If it’s true, it’s a good move given that it’s a 1st division. Still would’ve been better had he joined a Spanish team, even if it was Huesca.

I’m just as on board as anyone here with the idea of our guys making the jump to Europe early.

But a 1 year loan with an option to buy @ Newcastle is a joke for an underdeveloped 18 year-old who’ll probably spend that first year learning the ropes.

If the alternative is that he stays getting shunned by HIS club and playing in the U20 team.... I'll take the year of intensive training and networking.

The reason Santos buried him is precisely because he’s forcing his way out.

More than anything, it seems like he’s backed himself up against a wall here.

It should bulk him up. How many years does he have left on his contract?

It must be a 1 year loan with an obligation to buy otherwise why the heck would Santos make that deal...

Was gonna say it’s both…dude wants out. Santos is like well we can’t have you here if you don’t want to be here. Gotta move on. I’d bet money that he’ll succeed. I think he’s that good. He’s played and learned from some very good strikers for a while also. I’m excited for him.

So he should bend over and eat the new contract like so many other players have done only to inevitably waste their chance?
You're right, he did do this to himself, but he's trying to make himself a better player instead of mediocrity in the LigaMX or MLS. This needs to continue to happen so that teams will instead do like Pumas with Johan and take smaller cuts while retaining partial ownership instead of asking the 15 million like MTY wanted for Pizarro.

This is a huge transfer, Rio Ave have been a decent 1st Division team up until last season. Highly anticipated to move back to 1st division next year.
