Norwich has a bigger problem than attack- central defense. The first 2 goals by Watford were inexcusable. Hanley and Kabak need to get their sh*t together. Kabak especially looks poor and slow. Hard to believe Liverpool took him last year. Surely, he's better than today. The attack will get better and score more goals, but if they keep defending like that, they will indeed be in trouble. Really basically stuff, should get sorted.
Good news. Sarge started, looked decent, no one else looks more dangerous except perhaps Pukki. bad news. Teemu is scoring just enough to stay at CF for now at least. other bad news. Norwich is really poor. Ouch. Barring some massive change, Sarge will get a good number of minutes at rw or rm, but not many goals, Norwich will go down but hopefully Sarge will show enough to get poached. this is going to be a long dry season tho.
Norwich is so terrible, today Sarge is a candidate for MOTM as per the fans: https://forum.pinkun.com/index.php?/topic/143921-sargent/
People seem to like the Altidore analogy around here, but Josh could just as easily become a Haji Wright type analogy.... who's career is now definitely is on the up: Haji's stats: (Age 19-21) 2 goals in 44 games in BL, BL2 and Holland (Age 21-23) 15 goals in 35 games in Denmark and now Turkey Superliga That's a pretty drastic statistical improvement. And when I watch Haji play, he looks like he could easily still improve in several different areas. On the other hand, Josh could wind up Jozy 2, or Haji 2 (or yet a 3rd analogy or derivation). We just don't know. Given Josh was more productive than Haji from 19-21 year old and played at a higher level most of the time.....it is not an unreasonable possibility to project that Josh's jump in performance from age 21-23 could place him squarely in the " I'm good enough to start for a middle-tier BL or Premiership side" by 23-24 years old. Josh seemed to do enough today to warrant keeping his place. For now, getting significant minutes is the biggest thing. Consistent production should + needs to follow at some point. If Josh winds up as leading scorer at Norwich, or a recognized good season performance (a good mix of goals and assists) within a poor and/or relegated team- he will definitely have top 4 league options still.
But Jozy was as/more productive in the Ered (for a top team) than Wright is in Denmark or Turkey. Why would it be better for a guy to go from BL to Denmark to Turkey to ?? rather than EPL to Ered to EPL to MLS Golden Ticket? I'd much rather Josh take the Jozy train than the Haji train in that comp.
Since it is 'trajectory', you have to go with Wright....because his trajectory still going up. Had Altidore retired after AZ, I'd agree with you (cough Sunderland cough)
And that's one big step Haji needed to make to be successful (at even higher levels). Use his big frame much better near goal and in the air. Not impossible but would be considered a late bloomer in that department. But American players in Europe tend to be late bloomers anyway so maybe it would probably be considered a normal expectation (timing)
(Correction) Norwich should have spent all that RASHICA MONEY on a central defender that is not a lamppost and can QUALIFY FOR A WORK PERMIT
A lot of praise on the Norwich chat boards for Sargent's physicality, hold-up and combination play, and his efforts to try to get on same wavelength as Pukki. Some see him already as a fan favorite for his industry, non-stop work rate and fearlessness to get stuck in. Many were disappointed when he came off. A good start to Josh's Norwich career. (which really only begins once you get a start like today) BTW- Can anyone name the Winger/sometimes Center Forward who made 71 appearances for his top 4 league club between ages 17-20 years old, scoring only 6 goals (significantly worse than Josh). And then, after transferring to an even better club in a top 4 league- one of the best offensive teams on the world in fact- could only muster 2 goals in his first 1,000+ league minutes at this top, offensive club. Then, the lightbulb went on after he turned 21 and he has been scoring a lot more goals lately. Anyone know who I'm talking about?
I was thinking maybe Timo Werner but I'm way too lazy to verify, especially when some here are guilty of the same thing a little too often when throwing up granular stats. But I'm very curious and here for the answer.
According to Jozy, when Sunderland came in with their offer AZ, including their Sporting Director (one Earnie Stewart) told him that England, and Sunderland especially, were a bad fit and urged him to wait another season and score more goals to get good teams in good leagues to come in for him. He decided to take it and the rest is history; a nightmare really. He was so, so lucky that Toronto came in for him.
Two good parents are the most important asset anyone can have in life. They showed you good stuff and now you can pay them back by passing it on. Teaching is hard, but ithe (non-financial ) rewards are out of this world. You're inadequate to the task and totally out of your depth, like every other teacher since the dawn of time so welcome to the club. Kids will never care what you know unless they know that you care and you do care. Build on that and try to make them laugh; if they're laughing they're not stressed and they learn better. If, in the unlikely event that you think I can help with anything, don't hesitate to PM me. Colonic irrigation and verbal abuse are my speciaility.
For Jozy @ Sunderland vs. Sarge @ Norwich comparison fans: Think a one touch of Jozy in any game at Sunderland and a one touch vid of Sarge in his first start yday. Maybe put it up here and people can comment.
It would be great if someone has a one touch video of Sargent. Jozy's first touch was mostly brutal. But Jozy was pretty good back to goal. He could hold guys off and flick balls. Josh pulled a Jozy and had a very nice flick to Pukki while the defender was crawling all over him. Was a decent chance close to goal.
Ferran Torres of Man City and Spanish National Team. If there were a betting line: How many goals do you think Josh would score in his first 1,000 minutes if he played at Man City? I'd take the over on 2 goals in a heart beat. But Man City were rightly patient with Ferran, let him go through his adjustment, growing pains, and then he started to deliver end of last season and has done well so far this season. Good thing Pep G. is not like many posters here....he has patience with the young strikers....brings them along....he knows what the deal is..
