I'm beginning to worry about Stengs. He seems to zone in and out of matches as has been noted. One of the reasons AZ did not threaten this year was he did not perform as well as in the pandemic shortened season of 2019-20.

Kluivert needs to find the right club and manager to reach his potential. I guess he moves back to Roma now which may not be good for his career. He really should have stayed at Ajax for 2-3 more seasons. If you are good the money always comes, if you move too early you end up mediocre.

Stengs has so much darn potential. Too bad it’s wasted on a lazy and uninterested player like himself. He has that very needed ability for the NT of finding that hole in defense to give that final pass. Why does he insist on being like this?

I mean, I’m certain he reads and hears the criticisms every week culminating in his omission from the NT. You’d think he’d use that as fuel to prove everyone wrong, but nope... SMH. Both him and Ihattaren have been wasting away by being stupid.

No doubt, there is something wrong with Stengs, mentally/psychologically speaking. He looked unmotivated, disinterested and disjointed. He looked like he didn't want to be on the pitch to begin with. Maybe it was the disappointment of not selected into the Senior squad... who knows.

That said, tactically, I wonder why Stengs was not deployed more centrally as an attacking midfielder. He had some success playing behind the attacking three at AZ, and I really think this is his natural position given his ability to create plays and spray passes.

There was no orchestrator and zero creativity in J.O, that would have been a perfect role for Stengs! In hindsight, a better midfield could be something like Harroui/Matusiwa, De Wit (because he has the captain armband o_O), and Stengs. Shift jack-off-all-trade Kadioglu out wide, or have a specialist like Dilrosun.

Stengs in the RW is just totally odd to me. He doesn't have the speed and explosiveness to take on his defenders (no thanks to the injuries he suffered a couple seasons ago). Yesterday his tendencies hugging the sidelines was a complete madness. I don't know if this was by design or by his own doing. It was so easy to take him out... the moment a second defender surrounded him, he was completely done and had to surrender possession. Over and over again. Ugh.

Again, disappointed by Stengs overall. Hope he get back on his feet and pick up himself. I still think he has plenty to offer, if he figure this thing out soon. Shifting to an (attacking) playmaker role centrally would be what I'd love to see going forward to take advantage of his skillset.

If he can master this, he will have a long-term job at Oranje. Gini and Klaassen won't be around too long. Stengs' age perfectly fits with that of Frenkie de Jong and Gravenberch... the two foundational pillars of Oranje in the next several years.

Completely disappointed with Jong Oranje squad yesterday. Lack of speed and work rate was evident. Defending was horrendous. Guys getting pulled out and lack of covering all over the place.
Very little running and support play. Lack of creativity between the lines.
Kluivert worked really hard but not much else to say about anyone else.
Botman and Schuurs just lumbering and slow.
Boadu and De Wit were piss poor.
De Wit popping up all over but his touch and control were pitiful.
Midfield lacking in quality and zero vision.
Stengs and Botman very bad body language I thought when being subbed off.
    Why? What have the achieved?
Stengs is utter shite right now.
Better figure it out or his career is done.

Looks like Brobbey made the wrong decision in moving to RB Leipzig. Not only is the trainer he hoped to work with gone, but they announced today they bought Portugal #9 Andre Silva in from Eintracht Frankfurt on a hefty salary. Brobbey will be lucky to get off the bench. Should have stayed at Ajax and shared time with Haller.

These players never learn, do they? It's a joke when they say they're leaving for "playing time" or "opportunity" or any of that. They are leaving for the money and the perceived fame. They over evaluate themselves and they want to make a shitload of money quick.

Wow... a new batch of young cubs!! Several new names I am not familiar yet.

Surprised that Botman and Bakker are here. I would have guessed they were past the u21 cutoff age... I guess not

Well, too bad. Harroui seems to have a decent potential... don't think he'll ever be the Oranje NT foundation, or crack the starting XI on regular basis. But probably would have got random occasional call up's had he stayed with Oranje.

Still no news on Ihattaren? Boy... he's disappearing fast!

Here is the Jong Oranje team:

Ajax 3rd keeper Jay Gorter made the cut. I've watched him play both in the pre-season and for Jong Ajax. He has good reflexes and ball skills. He's not in Bijlow's league but obviously one to watch for the future. Lots of players who were on the cusp of being called up the the full NT.

The midfield is young and untested… a huge drop from Koopmeiners, Harroui, De Wit, etc era. Reis had some experience, I think he will be the leader of the bunch.

The attack has no wide players..?

And what happens to the goalie Scherpen? Really like his potential. And I know he has moved to England. Will he stay relevant?

De Wit was never any good as he is just a big #10 with mediocre ball handling skills. Quentin Timber may be an interesting player now that he moved to Utrecht. Taylor is very good and almost on the cusp of getting regular first team minutes at Ajax. His development is important in that Gravenberch probably leaves next summer.

I noticed that as well. I wonder if Kluivert is over age now.

Good question. Ajax let him go, feeling that Gorter is a better prospect.

  19. From the English U17 thread I learned the Orange U17 is in a Final against them.
    ???

No clue. According to the UEFA site, they are in qualifiers: https://www.uefa.com/under17/

EDIT: Netherlands and Spain get a bye from the Group Stage. Israel host and are automatically in the final round.

Jong orange also had a strong start to their campaign beating Moldova 3-0. Van Der Looi started with 3 strikers, Zirkzee, Brobbery, boadu. Maatssen , Ki Jana, Redan, Fofana all featured of the bench.

I saw bits and pieces of the Jong Oranje match away to Switzerland. they were behind 2-0 and Zirkzee had two goals within 10 minutes to even the score. Botman was beaten several times in the match and it was difficult to figure out what kind of formation van der Looi had them playing. On paper it was a 4-4-2 but Botman was often the lone deep defender. First Swiss goal came when Brobbey went off injured and Dutch were playing with 10 against 11. Second goal was Botman's fault as he was badly beaten.
