Amen...... it has NOTHING to do with being a misogynist or homophobe and everything to do with her being a cancer on this team that infects the team with her misguided political ideas. Who was it that started the kneeling crap? fast forward... now most of them are doing some kind of protest that they never used to do. Why? ask Hope Solo. She claims to have seen Rapinoe bullying others into joining her. I believe Hope on this. During the Olympics it seemed to be only Lloyd and Ohara that were not doing their little thing.

Bottom line. Rapinoe has been done for some time now. She should just retire so she can protest full time. How is her Subway campaign going? People are boycotting Subway BECAUSE she is pushing their subs. Havent see those commercials lately have we? Its now Tom Brady. I think millions have seen enough of her and her mentor, Colin Kaepernick (who also shot himself in the foot)

    Once the general public usually leaves after an major tournament, the one thing you got to accept is that the remaining year round, hard core fans of the USWNT & woso tend to be a very, very, very Liberal crowd. WHY?(you might or not ask). Here’s a couple of possible reasons;

    1) with about 30%+ of the players gay, your going to have a large lesbian fan base. So Rapinoe makes an unique spokesperson for their cause

2)most woso fans tend to be college educated. Unlike broso which tends to be more about pro soccer, it’s college education thanks to TITLE IX that put American women’s soccer on the map(or even on top of the world)

and if you didn’t read up yet on white voting demographics; college educated voted overwhelmingly Democrat, workings stiffs decidedly Republican

I personally wish to see brand new players in there for the USWNT regardless what their political beliefs are

I would like to see brand new players in there for the USWNT as well, but I don’t think that is going to solve the problem. If you change the players and don’t change the style of play, then you really haven’t created anything new that will help us cope with the European teams that continue to evolve.

All we are doing is plugging in new players for aging veterans to do what we have always done. Sure it worked and it worked well for the US, but the Olympics exposed a lot about the players, system, and the team philosophy in this day and age. What took a big hit was the aura of invincibility that has existed around the US team for so long. Now the element of doubt exists in the minds of the players.

For those of us who would like to see the team adapt to a new style of play, I am sorry to say that ain’t gonna happen, at least not for the next WC and Olympics and even maybe long after that.

You see here in the US we have very few American players being produced at the youth level, in colleges or the NWSL that can adapt to a more pattern style of European style of play. The Americans who stay long enough in Europe might be a better way to go if we seek quicker results. However, even then, there are very few of them to choose from.

Of course, the cold hard truth is that we would most likely even have to replace most of our current favorites on the squad as well for it to have any real impact. Sure like that is going happen!

Whether the US plays a team ranked 30th or 50th does not matter much. Neither can offer much challenge and one may not be stronger than the other. Woman teams at the lower echelon from different associations rarely ever played each other to really prove their head to head's ability.

The main reason why the USWNT is losing their invincible status is because of their aging squad. It has nothing to do with their methodology which by the way had won them countless accolades through the years. Europeans in particular are catching up because they have younger, faster, more determined squads.

Of course, not everyone who dislikes Rapinoe is a bigot, misogynist, or homophobe, but someone's living a sheltered life if they haven't noticed how many are. I could be wrong but maybe RevsRule has tipped his hand before on where he stands politically.

And those people, Trump Eaters many of them, are a bigger threat to our democracy than almost any "liberal" who speaks up and defends Rapinoe against those people. This is a time for choosing between democracy and fascism; and I am deeply deeply unimpressed with people who brag about being political "independents" at a time like this because it's an excuse for tolerating fascism.

ADD: and oh I see it's about kneeling for the anthem. Well, I won't pretend it's an absolutely clear-cut issue, but to still be harping on Rapinoe for being divisive over it when we see teams all over, in other countries, now kneeling? Haven't we seen women's teams from Europe kneeling over the last month or two? So Colin Kaepernick was the first, and Rapinoe was one of the first women, and they're still getting targeted by the right-wing over it, but we don't have to play along with their crap.

In terms of the likely outcome, where the US is concerned, I suppose you're right, especially when the US is playing at home. Portugal is currently the #30 team, rated at about 1670. With the US (current rating 2110) at home the rating difference is 440 + 100. Call it 550 points, where the expected win pct is roughly 96% off the top of my head.

But the difference between #30 Portugal and #50 Paraguay could still show up when the US is experimenting with new players, a "B" team of sorts and if they weren't playing at home.

The difference between a roughly 1650 team like Portugal and a 1500 team like Paraguay, a 150 point difference, corresponds to a roughly 70% expected win pct for the higher-rated team on a neutral field.

keep in mind that it wasn’t an stylish Euro team that won the Olympics but who often been called inferior tactics, Canada, that’s temporary on top of the world. A team that’s been called US doppelgänger or its younger sister. A squad where 21 of 22 of it’s players went through our US colleges does proving once again TITLE IX was queen of woso. Who’s only none went-through-college player, Huitema, hasn’t exactly matured under the PSG/Euro system.
Could say that minus the goal record breaking but aging Sinclair, an rather unremarkable squad on paper; three starters(Prince, Chapman, Schmidt) on the current NWSL 7th ranked Houston. One starter(Scott) from last place KC, CA uber-influencers Fleming & Beckie, but who’s club careers are just benchwarmers over in England. Grosso, who scored the OG championship winning PK, plays with the Texas Longhorns(who aren’t even ranked in NCAA’s top 25)
Canada tried to Euro-nize under Moeller as coach, but after failure switched back to the crude tactics of Herdman(or at least their new coach is an prodigy of ).
And remember too, Europe hasn’t won an woso World Cup since 2007, nor the Olympics 4 of the last 5 times. Germany(the 2016 Olympics winner) saw their own Bundesliga decline after all those other rich Euro kept buying off their league’s best players(thus their NT declined as well).
And Sweden(the current Euro flavor of the month) saw their own elite club team, Rosengard, decimated in the CL by Hoffenheim(bunch of college kids led by an 18 year old). So don’t feel like they themselves know quite what their doing

So someone complained about a post because they assume someone is a "Trump Eaters... living a sheltered life"? That's an awesome assumption. If you represent a country, then represent it to your fullest. If you have an issue with your country, then do not represent it. Quite simple really. Now what someone does on their own time?!? I would be more tolerant about. What you do on the countries time, I'm less tolerant because the player has a choice. You dislike the direction of the country... don't represent it. Didn't Ada Hegerberg,, one of the best players in the world sit out for ... was it Norway? During the last WC because she didn't like her countries pay scale?

The Norwegian press blamed Ada for their flop at the 2017 Euros(they were faves going into it but end up loosing all their games with Ada scoring zero goals)

So dealing with the pressure & high expectations from her own country is why she decided to quit. Later on the Norway women would end up getting equal pay.

I want to watch the full replays of the Euros in 2017. Maybe Ada couldn’t scored cause she was marked or the mid fielders couldn’t pass to her.

Just your normal match-fit player on an Olympics roster. Still have to "manage her minutes" 6 weeks after the tournament

Norway got stuck in an group that ended with the two eventual finalists.
Ada came in with a lot of creds; as an then 18 year old, she led her NT into the 2013 Euro finals. Her Lyon club just won the Champions League in she scored about 21-31 goals an season. Coincidence or not, everybody on the Lyon squad had an terrible Euro tourney(Marozsan was a total disaster as well as the French NT). Guess a bunch of superstars playing in the mostly amateur French League year doesn’t quite prepare for an major summer against way tougher competition.
And this complacency as shown by previous Lyon players is what I worry about will happen to Macario(who I feel should of tried the NWSL first)

Macario got a big paycheck compared to NWSL, sure she’s not getting much competition besides playing against PSG or in CL, but she can learn much from it and in the near future join NWSL. Horan did it with PSG.

Or having a coach that lets the players run him, not him running the players. If he wants to keep his job, he must move forward and get younger and faster. It takes guts. Maybe our best woman's coach ever, Anson Dorrance, did it. He turned the program around and was unpopular for doing it, at first. He cut aging fan favs and brought in teenagers... including Lilly, Hamm, Fouty and others. We all know the rest. If this current coach wants to keep his job, he needs to take control and needs to follow the Dorrance model

Not so sure it will be the near future unless the NWSL is willing the pony up a lot of money to get her. Right now she has become a vital part of the Lyon offense. She leads the team in goals with 4 in the first 5 games. Since joining the team, she has 10 goals in 16 games, most of them came from playing the center forward position. With the exposure she will get in the CL, she should generate a lot of interest when her contract ends in 2023.

This is an odd post, starting with the fact that there were no ageing fan favs in 1986 when Dorrance took over the team. The previous history of the national team was a grantd total of THREE international matches under Mike Ryan, in 1985.

Also, it would have been hard to have fan favorites because there were no fans. The three matches were all played in Italy. There was not TV, and most people had never heard , much less seen, there even was such a thing as a national team. All were losses against teams that had been together for at least a decade and a half in Italy, Denmark, and England. Italy, for example, had been playing successfully internationally since 1968. Denmark won the first ‘world cup’ organized by UEFA in 1970. If anybody had ageing players, it would have been the UEFA teams.

The “ageing players” favored by USSoccer that Dorrance didn’t bring into camp were college age players in favor of the high school players he did call in. Soccer ended after college for virtually all players because there was nowhere for them to play.
Even back then 17-21 year olds were not considered ageing. The ‘older’ players had the disadvantage that there were no club programs in this country when they were younger.
The most controversial call up was Kim Crabbe, the first black player to ever wear the USWNT kit. It was considered a bold move in the all white US game, but Crabbe can’t be said to have had much of a senior career.

the first tournament Dorrance took the team to was the1988 Women’s invitational in China in 1988 where the team was knocked out in the Quarters by Champions Norway.

and among the great coaching moves Dorrance made was to stumble on the player who was voted FIFA player of the century in Michelle Akers, ( shared with Sun Wen) who turned down a scholarship offer to play for his UNC team

and the idea that players need to be ‘run’ is the oddest of all concepts., almost as odd as the concept that any players have ever ‘run’ a coach.

It was 6-0 at half. It's now 7-0 early in the second half.

Sullivan now has a brace. Pugh three assists.
