Twitter rumors are that Sorga is on his way out to The Netherlands on loan as a result of this signing.

I’d rather see Sorga get the playing time that Kamala got earlier when he wasn’t scoring. As a player and average athlete, it was pretty clear even in jr high that there’s a big difference between performing well in practice and performing well in games or matches. Yes, working hard in practice makes you better, but being in actual games builds you even more. So now, we’re getting another cast off.

Who's Kamala? Do you mean Kamara? There's really not much of a point this season where Kamara was playing where he wasn't scoring. And Sorga was injured after starting the first three games so Kamara didn't take any playing time from Sorga anyway.

All of this is to say Kamara >> Sorga, and Sorga shouldn't be seeing the field over Kamara.

That’s okay with me. Best of luck to him.
No better place for a forward to go to get back on track.

Wasn't Sorga just back in Estonia supposedly finalizing paperwork for a greencard or something - so he wouldn't count as an international player on DCU's roster.

I assume a loan to the Netherlands would nix those plans or is that incorrect?

But is an apparently out-of-shape Abila better than an in-shape (and much younger) Sorga? Maybe it's the Argentine connection. Oh well, if Abila contributes and Sorga gets regular playing time I guess it could be a win-win.

in general, to retain LPR status one must be physically present in the US for at least 180 days per year. So a loan could cause challenges for him but then again the rules might be slightly different for performers and athletes.....

It seems like Losada has determined that Kamara is a key to our success. He's a traditional 9, but with good technical skills (ok, his pass reception is inconsistent, but otherwise, he can pass well and make space for himself) that can also play across the front, between the lines, read the game, makes smart and unselfish runs, and is a reliable scorer.

I'm looking around the locker room and not seeing a Kamara analogue, and I'm sure Losada is doing the same. Robertha is the closest, but he's injured, and still young in the game, and it shows in those moments when he gets on the ball in the box or makes predictable vertical runs. I think Abila is that analogue. He's shown all the above qualities, even if he hasn't been a good scorer in his short stint here. The fact that we're bringing in this guy, whose main issue has apparently been fitness, says a lot about Losada's desperation for the kind of player he is.

Sorga's move is just a casualty of MLS's international player slots and policy, which needs an upgrade. That said, the package seems to me to be at least a break-even, if not a win for all parties.

Maybe Losada will be able to push Abila to elevate his game and make him into a player we want to bring back... He's a wizard, and it seems he's already done the same with the team at his disposal, when you look at Gressel, Najar, BHI, Perez, Alfaro...

Kamara lost his green card when he went to China briefly in 2019.

I'm going to be 100% honest with you, Sorga going away was apparent from a mile away and Robertha leaving this club sooner than we think is also pretty apparent. My guess is that Robertha will go back to Europe on his own accord or with our nudging. I'm cautiously optimistic about Abila because I can tell he will just be a sub in for a late game situation. We run ourselves ragged in the first 65 minutes and don't play as hard of a press in the last 25, so we'll probably just use Abila as a super sub or something.

I thought I remembered this club as being Earnie Stewart's at one time and looking it up to verify found out that Earnie is 52.

I think a spell in the Dutch Second Division is a good move. The guy at a young age was brought from what is a semi-pro league and expected to be in competition to the tip of the spear. That was magical thinking by the FO. See how he peforms in a lesser league, but a professional one, and see if he's worth keeping around. Think of guys like Dane Kelly, who DCU had for one season, that have torn up the USL, but can't translate that production to MLS. Finding good forwards is hard. This year Kamara has stepped up his game, but a bad run of form is never far from anyone not named Messi.

Portland Timbers just announced that all fans 12 and older must either be vaccinated or show proof of a negative Covid test to attend games starting August 25. Toronto FC is instituting a similar policy next month.

I imagine it's a matter of time before United (and other local teams, as the Raiders are doing the same for their home games in Las Vegas) follow suit.

I would not pay much attention to what the Canadian teams do as Canada is handling Covid differently than the US. But a US based club like Portland could signal a change in policy.

That would effect me for LAFC matches but I'm not going to events like this until all of my kids are vaccinated. So hopefully it works and we get out of the delta spike sooner rather than later.

According to an email from my ticket rep, DC United has listened to fan feedback and have moved the kickoff times for their remaining 4 Wednesday home games from 8 PM to 730 PM.

    This impacts the following games:

    - Wednesday, Sept. 15 vs. Chicago Fire (Kickoff Time: 7:30PM)

    - Wednesday, Sept. 29 vs. Minnesota United (Kickoff Time: 7:30PM)

    - Wednesday, Oct. 20 vs. New England (Kickoff Time: 7:30PM)

    - Wednesday, Oct. 27 vs. New York Red Bulls (Kickoff Time: 7:30PM)

in that same message the team announces the following:
We will be in touch with more details pertaining to your 2022 member benefits and encourage you to be on the lookout for your 2022 renewal information coming the week of August 30.

Renewal starting MUCH earlier than before - I guess they want to ride the current wave of (mostly) positive results....
