It's crossed my mind to fly to Vancouver for the US game Jan 30th. I've been in BC place when it's got 50K fans. It would be pretty electric. A quick drive to Whislter and I could get a couple days skiing in too! Sounds like a great family trip. I disguise the trip as a family ski trip. Hey honey, look Canada is playing the US during our ski trip. I think I might go to that!
I just noticed today that the El Salvador-USA match will be on both Paramount+ and CBS Sports Network.
Considering how many borders must be crossed during this international window, this could be a tight timeline indeed. Late-breaking complications for USMNT. https://t.co/cV8JJQ9err— Charles Boehm (@cboehm) August 20, 2021
I did this in other forums and will ask it in this forum. What are your expectations for your team in September? (Not what you want to happen but what you think will happen?) I think the USA will barely beat El Salvador. Clobber Canada. Something like 3-0 in front of a huge crowd in Tennessee. But then just get a point in Honduras.
How's the La Liga and EPL covid lockout gonna affect any CONCACAF side? I assume it affects USA and Jamaica directly
I do not think USA and Jamaica are on the red list of Countries for UK or Spain. I could be wrong though.
As I said in the FIFA forum I think they will force the clubs to play by the rules. But it is interesting to see how this plays out if the clubs do not budge.
Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama are all on the UK's red list. This is a big bonus for Mexico, especially if all the EU leagues make the same decision as the Premier League. Compared to everyone else in CONCACAF, Mexico barely has anyone playing in Europe. With Lozano out and Macias, Jimenez and Guardado all coming off injuries, this ruling will barely have any effect on their squad selection for September. So Mexico essentially has their A squad, and everyone else (particularly Canada, Jamaica and the US) will be forced to travel to Mexico with a B/C squad. I guess this is also a bonus for Costa Rica because they don't have a ton of people in Europe anymore. It's unclear how this will impact Panama. Teams won't be able to bring their A-team to Panama, but Panama has tons of players overseas, often in really random countries/leagues. It's basically a wash for Honduras. They don't have many players on European clubs, but they also aren't on the red list, so teams can bring their A squad to Honduras. El Salvador has no one in Europe, so it doesn't matter for them. Obviously this screws Canada, Jamaica and the US big time.
According to gov.uk, there’s no issue entering the british islands for people with residence rights in UK. We can all agree that CONCACAF NT players are under a work permit residing in UK, so I’m not clear how this can affect Jamaicans and the rest of competitors… Red list rules What you must do if you have been in a country or territory on the red list in the 10 days before you arrive in England. You must follow these rules even if you have been fully vaccinated. If you have been in a country or territory on the red list in the last 10 days you will only be allowed to enter the UK if you are a British or Irish National, or you have residence rights in the UK.
Unless I'm misunderstanding, the Premier League itself said it would not release players going to countries on the red list. FIFA was not happy about this.
The US has a decent solution if we run into this problem with our road games in October/November. Just let the players come back to the US for 10 days to train and then return to England.
Wow the Premier League is not fair neither with Jamaica nor Panama Antonio and Bailey only available against Panama Theodore Whitmore’s squad to face Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica in our September @FIFAWorldCup qualifiers 👊🏿Mexico (A) Sept 2Panama (H) Sept 5Costa Rica (A) Sept 8The players highlighted in black will be available to face Panama 🤩 pic.twitter.com/HITm1Hkk1s— Official J.F.F (@jff_football) August 30, 2021
Apparently the four Spurs/Villa PL players from Argentina will spend 10 days on a Croatian island so they can exercise and train to avoid the hotel quarantine. Probably something Pulisic will have to do (in the US of course) next month.
