Ajax always have trouble against teams managed by Ron Jans. I remember a Beker final against PEC Zwolle some years ago whey they got thrashed!!!
Thankfully Haller didn’t have time to think about that. He might have put it wide or over the bar otherwise! Haha. Expected such a sloppy goal in this ugly match.
That Menig guy got hyped alot last season, while I'm the opinion he's just average. He again today shows he's a headless chicken that runs fast. But hey, maybe he stumbles the ball into the goal today.
I feel like Higler made a mess of this match from early on. Early yellow card and now he’s swallowed his whistle. Found it very inconsistent and I feel like that has contributed to the messy play.
yeah, he’s fast, got a good work rate, lacking in quality. Maybe there’s a place for him on Feyenoord?
How much I dislike how Berghuis jumped ship it's a bit cheap to blame this on him. The whole Ajax team was shit and the irritations flaring up with several Ajax players were the result of that.
The 1-1 draw was a fair result as Ajax were quite frankly awful on the day. Defending on the free kick that resulted in the tying goal was atrocious. Nobody marked Propper who was given a free shot on goal. Stekelenburg seemed slow to react to the shot which a quicker keeper might have saved. Nobody was above average in this match and Gravenberch's reaction to being subbed off didn't help things at all. This team needs to realize that they have to work hard in every game and cannot take anything for granted. Player Ratings: Stekelenburg (5) - too much kicking and most of it quite poor; I don't think he is a #1 keeper any longer Blind (5) - helped create the goal but otherwise his passing was not up to standard Martinez (5.5) - decent enough defending and had a nice header go just wide of the post Timber (5.5) - had a critical intervention that saved a goal Mazraoui (5.5) - one of the better players on the day which isn't saying much Alvarez (5) - had several good defensive plays and had a chance on a free kick Gravenberch (5) - had two good runs with the ball and that was it Klaassen (4.5) - looked very slow out there Tadic (5) - no magic today Haller (5) - alert enough to poke home a garbage goal Berghuis (4) - his days as a starter on the wing are likely over with Antony moving into the starting team; very poor today Antony (5) - good to see him back in the squad but he couldn't make a difference Rensch (5) - had a good defensive intervention Neres (NR) - on late Danillo (5) - on late and gets a rating only because of the late header on goal that was well saved Vitesse coming up next weekend and they have a midweek match against Anderlecht on Thursday that they will have to recover from. Ajax have a lot of problems with this team that EtH has to work through. It looks to me that they really over paid for Haller last season which is causing a lot of issues in terms of high salary demands.
It was a stupid acquisition, paying money for an almost 30 year old winger who is not as good as players already on the team. that point cannot be argued. The only role I can possibly see for him is as a replacement for Klaassen in MF.
Well, about the acquisition being unnecesary we agree, as I mentioned that before the actual buy. I considered it just a buy to weaken an opponent. I guess it backfired as it provided Feyenoord with resources to buy they lacked before.
I would say selling both Brobbery and Traore was a bad decsion as well. Should have kept either one of them. On top of this most of these players have being called up for NT. Lol.
The aging begins to show in vital spots. I saw an untypical Tadic move when Twente stupidly passed the ball in the box to him in the first 20 minutes. Tadic in top form would have spotted the two Ajax players free as "3 little birds" on the top of the 9,15 meter circle ready to bury the ball behind Unnersthal.
Not enough quality in the midfield. Insisting on Alvarez and Klaassen to both start in it will lead to lots of ugly matches. The Haller signing made zero sense at the time (Tadic should be full time 9) and is looking worse by the week. Totally bizarre.
When is the first group stage match for the CL scheduled? It's a bit worrying that Twente was worse than Ajax and still managed to create chances. Time to get ready for the CL matches is running thin.
Both Barca and ManU drew against inferior opposition on the road this weekend. I don't make much of any of this early season stuff. Of course PSV look better as they have been playing CL qualifiers.
I still like it. Ajax have been searching for an extra attacker for quite some time. They had the absolutely awful Babel/Idrissi loans the last couple years. As a 3rd winger, late match sub, starter vs. bad teams, he is a great signing. Remember even if Ajax keep Neres, he is always hurt. He's definitely not good enough to be a sure-fire starter for Ajax. But he's only asked to do that so far because Antony isn't fully back yet.
