I didn’t know much about him before but family in Brighton (ST holder) reckons he’s the pooch’s privates. But I don’t reckon we’re in any rush at the moment.

last season his stats for tackles were 2nd best in the PL. (we had nobody in the top 18 )

downside is he plays for Mali so future AFCONs .... ?

Madrid is giving up on signing Mbappe this summer. Everyone assumes this means he will sign with them for free after the season. You have to wonder why they made such a massive bid in the first place? Surely they are concerned that there will be competition if he’s available on a free.

I’m not giving up hope yet. Liverpool still have the chance to convince him that playing for Klopp and the Premier League is what is best for him at this point in his career. I would even be okay with a release clause that allows him to go to Madrid after a certain amount of years. He’s young enough to do both.

Carlo learned something when he was at the Ev. If you make noise about putting in a "bid" that was never going to be accepted you'll get credit from the fans for "doing all you can" without actually having to pay up.

But he'd only get to play for Klopp for one year, yes? The year after that, Klopp is planning on leaving I thought.

Klopp’s contract goes until 2024. So he could play for him for 2 seasons if Klopp doesn’t resign. Real Madrid will probably have 4 different managers in that same time period.

He will likely still be loaned and now we've preserved his value for a sale winter or summer. It's a good move and I'm certain the pay raise wasn't huge.

Edit - he's the 5th choice CB - so he won't be leaving on loan.

I know people have short memories but he’s good enough start. True, he doesn’t have van Dijk’s skill set but who does?

A four year deal is nothing to be sniffed at but I still think his career would progress better/faster elsewhere. Fifth man on the totem pole isn't as good as regular football imo and I think Nat is capable of regular starts at a decent club.

    True, speke.

But maybe the potential suitors didn’t value him as much as we do, maybe for the same reason that he’s down the pecking order at Liverpool rather than what he could possibly do for them. I still think Matip will soon break down, Gomez are can Dijk are coming off major layoffs.

It's good for Liverpool coz we know Nat can step in and do a job so as long as Nat is happy then its good all round.

I know a lot of Liverpool fans are disappointed with this transfer window, but here’s some perspective:

From that team that earned 99 points and won the title, we have lost Lovren, Lallana, and Wijnaldum. We have added Thiago, Jota, Konoute, and Elliott. Curtis Jones has also taken on a bigger role. Last season we were robbed of the chance to see what this improved squad could achieve. I still think they are capable of competing for both the league and Champions League.

Hopefully the lack of spending this window is part of a plan that includes a big summer next year. For now, I think we are in a very good place.

    Agreed Suss
What makes it hard is seeing other teams get shiny new toys…

True, but those other teams has serious wholes in the squad. I would have loved to get Sancho, but he would not be a guaranteed starter at Liverpool. They signed him so that he can be their best player. We would have been signing him as another forward option that’s part of a long term succession plan. United put him on higher wages than Mo Salah. Varane is a great signing, but they had major problems at centerback. Even after all that spending, their midfield is still shit. United and Chelsea are spending to try to catch up to Liverpool and City. Chelsea may have just about caught up, but I still prefer our squad.

City spent the entire summer trying to get a centerforward and they still don’t have one. Grealish is outstanding, but if it means less of a role for Sterling are they that much better?

Our squad will need an injection of younger players at some point. But at this point in time, we have a deep squad full of players at top of their game with the best manager in the world. I’m ready to stop talking about transfers and see what that squad can achieve.
