It happens all the time in sports where a player does not perform at a team or a time, is traded, or turns it around. Kamara was bad, and now he is not. Abila is actually demonstrating to me that he should start. All the team really needs to do is get a leader on defense, and ditch Flores in exchange for a high priced midfielder (attacking minded) and the team is playoff worthy.
I don’t think Abila is Losada fit to start. Our starters need to be able to high press and have the extra gear to execute on the turnovers. I don’t see that level of fitness from him as of yet.
I just think he regretted his choice of MLS team initially. I'm not sure hit fitness is that much of a problem. I'd at least like to see him start play longer.
Flores is a good player, very strange to suggest he be ditched. Central midfield, forward and winger opposite Flores are clearer spots to upgrade.
Looking at his Boca days, he came in off the bench. If he can fill that role here and still bang in goals, that's a huge win. As long as Kamara is clutch 4 out of 5 games, they'll be in good shape. Abila does seem like a good option on the road to start, though. He's just an entirely different kind of problem. I loved how he shrugged off flavor of the week Leon Flach like he was a gnat on his goal. I can see that quality being useful in those places we always struggle like San Jose and Houston, for example.
Another week and a half of conditioning and maybe he could start. Go for the full 45 of the first half. Even if gassed then play another 15, and then get subbed out.
3rd place in the east and playing soccer that shows a coherent tactical plan and is easy on the eyes with last seasons team. Nice. Let’s take advantage of our upcoming home matches and get this thing done.
I really wish DC were getting Nashville at some other point than right after the international break. I doubt Moreno, Flores, and Reyna will be available for that game, and Najar may not be as well.
Don't think I've ever seen a game where one team completed so many backheels and fancy flicks. Replete with swagger right now. And they should be.
