Being on crutches and only being out for 10 days kinda seem incompatible, but maybe it's just a painful contusion or something that is bad right now but will heal quicker than a muscle or joint problem.
I’m not a doctor but that’s what my guess is. I remember bruising my calcaneus once, and I couldn’t even walk on it... but about 10 days later, it was perfectly fine.
If it's a bad bone bruise, I can definitely understand that. I was playing softball one night and took a bad-hop grounder right on my shin bone. To say that it hurt was a massive understatement. I was helped off the field by two teammates and couldn't walk right for a week, and that was a rec softball thing. The crutches could also be very precautionary, as in "we know it'll heal faster if you don't put weight on it, so even though you COULD walk you SHOULDN'T walk.
IDK how accurate FotMob is but it says expected return for Weah is mid September and Dest as late September.
OUT: Tim Weah (October) Sam Vines (November) Aaron Long (out past November) Jordan Morris (out past November - back in training) Richie Ledezma (out past November - return is past due) Eryk Williamson (likely out through all of WCQ) Christian Pulisic (10 days) Gio Reyna (October) Sergino Dest (end of September) Josh Sargent (undetermined) Zack Steffen (back spasms, Covid) IN Daryl Dike Yunus Musah Paul Arriola Gyasi Zardes
EB, I'll rep you again when the INs outnumber the OUTs. I'll give you until the next window - make it happen!
Dest is reporting for duty today, Barcelona v Bayern Munich, CL Group E, Matchday 1. This was unexpected, and I wouldn't expect him to play much (if at all), but still, it's an encouraging sign.
Yeah, Dest just had a grade one ankle sprain. A short term 10 day kind of injury. Can return whenever it starts feeling right, which appears to be imminent. So barring anything else, he'll be available in October. Same for Pulisic. Reyna and Weah appear to be the close calls for the October window. Neither will have played in at least a month, though. By the way, an FCD one. Some folks were pushing John Nelson for a USMNT look. He's out the rest of the season after recent back surgery.

Seems like Weah might be back soon...................... Some good news on #USMNT injury front, Tim Weah, injured in training on Aug. 28, should be ready to go Saturday for Lille in its derby at Lens, reports L’Equipe in its Thursday edition. It needs him. He was Lille’s best winger before he was hurt, and it faces 6 games in 20 days.— Paul Kennedy (@pkedit) September 15, 2021
So at least right now other than our longer term injuries, it seems like Renya and Vines are the only ones who we’ll be definitively be missing next window. I still hold a faint hope for Renya too but I think it’s unlikely. Mostly I’d just like to see this lineup take the field together finally the hive mind has spoken pic.twitter.com/PB1efITFM9— scuffed (@scuffedpod) September 16, 2021
I'd really like to see that one to but switching Weah for an injured Reyna is also intriguing. It also gives Weah a an audition and if he passes then the Reyna to midfield becomes more doable.
Seems like Aaronson has that earned spot if Reyna is out. Obviously with rotation and subs though, there are minutes for the both of them though.
For now I like him more as a sub because of the high energy and his ability to play multiple positions. I'd like to see Weah because of his pace to stretch and see if that unlocks Pulisic.
Pulisic is close, but not quite ready. Thomas Tuchel on Christian Pulisic:🗣"Christian Pulisic has returned to individual training but is not ready to face Tottenham." pic.twitter.com/NUtNSWlDte— USMNT Universe (@UsmntU) September 17, 2021
It appears that Sargent may be closer than Pulisic................... Daniel Farke: "Sargent was struggling with a minor hamstring injury. He did some individual work at the beginning of the week, since Wed, he's been back in full team training. We'll have to see if he is available for 90 mins, but he is definitely a topic for the squad.” #USMNT— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) September 17, 2021
Konrad? From what I've seen of his play with OM, he's been more impressive to me than TW. But, I claim no expertise, and we're talking small sample sizes here.
I see him as a very viable Pulisic type. He plays similar in a lot of ways. So the question is who makes the best combinations. Is have another darty, tricky winger opposite Pulisic (KdlF or Hoppe), a more effort gut busting good finisher (Aaronson), a field stretcher who can be like a second striker (Weah), a hard working, hard pressing second striker (Sargent) or a hub that can combine and finish (Reyna). I haven't seen enough of any of these combos and also think opponent matters a lot but kind of salivate at Weah (Hoppe or Morris when healthy) stretching the field and Pulisic and Pepi staying with him. Defenses could be hard pressed to stay with all three of those guys darting around into space.
