I checked last night as well after seeing the posts here and did not see the placeholder. One thing that is weird is that the CBSSports preview of tomorrow's Celtic/Midtjylland Champions League match doesn't mention the SPL being on Paramount+. Not that it has to mention this, but if you read the article it almost reads like an ad for their coverage of the Champions League. It would have been easy to add a line, "For all you Scottish football fans, Paramount will be airing SPL leagues this season..." https://www.cbssports.com/soccer/ne...efa-champions-league-predictions-for-july-28/
The thing that potentially sucks about the SPL situation is that it looks like (from World Soccer Talk) they are playing some matches on CBS Sports Network. They aren't listed as being on Paramount +. I won't be annoyed if you can watch the CBS SN matches on replay with your Paramount + account, but I am not a fan of this "split ticket" scheme. That was the one drawback of ESPN+--if a match was broadcast on the cable channels it wouldn't usually be available on demand.
Truth. They want casual fans to stumble upon it *and* they know the die-hards will pay for the apps. What they do is put the big names on TV, as that'll boost ratings, but they can put smaller games on apps. Everyone knows that Celtic and Rangers will draw eyeballs, but what about Ross County vs St. Mirren? Put that on the app. It's the same with the EPL or any other league. Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and maybe 1-2 others get eyeballs...but those 18v20 and 15v17 matchups won't draw as high ratings.
I have only read about Paramount+ having the rights in Australia. Unsure if their strategy is to stream it into other markets.
One thing that drove me nuts about Paramount is that they started the game right at kick-off instead of showing the walk-out and discussing lineups and then they ended exactly at the final whistle. I liked that they skipped half-time so there was only about 60 seconds of commercials to sit through. The UEFA Super Cup included a full half-time so that meant sitting through multiple sets of commercials even if fast-forwarding through the content. I'm watching this on delay so will see if the stream ends right when the game ends or if there is any kind of discussion (including a trophy celebration).
CBS announced their Coppa Italia and Serie A schedule through August. Udinese vs Juventus and Genoa vs Napoli will air on CBS Sports Network/Paramount+. All the other games will be on Paramount+. Also, CBS Sports’ full Serie A studio coverage from New York beginning on Sunday, Sept. 12, airing on CBS Sports Network and streaming on Paramount+. CBS Sports HQ will provide pre- and post-match and halftime coverage through the first two weeks of Serie A action starting on Saturday, Aug. 21. CBS Sports Network will also feature standalone programming including preview and highlight shows throughout the season. https://www.viacomcbspressexpress.com/cbs-sports/releases/view?id=58038
No trophy celebration from the Super Cup. I need to pay closer attention to broadcast schedules to use CBSN for live games and then deal with Paramount+ for on demand delayed content.
I hope they consider doing an Italian Golazo type whip around show that shows live goals like they do for Champions.
I could be wrong but outside of the first few weeks I think Serie A is going to a one game per time slot schedule. So the whip around show wouldn't be needed if that was the case.
They normally have multiple games on Sundays at 9 am ET. Because of the pandemic, they did not have many last year, but they may go back to that schedule at some point.
They’ll be having pre and post game in studio shows along with a half-time show for each game that airs on CBS Sports Network. As for air times. Serie A has been looking to spread them out more making them more palatable for people in Asia, where their ratings are growing.
https://www.transfermarketweb.com/s...lots-for-next-season-s-games-announced-214410 That's what I getting for the time slots.
If the time slots are staggered then maybe CBS Sports Network can just have a highlight show like NBC does for goal zone.
Serie A has always played its first few rounds of games before the early September international break in the evening because of the heat. Next week they have a pair of games in the 1830 and 2045 GMT slots on both Saturday and Sunday with one each in those slots on Monday. The only time slot once they get back to regular times which regularly has multiple matches is the 1500 GMT Sunday (9AM Eastern) window, and that's usually only about 4 at a time with most involving the less glamorous teams so I doubt they'll be doing any kind of simulcast or whiparound.
Weird have the River vs Velez replay on the commentary is in Spanish. I thought paramount was English rights?
You all know how Netflix and Disney+ (and probably other services) have an option to "skip intro?" When it comes to archived games, it shouldn't be too hard to give about 2-3 minutes of pregame for lineups and all that with a "click here to go to kickoff" option. Am I right though?
