My one complaint (you know me, I always have something) ... another horrible start to a game. We will eventually play a team that will make us pay for that because there are better teams in MLS than what we played last night.

I thought exactly the same thing when I was looking at the standings last night...and guess what...our only remaining match against a Western Conference team is the next to last game of the year, at home, against Colorado. 13 games left in the regular season, lots of big games to go, lots of scoreboard watching to be done. But depending on how things shake out the rest of the way, that game has the potential to be absolutely massive.

I thought that Turner looked tired and just a little off last night. He came up with some good saves but to me he appeared to be struggling. Nice to have a keeper who can play at that level while struggling. I would not mind seeing him get a rest. Especially right now while knighton has been playing and does not have the rust he showed in his first game.

I liked Traustason in that spot on the field. He has looked like a different player since he finally scored. At least he looked like he was trying as apposed to Kaptoum. Maciel was somewhere between the two. Kaptoum almost looked like he has checked out. How can that be on a team doing so well? I would much rather see Scotty in that role.

It has been great to see Jones's confidence grow during this season. He was very good last night.

Bou was tracking back more than usual. Maybe he was trying to make up for the hole in the center of the field.

Buksa was a force to be dealt with when he came in. I have never seen a more unlucky striker.

Boetang should be used more in exactly the role he had last night. The speed that he and Tajon added to the wings changed the game.

Farrell and Kessler physically controlled the DC strikers until Abila came in. He planted himself on Farrell and Andrew had a tough time with him. He took advantage of AJ for that goal. What a great shot.

It also appears that the team has reached a point where they can survive Gil's absence, at least for a little while

It was nice to see Rivera on the bench. His has earned it with his play and it is great to see Bruce show him that it has been recognized.

It has been a long time since I have had this feeling about a REVs team. I like having it again.

One can very much enjoy the team's great and good moments that are putting them at top of the league --

-- and ALSO still acknowledge the weak spots that could stand shoring up.

Addressing those remaining gaps are what gets a team to the level of "Institutionalized Dominance".

That's the sort of team Boston sports fans are used to.

Maciel was the worst rev on the field last night and it wasnt close. Talk about nonchalant on the goal, he got caught badly

Kaptoum and Teal were also very bad, teal routinely passing to no one and Wilf being just a warm body in midfield. Removing all 3 made a huge difference.

I thought de la had a good game. Yes he was a little slow recovering on the goal, but he created all the danger in the 1st half, with 3 inch perfect crosses. Arnie put his free header wide, and Teal stopped his run weirdly and ended up not quite getting to his, but overall DLG showed he can offer positive contributions as the back up RB.

It will be interesting to see how Bruce sets up our CM in the next game. With Caicedo and Polster injured, Arnie on a red, and Maciel and Wilf putting in pathetic performances in consecutive games it really just leaves Tommy and Scotty and I dont think Scotty is a 90 minute player anymore.

I was thinking the same thing last night. He had a sure goal, only to have it cleared off the line by Birnbaum. Another shot from in close gets blocked and he runs over the end line, the ball ends up bouncing around and coming back towards goal off a defender. If he had just recovered sooner he would have had an easy tap in.

I dont think Arena has any use for Scotty except as a destroyer when needed. I also think thats too bad cause I like him better than those two sorry excuses Arena gave the hook to at half time. I also dont understand Arena's dislike for Boateng either. He is so damn fast DC could not stop him. His crosses put mids rated higher to shame (he great) Why not bring him in late in the game to run at a tired team? We'll see if he plays again. He should

Glad someone else mentioned Teal. I've never been a big fan of his but he was terrible last night. Constantly giving the ball away and fluffing opportunities. I hope we never see him start a game again.

Also agree about Boateng. He's been impressive each time he's played. Would love to see more of him.

It really was a huge turnaround in the second half. It's great to have a skillful and entertaining team to root for again. I'm thoroughly enjoying seeing they play this season. What a sharp contrast to the pre-Arena, Brad Friedel era!

Agree totally. I'm not sure if we'll get the defense any more sorted, so the best defense for us is a great offense. Just be sure to outscore the opposition and things will work out.

In his after game comments, it seemed like Bruce was getting his teeth pulled when asked to say something nice about Boateng. He sure wasn't going along with suggestions of more playing time despite Emma being a major spark. Is he just channeling his Belichickian tendencies or do they have some kind of negative history?

I'd guess its just Bruce being Bruce. Some things he hates to talk about: any goals other than making the playoffs; any comparison with other years or other teams; any decisions about playing time; anything about formations; anything about injuries.

Speaking of which, does anyone know anything about Bye and why he wasn't on the game day roster Wednesday. I'd ask Bruce myself, but you know . . .

On the broadcast Wednesday night, they said Bye was given the night off. So I assumed - I know bad - that he just had the night off.

Thanks. I missed that. I'm sure he could use a night off . . . Farrell could probably use a night off too, although that might have to wait until Bell is ready to go.

Who is this Boateng guy? He's been buried on the bench all season. Then comes in and gives a MOTM performance.

Well, there's some criticism implied with such a question, and Arena is probably a bit defensive about that. And since the team has done nothing recently but win, maybe he should be.

Boateng got some looks earlier in the season and didn't do much with them. Much to his credit, he came in with a bang and played a great half. He showed great ability to get off earlier crosses and less predictable ones. He seems to have a real skill for getting off a quality cross when heading parallel or even towards the near touchline, whereas most players need to have their body turned at least slightly towards the goal. I thought that allowed him to get crosses off quicker, so they were less likely to be blocked by the first defender and gave the central defenders less time to anticipate the cross,

Yes, Maciel looked strangely sluggish in this one and was justifiably yanked. But, I think he's had a lot of really good play this year and I was glad to see Arena go back to him last game (vs. Cincy).

Kaptoum is a different enigma. He seems to be a guy in search of a position. He doesn't seem to be a dmid or box-to-box mid, has some creativity and class as a distributer, but also isn't a wing either. I think he would pair well with Gil, but that is probably giving up too much size/iron defensively to have them both out there. I think Arena's struggling to find a way to use him.

The story of this game IMO was that Arena went a little too far resting starters. There's a critical mass of first-string cohesion and if you disrupt that too much with changes, things break down. Arena course corrected and subs came in like they were shot out of a cannon!

I also think that Arena is holding back Tajon. Maybe he's got a chip on his shoulder, well aware that his stock is booming and that he'll soon be elsewhere. Hopefully he's taking counsel from Arena, because that should serve him well wherever he ends up next. The situation reminds me a lot of Nicol/Dempsey - I think Stevie realized that Dempsey had a very high ceiling early on and did his best to instill a pro mindset in him while he still had some influence.

What are you talking about? He's had 5 total appearances this year. His 1st appearance against Toronto he was a key cog in the revs attempted comeback from down 3-0 and had the primary assist on the revs 2nd goal. That game was on July 8th. Since then he has 3 more sub appearances and the start against FCC and is up to 1 goal and 3 assists on the year (a contribution every 43 minutes he's been on the field).

There never was a some looks earlier in the season, and clearly he's been productive everytime he's take. The field.

    Terrible take

I include pre-season and I was particularly unimpressed then (I thought he looked slow - and I was shocked by that). Against Toronto, he made a very nice cross when left wide open - I give him that. When he subbed in against DC, he totally changed the game and he was good again (with a nice finish off Tajon's feed) against Cincy.

I guess Arena and I will just have to disagree with you.
