This has nothing to do with Lingard himself: he is a useful player off the bench but not in this situation imo. We're taking off our only forward remaining: at least introduce a like for like replacement. Someone who can be a genuine threat not just up top but on the counter as well. Lingard can score in his own right but Martial just appears to be the more natural choice in this situation. Just been weird subs for the most part on Ole's part, from my point of view.
Save the point and GTFO. That pitch is atrocious, refereeing hasn't been great either. They're playing physical and we've been playing with one man less for how many minutes now? Players are tired... I have to agree, the subs were odd to me. VDB should have remained and Martial instead of Ronaldo for me. Save the point and leave Switzerland without injuries.
That's what can be completely grating about Ole at times. Just because we're down to 10 men doesn't mean we have to completely retreat and hide in our shell. Look no further than how Tuchel had Chelsea playing AT ANFIELD for a a whole half after they went down to 10 right before the break. Ole does lack bravery at times and making YB look better than they actually are in the process. It's vexing... But we are where we are: as mentioned just need to save the point at this point and that's it: all that matters at this point..
Was a very poor goal to concede, the guy who scores it is ahead of our midfield and runs at them and lays it off, he doesn’t get tackled by Fred who allows him to just run into the box without tracking him. Ran past Pogs too - who also not interested in tracking runners into the box. Our lack of a decent DCM apparent again.
I blame Wan Bissaka for being an idiot and making a a stupid tackle that was never needed (and was an example of everything wrong with him, never in control of his body) I blame Ole for being a wimp and having us try to waste time for 60 minutes And Lingard, that was an embarrassingly pathetique backpass. Lingard should start packing
