Reyna keeps getting a bit better after a rough early period. Also Flores adds a lot. Now get some goals and confidence. I'm not Peruvian
Not at all off. A defender on the left was very slow in getting back up with his line and kept Abila on.
Real-time, I thought he was off, too. Watching subsequent replays, it was clear he was on, and what an outstanding goal with the outside of his right foot!
This is my first post in a loooong time. That said; This team can be fun to watch! And OMG, this team really needs a healthy Bill Hamid. Kempin's presence on an MLS roster is...befuddling.
I hope they have defib machines at Audi Field because if Kempin keeps playing, I going to need the paddles. Just compare what he was doing with Blake at the other end. Easily could have been 5-1 DCU if Blake hadn't been there. He made a save on a header late in the second half that was not only first class, but he made it look routine. Kempin, on the other hand, apparently can't call off his players because the collision in the goal really could have resulted in a cheap Philly equalizer. Reyna seems to have finally clicked. He still does dumb stuff, but infrequently now, and he certainly wants to go for goal. He and Paredes had a good working relationship for the first 70 minutes or so. Flores looked better too, but he's not really putting a stamp on the game the way a DP should. I had a close look at Abila's goal. That was nasty stuff. A good pickup off the waiver wire. I don't know whose cornflakes he pissed in in Minnesota, but the guy is a beast around the goal. The ref was an asshat. No fouls in the first 25 minutes or so. Thought it was the Stanley Cup Finals. Still don't know why the knockdown on Najar wasn't a PK, I actually thought that was "harder" than the foul on Reyna that did lead to a PK.
That was fun - mostly. Kempin was much better tonight, and luckily he didn't break Andy on that flying punch. The first 15 minutes were really incredible. Owen Goal needs a good talking to though. The referee was horrifically awful. Even by MLS standards.
What a great game -- this team is really coming together and I love the movement off the ball and passing. So close to making this 2 or 3 to 0 in the first 20" were it not for Philly's amazing GK. I was entertained.
I remain befuddled by Kempin as the starter in Bill’s absence. Every ball toward goal seemed nervy. He’s still making fundamental mistakes like wandering too off his line in the first half and then early in the second, he turned his back to the field in order to change direction, like he was some low post basketball player in the 1980s. I’m guessing the aggression off his line is a function of Zach Thornton telling him the same shit he blocked me for. It’s just bizarre watching him play goalkeeper, having played at a somewhat high level and pick out the mistakes from training sessions where things were only said once because they were so obvious.
