Okay, no pressure. the announcer notes, tonight, all eyes are on gianluca Busio, can he anchor that midfield

Gianluca Busio led all players with 62 first-half touches, 18 more than any Venezia teammate. He completed 40 of his 46 first-half passes (87%): pic.twitter.com/cry5ncCmti— Paul Carr (@PaulCarr) August 27, 2021
That was tough to watch (missed the first half). It would be one thing if they had a leaky defense, but they had trouble creating chances as well so things aren’t looking so bright against a Seria A team they need to do better against if hope to stay up. Busi looked decent from what I saw. Sounds like he may have been better in the first half. Also sounds like Busio is really inconsistent with his corners and free kicks. I remember he was poor in this area in one of the last USMNT games but at SKC he did quite well. As long as his new coach thinks he did well enough to earn another start against Empoli we can only hope for improvement.
Does getting relegated with 5 games to spare count as a very long or a very short season? Venice look...under water at the moment
I'm not so sure it won't be with 25 games to spare. But Busio crushed any doubts I had about his ability to up his game. If they had 11 players at his level, they'd be much better.

With the exception of the near PK giveaway, he defended well, it seems. Also, I love his adventuresome long balls. I like players who try stuff.
Solid game from him. Bad turnover. But hey it happens to teens sometimes. overall, very evident he’s more of a capable passer than his teammates. they lack any discernible attacking talent. It’s going to be a tough season for them.
I didn’t watch the whole game, only bits and pieces… but I thought Busio showed he belongs in Serie A. Can’t say the same for most of the rest of Venezia’s starting XI
Hey looked like a really classy player aside from the loss of possession that led to the second goal and a couple of pretty bad set pieces. Really like this kid.
TBF, it wasn't a near PK. There was never a doubt on the field, or with the announcers over here. That was always a clean tackle. as he does, he had the position. On replay, the argument might be he was fouled. it goes to a point that Busio is giong to have to adapt to. I don't think Serie A is a more physical league than MLS. MLS can be brutal and is physically a very strong league. But the refs in Serie A are a massive step up from what he's used to. They are always going to play advantage, and being in charge of games full of the absolute masters of the dark arts, they're really excellent at spotting the intentional dragged legs, the shifts, even the pretty crafty dives. He paused a couple times expecting a whistle, and did the SKC thing of running at the ref once (which he really needs to shed from his game, quickly, because yellows and the game goes on).
So, EPB is out, and I think Giovinco is out. Keeping on the theme of US players, maybe make a quick bid for CCV, who isn't going to play much for Spurs, is he? But man, they need a goal scorer, really, really badly. They should make quick bid for Hoppe. Maybe a Euro defender and Hoppe, or CCV and Julian Greene?
CCV is someone who desperately needs a move to someplace where they'll be invested in him. He's not making progress as a footballer and he's an afterthought at Spurs At 5 million plus add-ons, I think Hoppe might be out of their price range
Also, just read up on Henry. He kind of is Hoppe, but 6 years older and with more goals in Europe (same price tag, same size, same favored position and foot). In the attack, they've brought in Henry, who didn't look great last night but he's brand new, a right wing, who looked quick and aggressive, but who knows if he can score at this level and have a leftover at left wing in the Norwegian who looked, uhm, game? I have to admit, I was expecing Busio to take time to bed in, while Tessman (seems wrong without the er) would step in and fight from day one. But he's looked shy so far. Maybe it's a new system and he's confused. They really need Tessmann to step up as a destroyer, and free Busio to do Busio things. Maybe Peretz is okay in the midfield? The guys on the field with Busio were clueless. he was directing traffic. I mean, FFS, he's 19 and he's telling people where they need to be all night long, and they're never in the right place? No one else seems to be up to it. Their back line is a disaster. Maybe Ebuehi adapts and is a step up. He's too new to tell. Ceccerone has lungs and decent speed. Caldara is a reclamation project, was the next big thing in Italian defenders a couple years back, he has to have something to offer but it's not visible yet. Svoboda is out of his class. And the keeper, probably not fair to judge with the hot mess in front of him. To survive, they need to be a lot better in at least 4 positions, and probably 6, and this is assuming Busio can keep playing at that level.
