You mean the coach that has already been fired once and is coaching a MLS team that is going to miss the playoffs in a league where like every team makes the playoffs?
I wonder who would be the relatively unsung guy that Bob would trust more than the public does. In Gregg's case it's clearly Lletget (who is a better player than the fanbase at large gives him credit for). Who would that guy be for Bob?
I thought Bob B was a horrible coach. Just out of his depth. And colroed by his son on the team. And I think he would be a massive improvement right now.
I was one of the Bob haters and we were in the distinct minority. However, there were some extremely vocal and... prolific posters among our number. That said, at this point I would be happy with Bob stepping in as an emergency replacement for GGG.
I mean that ended in failure but it was the right idea to try and go for a coach who’d successfully qualified twice before and is one of the best coaches in the history of MLS. But also it’s not as if they had very many options given where they were at the time. For people who want a new coach it’s just not realistic that it would be anyone but Bradley if it happened anytime soon. It’s at the beginning of a cycle when you have a chance to go with an outsider or someone less experienced at the international level.
Well, you did very well in your second language! It absolutely lacks seriousness, and transmits a lazy attitude. Especially down some busy street; It looks like "Hey, look at me!" Hotels have treadmills. You nailed it. In your second language.
being the best coach in the history of MLS is like being the tallest short guy in a room. It means nothing.
We score one goal every game. The last time Canada was shut out, win or lose, was ..... I guess we shut them out in Gold Cup. Without Davies or David. But what were the odds of doing that twice in a row? So this game had one possible outcome, at best.
Haven’t read any comments, just finished watching the match on DVR. Terrible result obviously. It’s like we’re bringing back the empty bucket. There is a huge gap between the forward and the DM and all attacks get pushed out to the flanks which is predicable. We need more creativity out of the middle to break teams down. Obviously hurt with Reyna being out. Players who I thought did well: A Robinson (MotM), M Robinson, Aaronson Players who I thought didn’t play well: Lleget (worst), Dest, Yedlin, Acosta, Prefok I think Berhalter is in over his head here. Where were the subs? The pressure is building. At least Holden is calling Gregg out.
I know people are eager to blame Berhalter, but this seems pretty apparent to be just a team-wide breakdown to me. I don't think Berhalter even really has a system; even if we start in a 4-3-3 most of the time, it plays differently every game. Today, based on the first 20 minutes, it seemed like Lleget was supposed to drop deep to create a back 3 in possession and allow Pulisic to play as a half-space merchant. But we abandoned that like 20 minutes in. If that was the plan, why abandon it, and why not go back to it at other points in the game? What was Aaronson doing playing so high and clogging Dest's space? Why play Pefok and lump balls up to Aaronson and Lleget instead? What were those subs at the end putting De La Fuente central when his only discernable skills is 1v1 ability? It just seems like Berhalter hasn't decided what he wants to do and how he wants to do it, and it's kinda late for tinkering. That being said, the players absolutely deserve some of the blame. I love Pulisic, but the guy hasn't had a world class performance for us since Panama. He still dribbles into blind alleys too much and it doesn't seem like he understands the best places to pick up the ball. McKennie is a joke; lays an egg against El Salvador and then goes and breaks protocol before the biggest US game of his career. I have no clue what Dest thinks he's doing out there half the time. Brooks has terrible body language and has an awful game for every good one. Aaronson isn't ready for this level. These are guys that are supposed to separate us from the rest of CONCACAF, and they're just not showing up (besides Adams, dude is a boss). I think they're not doing as well as Berhalter has a right to expect from them, and they're letting him down to an extent. If we're gonna fix this, everyone has to be better, cause right now, it's just not good enough.
Well, in the sense that he relied almost exclusively on the older generation in '18, and now basically nobody has wcq experience it's true. But in the broad scheme I agree with you. Can't blame JK for this.
I mean that’s not true at all. MLS isn’t the EPL but that doesn’t mean being a good coach in that league is meaningless. And lots of high profile foreign coaches have also failed miserably in MLS. And it was a perfectly fine launching pad for the likes of Jesse Marsch and Patrick Viera, both of whom had their first coaching jobs in MLS and both of whom are managing teams in a top 5 league. But also you’re not going to get a high profile international coach to come in at this point in the cycle when you’re already behind the eight ball. There’s also no way we could afford some of the high profile people on the market. Conte was making 23 million a year at Inter and Zidane was making about 15 million at Real Madrid. I don’t think US Soccer could compete with that. If you want an outsider at this point in time the best we could do is probably someone like Carlos Queiroz who himself was just fired by Columbia for doing poorly in qualifying.
I’m sure he does but things would have to go wrong for that to happen. If he does well at Leipzig he will have top clubs looking at him. Zero chance he passes on that to coach the US in 2026 cycle.
I mean I don’t know how you could listen to interviews with Jesse Marsch and the way he talks about the US job and think that’s true. It’s not as if offers from top clubs won’t be around later if he does a good job with the US in the 2026 cycle.
Many of us didn’t want the idiotic hire in the first place and after that, we smoked out the fraud that he was by summer ‘19. I bought the grit piece due to the results this summer and spring but the performances were always a niggling worry for some of us and now the bill has come due. His system does not work at generating chances or goals and he’s clearly ridiculously inflexible.
Absolutely! Leadership on the field by a player, Landon. That was the goal of the tournament. We need that by someone on the team now.
no it’s because they played well on the road, they can build off that. What the hell can we build off of? The same s—-y toothless performances we’ve been seeing for 3 years running w/no change whatsoever. There’s a huge difference between what they did and what we did, regardless of the draw result.
Yep. Many of us were against the hire because of the nepotism and the availability of better candidates. I must say, I changed my opinion after McBride was hired and the rosters got much better. And the successful results this summer were good. But, things are clearly not working now. There must be somebody available who could get more out of this pool.
Lletget was good. But, our midfield of Pulisic, Adams, Aaronson, Acosta, and Lletget don’t know their roles. It’s haphazard and reactionary. That’s a coaching problem. Lletget, Aaronson and Pulisic made shit happen a couple of times. Thanks to Aaronson for the goal. But, that’s just players playing. That didn’t come from the system or setup.
