They do now. Fair enough. A really unlucky draw for both the US and Canada in terms of getting CentAm experience... but with Panama in Pot 2 and El Salvador in Pot 3 for next time, there's a chance the US can get a CentAm opponent, while Canada has at least a 50% chance given Honduras and Costa Rica remaining in Pot A.
No, but Montagliani's made a point of emphasizing this in his OneSoccer interviews: Everyone in Concacaf has to qualify for the Gold Cup via the Nations League - no more automatic berths. If the US were to get relegated from League A and fail to win in the playoffs, we'd miss out.
So we know Qatar is invited again. That leaves 15 spots. We still don't know who makes it then. Is it all of group A + 3 Group B. Is it the top 8 Group A plus playoffs? Does group C get a spot? I haven't seen an actual announcement yet.
i think Alexi Lalas invented this term when England & Italy got "Concacaf'd" in the world cup in brazil, knocked out by Costa Rica.
Whoah. Berhalter suspended Weston McKinney for a second game. I can't believe this. McKinney is like 20 years old and fully vaccinated (and I think has even had Covid). What Covid protocol is worth a 2 game suspension? Personally I'd have made him do pushups or analyze more film or something as punishment, not send him back to Juventus. McKinney is going to hate Berhalter now, and Pulisic also won't be happy. And the US is now without two of its best players for an important WCQ. Sitting McKinney for one game sounded like a sneaky way to make sure he's fully rested for the third match. I hope Berhalter knows what he's doing...
Nothing more hilarious than people who want to IGNORE all recent results and make up some phantasy data that doesn't exist to confirm their bias.
Data isn't adding up with what we've seen on the field so far from Canada.. soooo Speaking of.. Davies ruled out against ES. Already on his way back to Germany. This now becomes a trap game.
So in what context did you use the term in your original statement, that ES pulled a surprising result? I don't think there was anything extraordinary about ES drawing at home. I don't recall there being a third place match in the gold cup, but I am aware that Nations League had one, both joke tournaments. Regardless, I just don't think either of the summer tournaments qualify as a valid benchmark, they're not on the same level as a qualifier. Should be interesting to see how Canada pulls through in this Octagon. Although TBH, I personally would be shocked if they qualify. Can't see them taking away points from any of the Central American stadiums (except maybe Panama). Certainly not at Azteca.
Don't have an official confirmation, but likely the same as last time: League A winners & runners-up (8) + League B winners (4) + Qatar + 3 winners from the playoffs (League A 3rd-placers, League B runners-up, League C winners)
Concacaf'd (adj.). The sensation of being screwed over by the refs, unsportsmanlike rivals, hostile away fans, suboptimal playing conditions, the confederation itself, etc., coupled with the irrational belief that these are part of a coordinated effort against your team (or part of the region) in particular.
Rumor going around that he slept with Pulisic Sister, here is some context https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-...g-unauthorized-individual-into-bubble-sources
This is something that I can be agree on and Panama coach Christiansen should fix it asap if they want a back to back world cup qualification. Today could mark the end of those memories of Panama dropping points in Rommel Fernandez. We don’t lose here for WCQ since Graham fu$@/ Suzi goal in 2013 but a lot of draws have been conceded to direct rivals like Costa Rica or Honduras.
I guessed he probably had a chick over, which proved true according to reports. That it was Pulisic's sister seems hard to believe...
There is this from Landon Donovan. Pulisic sister story sounds correct. https://www.eurosport.com/football/...ted-by-weston-mckennie_sto8529777/story.shtml
That podcast has been out a day or two now and discussed ad nauseum on here. Nothing LD said proves or disproves anything.
True that it proves nothing but the tone seems to suggest Weston did something more serious than break Covid protocols.
Unfortunately the USMNT doesn’t have that one guy that can be a leader or is old enough to instill some discipline to the younger guys, makes you wonder what kind of tension there is within GB’s squad. I saw a pre-match interview with Pulisic talking about Mckennie’s exit,he looked beat and burned out. If Weston did sleep with Pulisic’s sister, this probably can ruin a team’s camaraderie or mentality and that’s the last thing this USMNT needs. Mckennie just took out the USMNT’s best player mentally considering these guys are friends supposedly.
That's entirely off-base, so let's nip that in the bud. Rather, as Tom Bogert has shared on Twitter, LD's comment is more towards McKennie's hypocrisy: he was one of the team leaders calling on everyone to be accountable after Matchday 1, only to break team protocols multiple times in Nashville.
It predates that, in Canadian soccer circles at least (here's a reference in 2013 to "CONCACAFFing" which seems to rely on it as an established thing). I think Canadian and American fans have used it for ages to refer to the crazy home advantage, screwy decisions, time-wasting, diving/flopping that used to be endemic in CONCACAF And I get that Nations League is the sole Gold Cup qualifying now, but if the US or Mexico dropped out of League A you don't think they'd find a way to get them in? Just put a game at Azteca and say they're in as co-hosts
Canada up early 2-0 on El Salvador. Lots and lots of El Salvador fans at the game in Toronto. El Salvador getting ripped apart by Canada so far. Let’s see if El Salvador have the ability to open it up and chase goals.
