Chofis scores a hattie and we still lose, thats pretty legendarily awful. He had a hell of a game, that third goal especially was special. But rest of the team just bootie

Paul Marie doesn’t belong on an MLS roster, he just isn’t that caliber of player on either side of the ball, he hurt the team more than an exhausted Abecasis, which is saying something

Everyone other than Chofis invisible. M.Lopez had a few moments in the first half. Another bad night for JY, his confidence level must be at zero right now. Fierro was the place whete many attacks went to die. Wondo’s one chance was off target. Other than that didn’t hear his named mentioned that often.

Week after week its the same old story, it’s like a broken record talking about this team. No, year after year it’s the same old story. (Except 2012).

And yet I’ll probably watch the Austin match. I guess that’s the definition of insanity.

Once again, VAR does our opponents a solid. We can't get any review of harsh fouls against us like the one that probably ended Jebo's season, but RSL gets a red card reviewed and overturned.

no you didn’t. We finished 6th out of 8 teams in the west. We had a couple of good playoff games, but otherwise we sucked….

Yes I did. We finished within one game of the MLS Cup final, something we didn't even do in 2012. Compared to most of the rest of our post-Golden Age years, 6th and making the playoffs ain't too shabby.

EDIT = Went 13-10-7 (W-L-D) in the 2010 regular season with a goal differential of +1. Not great, but far from sucking as well.

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! :(

Bit of a waste of a 3 goal effort.

I really do like just about all the players in the squad but the subs didn't help today.

Brutal!! We go ahead 3-2 on Chofis’s 3rd goal, it should’ve been the feel good game of the season and would put us back in the playoff conversation. Ish.

But no, we can’t have nice things.

I'm constantly reminded of that everytime I see our still unfinished barebones stadium, particularly in comparison to the latest batch of MLS SSS's. :(

It’s kind of apples to oranges to me. They do different things. Abecasis likes to hit long crosses in the air, TT is more about off the ball runs into the box and then make a run or hit a low deep cross. TT is a better ball winner. They are both slow. But to me Abecasis is just really serviceable in a sort of pedantic way. It’s almost like I expect him to be carrying a lunch pale to go to work doing his right back duties in a completely unremarkable way. When TT is not overly conservative he’s at least fun to watch because he tries stuff.

TT was the starter at the beginning of the season and then Judson started playing there and then TT got injured, and Abecasis started getting minutes. Shortly before TT got injured Matías made him captain one game, and I really liked how he played - he was back to being aggressive. And now he can’t see any minutes at all. It’s like Matías lost confidence in him. I guess we’ll have to wait until the friendly to see him play again this season.

I’m at a point where I want to just assume the Quakes won’t make the playoffs - chances may be single digits now, and hope that we start playing the young guys more to see what we have. Jacob, Haji, Skahan, more Cade, etc.

    Also:

We need to keep Chofis playing at forward.
We really, really, really missed Nathan tonight. No way we give up 4 goals with Nathan in there.

Brilliant! A golazos hat trick won’t save this team.

Yueill, Remedí and Judson…why do we always take out Judson who is indispensable?

Yueill continues his miss of the week and bad performance. Ball watching the whole time and that costed us one of the goals. His distribution to the wings was always under hit. He will soon be just another MLS journeyman. I am caring less and less about him each game. CM was supposed to be the area I worried the least but I would want an upgrade there in off season.

Remedi insisted to hold on to the ball. He could make a simple pass but decided not to. He lost the ball a few times that way and one of those moments resulted in the RSL shot that led to the corner kick at the end of first half. That was RSL’s first goal.

Fiero, Marie and Cade…all running, no product.

We lost because of too many give aways in our own half. Besides that we were just ok. Chofis earned his paycheck this game.

Alanis really killed us tonight. Horrible marking on RSL's 2nd goal, and the 3rd was his own goal. 4th goal I think JT could've done better. I think he was a little shell-shocked at that point. He needs Nathan in front of him there.

We're not quite yet in single digits for playoff chances (538), but we're close - 10%.

So sad so sad. I didn’t think they played so badly, they just don’t take enough shots. Too much passing in the final third.

Quakes web site right now is like OAN after the Newsom recall election. Lots of Chofis highlights - not so much about the result of the game. And BTW, purchase your season tickets!

I just want to say I never want to see Judson subbed out even if we’re pushing the game. He provides so much coverage when the game opens up. It was one of those strange games, but subbing Judson was a pivot point in the game.

Fierro was a complete disaster tonight so many bad decisions and giveaways killing some really good moments.

Alanis iso’d is a no win situation…Russnek simply pushed the ball to his right to get his shot off…really poor.

Really a shame to waste such a great effort by Chofis.

so yeah, subbing out Judson is a game changer in the wrong direction. Puts way too much pressure on the slow back line…

It was a shockingly bad decision by Almeyda to be honest. The Quakes have 3 games in seven days. He is suspended for the next game so Almeyda runs the legs off Remedi and Yuiell instead. WHY??? I hate when the coach subs out the guy who will resting next game. Yuiell was awful as attacking midfielder so you move him back to cover the entire central mid area with Remedi as a del facto right back?

Almost as stupid as taking out Chofis for Andy f**king Rios. RSL was terrified that Chofis was going to burn them again. Why not tell the team to get him the ball in the box and let him draw a PK?

Fierro should have been pulled at half time. He was a HUGE liability all game long.

As cool as the four player substitution looked, it backfired spectacularly. Cowell and Espinoza barely played ANY defense and were clearly instructed to just hang up front with Benji. That left a gaping hole in midfield and RSL exploited it.

Marie playing in front of Remedi was dumb as well. He and Judson OWNED the middle of the field in the first half and then MA takes out Judson and moves Remedi to right back so Yuiell has to hold the middle by himself? Bad tactics....

What a hat trick by Chofis, probably the finest in Quakes history, and one of the best in league history. It would have made Mo Salah proud. On the first one a high looping ball is put over his head down the wing and his first touch both sheds the defender and opens up the shot, which he strokes home with such power and precision.
On the second one he is passed the ball on the wing from the kickoff and races down the field into the box where he beats three defenders on the dribble and then cheekily puts the ball through the legs of a fourth and past the goalie. And I couldn't tell if he sat that one defender down on the dribble or the guy was tripped by a teammate.
And then the Olympico for the third. Perfect placement.
All three should be GOTW candidates.
Too bad such quality earned the Quakes 0 points.

That was a correct decision by the VAR on the RSL player. It was a hand, not an elbow, and not swung back with any malicious intent.
I do think there should have been further punishment for Abubaturd, but, when have you ever seen a head to head like that lead to an ejection? It was a very cynical foul and it certainly endangered the safety of his opponent. If he had led with an elbow the ref probably would have ejected him, but, since it was his head, and he injured himself in the process, they don't look at it the same. But, they should.
