Are you confusing Argentina with Venezuela? There's nothing unusual happening in Argentina, at least nothing out of the ordinary amid a pandemic and Argentina's usual political shenanigans.
Argentina is dealing with a drought at the moment, "100 year bad" drought to add to the climate change checklist, which has lead to reduced effectiveness of the country's agricultural output. It hasnt reached the crisis level yet, nor has it led to mass migration, and certainly doesnt qualify the country to be called a hell hole. But the country does have a problem, much like everywhere else on the planet
“Much like everywhere else on the planet” being the key phrase. It’s got its problems, sure. But as you say, it’s not a hell hole where people are starving or fleeing, which was what Revs Rule was asserting. That’s what I was getting at - it’s not an outlier, really.

Bent Musket tweeted out that Gil is expected back this week and will be evaluated by the club prior to this weekend's game.

I would guess that Friday's too soon for him to make the game-day, but it's great to have him back and training.
So happy to see Carles Gil back and now this made my day today: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Carles Gil returning to training yesterday got such a great reaction the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/NERevs?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc^tfw">#NERevs</a> decided to do the same today with Luis Caicedo. <a href="https://t.co/VUCIFBpgR1">pic.twitter.com/VUCIFBpgR1</a></p>— Jeff Lemieux (@jeff_lemieux) <a href="Carles Gil returning to training yesterday got such a great reaction the #NERevs decided to do the same today with Luis Caicedo. 😄 pic.twitter.com/VUCIFBpgR1— Jeff Lemieux (@jeff_lemieux) August 31, 2021 ">August 31, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Sounds like Wilfred Kaptoum calls him 'Capitan' as he's fastening his 'device'. Fun to get a peek at the personal side of the players.
The Revs have a 14 point lead in the East. Nashville is in second, at 10W-2L-11T. They have 11 games left, 8 of which are on the road. In the West, SEA is 10 points back (13W-4L-6T), with 7 road games out of 11.
MLS announces Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs schedule By MLSsoccer staff Thursday, Sep 9, 2021, 12:58 PM Assuming the Revs hang on the 1-seed in the East (getting a bye in round one), they could potentially be hosting their first playoff game on Thanksgiving (Nov 25th). Interesting that MLS is going head-to-head with NFL on Thanksgiving, with FOX airing MLS playoff game at 4:30pm, while CBS will have Raiders-Cowboys at the same time.
Not that I am expecting Bruce to make any moves in the next 24+ hours, but the roster freeze is tomorrow (Wed) at 8pm ET. What to know: Details around the 2021 MLS Roster Freeze Date By Tom Bogert mlssoccer.com
After seeing the post by @NFLPatriot on the Power Rankings thread, I decided to look ahead a bit to see the rest of the schedule. Even though we don't have a game heavy schedule, we do have two four games in 11 days scheduled. The one that concerns me slightly is that Rapids game as that could possibly decide the Shield. The games in Italics are the ones against teams currently in the playoffs. 9/18: Columbus (H) 9/22: Chicago (A) 9/25: Orlando (H) 9/29: Montreal (A) 10/16: Chicago (H) 10/20: DC (A) 10/24: Orlando (A) 10/27: Colorado (H) 11/7: Miami (H) 9 games remaining, 5 at home, 4 away. 5 games against current playoff teams. Looking at Seattle's remaining schedule: 9/18: Salt Lake (A) 9/22: Nation's League Final (Las Vegas) 9/26: SKC (H) 9/29: San Jose (A) 10/3: Colorado (H) 10/9: Vancouver (H) 10/16: Houston (A) 10/20: Colorado (A) 10/23: SKC (H) 10/26: LAFC (A) 11/1: LA (H) 11/7: Vancouver (A) 12 (total) games left to play before the end of the season, 5 home, 6 away, 1 neutral. 6 games against current playoff teams. Colorado's remaining schedule: 9/15: Portland (A) 9/19: Vancouver (H) 9/25: Toronto (H) 9/29: Austin (H) 10/3: Seattle (A) 10/10: Minnesota (A) 10/16: Salt Lake (A) 10/20: Seattle (H) 10/23: Portland (H) 10/27: New England (A) 10/31: Houston (A) 11/7: LAFC (H) 11 game remaining, 6 home, 6 away. 7 games against current playoff teams. Some notes from these: Our furthest trip away is Orlando. As per airmilescalculator.com, that's the only trip where we will have to fly 1,000 miles (one-way, based out of PVD). Seattle has a couple that are over 1,000 miles each way (Vegas, Houston, Colorado). Seattle and Colorado playing each other twice should help us for the Shield. Colorado's longest trip will be here. They also will be coming here as their fourth game in 11 days, but then they have another one coming up in Houston right after. Things are really set up for us, IMHO.
Will the New England Revolution clinch the Supporters' Shield and make history? By MLSsoccer staff Wednesday, Sep 15, 2021, 11:27 AM
Author covers both sides of the coin, and since it was written the Revs have 2 more wins against the other 4 teams listed, but some sobering stats nonetheless: Handicapping the Eastern Conference contenders for MLS Cup By Greg Seltzer Friday, Sep 3, 2021, 10:09 AM
Interesting. I've always felt the presence of that narrative brought up by the writers around playoff time. If we have to pick between taking the first available trophy (the shield) or the one that so many have stumbled in their quest for, I'd much rather take the shield. Can understand there may be a mentality of having accomplished something, having more of a break before starting playoff games, but we should overcome those and start turning the trend on that stat. I trust Arena knows how to guide them in that.
I found myself doing something similar to what you posted, putting together a Supporters Shield "magic number" spreadsheet that included all of the teams in the top four in each conference. The most likely contenders are us, Seattle and Colorado, and then SKC and Nashville too, but it was worth it to get a full picture of what each team faces the rest of the way and how each team's schedule and performance impacts everyone else. There are so many games to follow, and this week shaped up well for the Revs with the midweek results. NYCFC, ORL, COL, LAG all dropped potential points, reducing their Max possible point total. Seattle advancing to the Leagues Cup final gives them another game and something else to have to think about. Only SKC took all 3 points. Upcoming head to head matchups and games against teams in the hunt for a playoff spot will have a huge bearing on the final table. The Revs have a lot to play for and have to keep their form up. LFG Boys!
If someone told me they could guarantee an MLS Cup win in exchange for the Shield, I'd ponder the offer. But no one can give us that guarantee. MLS Cup is the one that will get the most attention from the wider local sports scene, and even some of the local soccer scene might look at the Shield with less than full appreciation. But it's a coveted prize for so many reasons (first MLS hardware for the team, Champions League spot, its relation to the way champions are crowned in other leagues, home field through the entirety of the playoffs), and the chance to capture that and then try to do a double is just something so tantalizing. Right now, we just have to love this ride, try to stay even keel and wholeheartedly support this team in their efforts.
