I would say that starting against Bayern would be the craziest league start debut in Yanks history but…Lynden Gooch debuted for Sunderland on opening day out of absolutely nowhere against Man City nearly 5 years ago to the day.

18 year old Josh Perez making his debut at the San Siro against Inter Milan is an interesting one too

I don’t rate Yedlin as high as many do now but yeah, he should be on the list

Yedlin is one of three USMNT players under 31 who has played in a World Cup and he has over 100 EPL games.

His experience is not something to be dismissed, especially with a young team.

According to a few German newspapers, he is likely to start at left back today vs Bayern. Good luck to the kid!

This game is one my most interesting yanks abroad games this weekend. I really think scally can cement himself as a viable bundesliga fullback as an 18 year old. Let’s go Joe

FREE-TV coverage this evening, so Scally will make himself known to whole soccer-Germany at once! poignantly and for a long time I hope ;-)

K‘lautern identified him as a potential weak spot and tested him several times, mostly in person of Zimmer (a former Bundesliga player) … lack of experience (age/position/formation/chemistry) showed but overall he did very well and also contributed to offense

the thing is: today it will be Sané or Gnabry or Coman (maybe two of them alternating) who is/are slipping into the Zimmer-role: as an 18-year old who is playing his first Bundesliga match I would say: Huh!?! it basically means being thrown in at the deep end (with stones attached to your legs ;-)...
normally I would think he should be backed by a defensively capable ‚frontman‘ but I can‘t see an ideal solution for this job at the moment

both teams are weakened by injuries (Scally‘s chance) and are not ‚geling‘ very well because some key players are only in training for a few days… most think it‘s better to face B*yern early in the season

what I hear Scally is ‚clear‘ between the ears (eager to learn, able to adjust quickly & focused) which is key to make it big… today is a good day to start, Joe!

WOW. Guess he had a good preseason. Let's hope he's up to the standards. Chris Richards sits on the opposite bench.

This is quite a remarkable rise, from being buried in the reserves/youth teams to starting on opening weekend against Bayern Munich, at 18 years old. Good on the kid -- pretty exciting to see as an American soccer fan.

The kid is not phased taking on stars like Lewo.
He looks like another USA player of years past...

    He looks like Harks.

He played a very good first half against Bayern. The announcer said he was MOTM for the 1st half. Pretty crazy. olephill2 has the right of it... This is a pretty remarkable rise. The kid didn't play much at all in the MLS... then goes to Germany and is doing well in a starting role to begin the season. At any rate... saying he is the best LB we have is a bit premature IMO... but it isn't a very deep position for us and he certainly has the talent to be the guy there if his arrow continues to point north. Really hoping he can follow that half up with another good one. CMon... Scally... Make it a grand graduation day!

He is actually a RB. I think he would do just fine as a CDM as well.

    He did good today.
Is only one game. He has two more games before GB decides who to invite
