Meanwhile, Guerrero scored on a freekick. 3-3 at the 70th.
I wouldn't be surprise we see more goals yet... on both sides!

Hah, it needed a bloody face for VAR to intervene for us.
    Penalty, Haaland converts.

Fault on Reus in the box... At least the ref is consistent with his earlier call.
PENALTY. Haaland to take I'm a bit scared...

** *He took it well 4-3. PLEASE PLEASE defend properly....

Unsportsmanlike conduct from the Leverkusen fans throwing beer cup at Haaland...

Wow, we almost conceded a counterattack goal while being in the lead on the road. Absolute chaos in our box.

At least BVB fans get value for money. Any score is possible.

Kobel is a clear upgrade on Burki. I think he will be busy this season.

Exactly, Far from being in the books with 10 minutes left I could see us conceding twice easily...

Hummels is back... I guess Rose is has worried as we are to force Hummels there with a few minutes left.

Stoppage time now 6 minutes added, which makes sense with the goals, penalty, injuries...

Good scoring chance but Wolf squander it with a very weak shot that leads to a an half counter. But it was stop in the midfield where Wolf earns himself a yellow. he's been on the pitch less than 5 minutes lol.

Have a good rest of the day, going to take a double dose of my blood pressure medication now lol

We won, but we're not going to challenge for the Bundesliga with such a leaky defence. This game plan of outscoring the opposition isn't a viable strategy.

We've conceded an average of 2.25 goals per league match. Not good.

We somehow win this game with several of our players not at their best and an inability to defend. We've almost conceded half as many goals as in the last 17 BL games under Terzic.

Reus and Guerreiro were mostly unlucky and well below what they can do, Dahoud was invisible, Witsel had no influence. Meunier had a decent game and it's a bit hard to judge the CBs playing together for the first time. But it's comical that the Hummels sub was actually needed not only because of two box clearances but also because of several interceptions.

Hamann, who has rather good and unbiased takes usually, argued it shouldn't have been a penalty because there was no intention to foul. I heard the same bs from the moderators in the Reus situation of the last game when the defender crashed into his legs. I don't pretend to know the rules exactly but I'm pretty sure intention was never the primary justification to give a pen. When did this braindead reasoning start?

If 'intention' was the defining factor, no penalty would ever be given!!! lol
Who in their right mind would foul INTENTIONALLY a player in the box?

Actually this was the initial rule for all fouls, but since the 50s that has been removed.

Anyway we managed to win. It is going to be a hard and tough season, but we should make top 4.

I would actually say that given the team have already beaten Frankfurt convincingly and now won at Leverkusen, with Hummels just coming back plus Can in a few weeks (who although not elite does solidify the team v most BL opponents), that a top 4 spot should be less of a struggle to obtain this season then it was last season. Leipzig look a lot weaker and Wolfsburg lack the depth given they are in CL this season. Obviously competing with Bayern looks a stretch to say the least, but 2nd place is very achievable as is last 16 CL given the relatively good draw.

Even though we defended like crap, I think it's very hard to judge by this game with many missing, the coach still instilling his ways and the international break being last 2 weeks.

We definitely STILL need to learn to defend as a team. That's the biggest lesson from the early games of the season. But Pongracic does seem solid. And if I want to take a couple more positives from the game is that if we can get Brandt and Meunier to regain some confidence, like they did today, we will do much better.

Yes it seems we will succeed in all the boards goals, but that is not enough. My BVBTV account is playing up and so there's no way in England I could have watched the game properly, which is extremely annoying.

So I really can't comment much about the actual match.

But it seems we still need a winger, a CDM and possibly a RB.

Bellingham, Reyna, Brandt Reus (though he can play outwide) all play in the same position. It is such a badly put together squad.

We have five 10s and no wingers.
Fives 10s and just two central midfielders.

We need a Director of football with balls and a plan to sort of this out.

One of Bellingham, Brandt, Reyna need to be sold as soon as possible. We need to take into consideration who is going to be with us long term as well.
Then buy a winger and a midfielder.

We banked a very good result despite the chaotic process. I feel like the issues leading up to the goals conceded are correctable, and a bunch of players stepped in and gained some confidence going forward, which is a definite positive for the squad. I liked how Meunier and Brandt managed to drag themselves out of the doghouse, and surprise starter Pongracic put in a powerful shift. Witsel as a lone 6 was a very questionable lineup choice which put him in a bad position, and we know he should be a squad player at best these days.

Let's hope Rose can straighten things out so we don't give up so many silly goals - based on early returns I'm less concerned about the attack, but it feels like a year when Reyna and Bellingham will have to grow up and turn in mature performances without losing their individual spark, becoming match winners in the absence of Sancho.
