he is also emblematic of the way we live now - good players are not going to make the world cup roster and he needs to continue improving to secure a spot.

I was going to post asking the hell he wasn’t starting, but looks like people have some of his opportunities covered pretty well.

Still, he’s got an infectious energy and everyone was saying he changed the match. That’s going to be a feather in his cap for awhile.

Someone made a video on Twitter during his Union days addressing exactly this that was unfortunately deleted but basically the gist was Aaronson is a quality prospect but he doesn’t get on the ball enough. It highlighted plays where he was standing in a good spot, making himself available for his teammate but then would decide to move and “chase the play” putting himself in an opponent’s cover shadow thus taking himself out of the play. One of the reasons he’s better on the wing is because he’s an energizer bunny, he’s not going to help you control the game the way a good CM would. Compare how Musah operates in the middle vs. Aaronson and it’s a clear difference in skillset/mindset. It’s also harder for his opponents to take him out of the game on the wing because he can pop in and out of the middle at different opportune times. Easier to win physical battles against FBs than having to constantly battle CBs and Dmids

Good point. I always though his future would ultimately be as a midfielder. I'm not sure how things will play out if/when Konrad evolves into a top rated true winger.

"The Medford Messi" is tops and should immediately replace "The American Havertz", and in perpetuity, in his club thread.

    Seems like the suggestion of
The Medford Messi: Brenden Aaronson at RB Salzburg

is getting a lot of love. @bungadiri what do you say?

I think the “Medford Messi” is offensive. It’s sacrilegious to compare Aaronson to Messi.

Why can’t we have something respectful and uncontroversial? Say, “Medford Messiah.”

Salzburg winning 3-1, looks like he will go the full 90 and was overall invisible with a bad Fotmob rating. Looks to be set for another sub appearance Wednesday in the CL. Thank god he had a good outing last time in the CL with a goal, that is something he can hang his hat on and all we can hope is that he has another good sub appearance.

He definitely needs to get on the ball more, but really watching him play I am confused by what he does versus what he needs to do. I had this question since he was with the Union but really, he plays like a second forward. Constantly on the CBs and looking to run behind. He is not playing like a 10 who is being told to drop and get the ball to start attacks.

I know even Curtin has mentioned he needs to get more touches in games. Now, is Aaronson just ignoring both pro coaches he has ever had and playing like the striker he wants to be? Or is it tactics? Is it a mixture of both extremes?

I just don't know because he plays like he is being told to make runs behind, I never see him drop deeper for the ball when Salzburg are in possession. So something has to be going on there.

I have no experience playing or coaching the game, only watching, so I really dont know whats going on.

Right. If he played like the Messiah he’d do his best work on crosses.

Didn't think we would get an all touches video for this game but here it is.

Still scrappy, seems to be bodying up more often and got a few calls, and didn't get some calls he maybe should have. Still shows that when he does get the ball he usually has a good first touch and knows what to do with it. Just needs more consistency and another 6 months in the weight room.
