my contention is theres literally no one on the planet they could bring in scarier than mbappe who is both physically and technically dominant while being in the early prime of his career outside of maybe haaland who even chelsea couldnt shake loose
It looks like Sabitzer to Bayern is finally on the verge of going through: ❗️News #Sabitzer: @Brazzo has confirmed the interest in MS via Sky. According to my info bosses are in contact. Everyone is expecting a fast decision. Sabitzer will move to @FCBayern! But: He will miss the match tomorrow due to problems with his adductors. Price: €15m! @SPORT1— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) August 28, 2021
The complete capitulation of the entire Bundesliga at the feet of Bayern is a competitive mindset I'll never be able to wrap my head around.
I agree, I cannot fathom why clubs bend over backwards to sell their best assets to a direct competitor. Other teams would have loved Upemacano or Sabitzer. I know they both probably wanted the Bayern move, but the move directly undercuts their competitiveness in the league both by subtraction of talent and direct addition of talent to their biggest competitor. Makes zero sense from a footballing standpoint. I bet Marsch is pulling his hair out as well.
And 15M is a joke. To me, having him around for another season is worth so much more than 15M. That would be like BVB selling Reus for 15M. He may not have massive transfer value, but his inherent value on the pitch is massive.
I think the problem is that if you don't sell to Bayern, the player just runs out his contract and goes to Bayern on a free anyway. It's a tough spot.
I think Aaronson would be a good Sabitzer replacement. I know they don’t play exactly the same position, but similar skill sets I think. Then Caden Clark can go on loan to Salzburg in January. if Aaronson stays on his current trajectory I think he’s at either Leipzig or a better club within 12 months. Dude can ball
Leipzig lose again, this time 4-1 at home to Bayern Munich. A somewhat understandable result; however, it's now 3 out of 4 losses for Jesse at the start of the season. Easy game next up, some team called Manchester City managed by some guy called Pep Guardiola. I don't what Leipzig's expectations were for the season but probably try not to lose 75% of the games would be the bare minimum for a team that's finished 2nd or 3rd for 4 out of the last 5 seasons in the Bundesliga. Jesse's Pep-talks better start working and results improving or Jesse may soon find himself in the hot seat pretty soon. I know it's a bit premature but a serious fear I did have is I wonder where he'd go if this job doesn't work out?
sabitzer subbing on to kill the match for bayern tells you what you need to know about marschs early season rope
That's what I'm thinking, but hope he lasts a little longer in his current job. Also, hoping it doesn't come to that for either coaches.
Another long Derek Rae Twitter thread summarizing a Kicker article: 1/ Long Kicker Q & A released in the Monday edition of the magazine with Leipzig coach Jesse Marsch (although it was conducted before the defeat v Bayern.) I’ll jot down the key points & quotes in this thread.— Derek Rae (@RaeComm) September 13, 2021
i didnt know that jesse couldve gone to rbl but chose to do the rbs route...something lost in translation there or has that been previously reported?
Two interesting things in that thread for me. The first is he said he didn't take the RB Leipzig job in 2018 (was he offered it?), because without his first having a firm grasp of the German language and some success in Europe, he would have been much more easily dismissed as an American after a run of a few bad games. He thinks he's on much firmer ground now. The second is that RB Leipzig management always recognized this would be a tough start to the season with the schedule they had, but that the next 5 Bundesliga games are crucial for Marsch (Koln, Hertha, Bochum, Freiburg, and Furth), and they're obviously looking for improvement in those games.
Criticism from the players: https://www.spox.com/de/sport/fussb...-leipzig-teaminterne-kritik-jesse-marsch.html
I wonder is Marsch is having trouble adjusting from Salzburg to Leipzig in the sense that Red Bull Salzburg were the Bayern Munich of the Austrian Bundesliga, expected to win every game and the title at a canter. It's a different story for Leipzig, where they're going to need to fight to win every match, and simply can''t go toe-to-toe against the likes of Bayern + City
So interesting to hear someone speak in conversational German with an American accent. Being someone who is sloooowly learning the language, I massively applaud his comfort with the vocabulary and cadence with his speech. He doesn't seem to really put much import on the German accent however. He sounds like an American speaking German. When I speak I sound more like a two year old German. I don't know which is better to a native, but I think I'd rather have his comfort with the vocab and grammar! Looking at his first little bit in charge, he's had a rough go from the standpoint of his competition. Once he gets into the meat of die Bundesliga, he'll start racking up some points and get the boys back in his corner (I hope).
Here’s the longer Sport-Bild article that was the source for the spox article: https://sportbild.bild.de/bundeslig...sse-marsch-bei-rb-leipzig-77675526.sport.html
I've always thought that the emphasis on accents when learning a foreign language is weird. Like, I've never heard an immigrant to the US speak English without some kind of accent, and that's totally fine - expecting them to sound like they're from Ohio would be ludicrous. Why should I need to attempt a Parisian accent if I'm speaking French?
I think that there should probably some emphasis on pronunciation, but I see your point. I guess it just struck me as odd to hear such conversational German spoken with an American accent. The accent is probably just window dressing anyway.
it really sounds to me like nagelsmann got away from the identity red bull writ large wanted and personally moved to a more possession based style. now red bull want to get back to their brand identity, have employed jesse to do it, and the players are still locking fondly backwards at the success they had under nagelsmann and possession now that times are tough. jesse might get the blame, but i think the next guy is going to do what the red bull higher ups want and not kowtow to the players either, especially since the players left who seem to be complaining are probably older and as such not really in demand so much?
I'll bet you he and his coaching team will have thoroughly scouted out the Koln team.. in fact, you could call it a colognescopy...
