo will be hired by @LAFC for their coaching staff and based on the rumors about Las Vegas, he will be the new head coach of their @USL affiliate. This is all pending on @USL approval of the agreement which should happen soon. #MLS #LAFC— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) February 26, 2021
Don't really get this move. FC Dallas has relieved Luchi Gonzalez of his head coaching duties.Full story: https://t.co/wEvu4TEvGB pic.twitter.com/Zdlh5EWddE— FC Dallas (@FCDallas) September 19, 2021
That team has underachieved all season. Way too much talent on that team for them to be 21/27 in MLS and 7 pts below the playoff line (with 1-2 more games played then the rest of the teams they're chasing).
FCD has regressed over the past three years and will quite likely finish with its second-worst season in club history this season. Mind you, that wouldn't quite be enough to get Luchi fired by the Hunts, but the following might make it all make sense: His contract was up at the end of this season. This was the perfect time for them to get rid of him. They were gonna be paying him until the end of this season, but this way, there's no drama in the meantime. And TBH, there was a non-zero chance that he might've gone the Freddy Juarez route if this had gone on much longer, especially since he would be a good choice for any club wanting to build their academy.
Yes. But they missed on DPs and have been playing a bunch of academy products. Isn't this the expectation when that happens?
Realistically, though, "missed on DPs and have been playing a bunch of academy products" seems to be Dallas's business model throughout its whole existence.
And when you're selling your #6 literally a week before opening day, etc. I would tend to agree. But Luchi Gonzalez had a big hand in his own demise with baffling player selections and substitutions. Plus, there is a strong aroma of "lost the lockerroom." Go look at FCD's announcement of Luchi's firing on Instagram and have a look at the parade of recently players who were not shy about hitting the "like" button. I've counted six or seven former FCD players who were traded or departed while Luchi was coach. And while sure, it's easy chalk that up to "disgruntled ex-player," some of these guys didn't leave on a bad note and/or are still close to current players. I wouldn't say that screwing up on DPs has been part of the plan, though. It's just just what's happened, but it'll happen a lot more when you're not paying anything in transfer fees. I mean, Franco Jara is costing them $2+ million a year, but he was a free transfer. There's a reason for his being a free transfer and we're seeing it right now.
FCC has spoken with Chris Albright about their GM opening: https://theathletic.com/2832671/202...-why-nycfc-signed-a-14-year-old-mls-notebook/ And some news on RSL's coaching search: Pat Noonan is currently in Utah for a second interview for #RSL’s open head coaching position, sources tell @TheAthleticSCCR. Noonan has been an assistant in Philadelphia (#DOOP) since 2018 and previously coached with Bruce Arena at LA Galaxy and the USMNT.— Jeff Rueter (@jeffrueter) September 20, 2021
Shocking. #FCCincy have relieved head coach Jaap Stam of his duties, effective immediately. 📰: https://t.co/62Yhjlkl7w pic.twitter.com/ew3yVWUA1A— FC Cincinnati (@fccincinnati) September 27, 2021
Not really shocking. It was expected, but I expected him to finish out the year. Next year, FC Cincinnati will look nothing like they did this year. About 2/3s of the players contracts end this year. I imagine very few return.
I don’t think Berding’s partners want him involved in the soccer side of the business. We’ll have to see who the GM pick is. Twellman tweeted an offer was made Friday.
If they hire a GM, no doubt he told them who he'd want as coach. It's not a bad gig despite the turnover. They have nice facilities, lots of fans, and an owner willing to spend freely. So a GM-Coach combo who are aligned should be eager to get to work. It's not like they're following a legend or have tough comps.
Twellman is reporting there is a job opening in Chicago. Wicky is out. https://t.co/XKB79Gf6Fk— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) September 30, 2021
No official announcement yet, but a couple of Fire "insiders" are reporting this as well. I guess we will see in the morning.
Yes, the rumor actually began before the game tonight. If it is true, I suspect the fact that the Fire have one of our very rare wins probably delayed the announcement until tomorrow.
