MATCHDAY GUIDE | Everything you need to know ahead of Revs at Toronto FC (August 14, 2021) By Elizabeth Pehota revolutionsoccer.net
Revs keep grinding out victories, though they never seem to dominate. I hope Polster is okay, but that didn't look good. He's been a super-important player for the Revs this year.
If you had to pick a game to show what was different about the Revs in the Arena era, this was it. Even when Toronto scored, I felt the Revs were likely to score again. The back line (other than for the 20 seconds in which TFC scored) was great, especially Bye. Buksa worked so hard. I hope Polster is OK. I feel like he is really starting to make a positive difference.
Well well well, no Carles Gil for 3 games, and the Revs are 2 - 0 - 1. Who would have thunk!! I thought the Revs played really well in the first half. After the Polster injury, they got a little disjointed with the subs. Let's hope it's not too serious. My one concern is when the Revs score first, they take the foot a little off the gas. But then when the other team ties them it's a full assault to score again. So far it's worked, but I would like for them to push for a second goal a little harder before the other team scores.
Totally agree, I hate when the revs take their foot off the gas, just put the game out of reach. Did anyone else notice a drop off in play from Manciel? His touch seemed sloppy last night and his passes weren't very accurate. He made some nice line breaking passes, but his possession play in the mid scarred me a bit...
yes we have depth and yes we find ways to win. What we dont do is generate many shots. The first goal was a good one but we needed a PK to win. What other shots did we have? Arena needs to keep signing people and we really need a top level scorer not named Buska. Buska works hard and is useful but is not a proficient scorer. We also could use a true attacking CM that can create offense. We dont really have that but need that. Also I think we should be looking for life after Farrell. He is nearing the end I think and better to prepare than to be caught flat footed. Maybe its Kessler but we need another too
I thought they were sloppy and fortunate last night. I'll take it, but I hope to see better from them at home in the next two. It will be tough without Gil and Polster. They do have depth as we've discussed many times, but there eventually comes a tipping point. So far they've done well to avoid a negative impact on results from absences. They're going to have to keep that up. An aside: This Supporter's Shield race is presenting many new emotional swings. Having every game be so meaningful has me feel like every game day is like a playoff game.
We had 10 shots, but only 2 on goal. We're currently fourth in the league in total shots, and 2nd in shots on goal. So we're getting chances, but our finishing has to be better (yet, we're the highest scoring team in the league). To the actual game ... man, I hope Polster's OK. His reaction implied he might be done for the season, but we'll see. The response after giving up the goal was fantastic to see. The old Revs bunker to try and take a point. This team, just 4 minutes after giving up the tying goal, took the lead back. Seriously, every game that Tajon plays for us is just raising his price tag.
Thanks for a dose of this. I keep seeing comments about how we need to generate more offense or score more or Buksa needs to finish better. Best offense in the league with the assist leader, golden boot candidate, and another player in the top 10 for goals should indicate our offense is doing just fine overall.
