We had two Offside calls negate goals. The plural of Offside is Offsides. Moral of the story -- your wrong. Yes, I did that on purpose.
And another thing; Diaz was not offside. Not, not, not. I've watched it now a dozen times, and in slow motion it's clear that he times his break perfectly. The problem is that he's so fast. In a split second he's clear by a couple feet and it LOOKS a lot like he's off. The guy I was with last night, who is never wrong about this stuff, said he was off "by a mile, no question at all" But he was not. He's just really, insanely fast. At the time Nagbe touches the pass, he's not off, he's not even, he's on by like a foot. It's glaring. He was not offside.
This team has no heart, no grit, no fight, no rhythm, no cohesiveness, no chance of making the playoffs or giving us a home playoff match. Our grit players (Artur, Aidan, Josh) are all hurt and we are screwed. If they told us we can’t go to matches anymore due to COVID spike and I’d start getting refunds on my tickets id be ok with that.
Unless you have a strong stomach I advise anyone not to watch Porters postgame media chat. It's simply insulting. They played well. We just aren't getting the breaks now. Things just aren't going our way. The breaks of the game. Great effort. Team left it all on the field. Let's not lose sight of how well they're playing. Every moronic cliche in the book. He's proud of the team. Working hard just need to clean up a few mistakes. He needs to be committed.
Its just odd. Look at the stats. Atlanta was either better or equal for the entire game. Facts and stats don’t lie.
Help me out here but I don't get the management of this team... be it from the coach or from the on field communication but no one wants to dribble the ball into the box. watch it ... as soon as they get to the box, they pass it out and around... what happens when other teams get into the box, they get a PK or score a goal against us... Zelrayan, Mattan, Diaz, Ettienne should all try to get into the box then work their magic.... Also, look at our formation when on offense, it's basically a circle with 3 in the middle. However, our most forward person in the middle is in the middle with two others lagging behind him. Thus, when the ball does go forward, there is no-one there to swing the pass to. Review DC and ATL, both use similar formations but when they get down the field, they have two attacking midfields in the attacking portion of the circle and 1 who stays in the middle I'm just shocked our coaches can't see this or maybe they do and we don't have players who can understand it..... it's all about the GameIQ and I'm not seeing it in the offense (outside Zelrayan)
Yeah, the stadium is terrible about not showing replays or acknowledging opponent goals. Since the wifi wasn't working game 1, I had to wait until it was home to find out it was Bou who scored NE's second goal. It's so FCC. They should just say who scored and assisted on the opponent goal and show it if we have a breakdown. Not Baghdad Bob it.
The Soccer Gods aren't smiling on us at the moment. I figured we would lose as soon as I saw Afful in the lineup. After his disaster vs NYC, I didn't expect to see him out there if we had any alternatives. Also though both PKs give to Atlanta were very soft. Mensah clears the ball on the first one. Crew could have been awarded a penalty just before Etienne's offside goal.
I don't think anyone's mentioned that the second penalty came after a bad touch from Mensah, either. If that ball doesn't get away from him, that scoring chance is over and there is no penalty. I said after he scored the goal that it would be a boost for his confidence. Apparently, he's a hat trick away from being confident enough.
Having thought about it a bit this morning, what bothered me about the way the match was called was that he let almost everything outside of the box go uncalled, but called everything in the box. That runs contrary to the traditional observation we often hear that a play would have been a foul outside of the box, but isn't quite worthy of a PK. And yes, the first one was quite clearly a penalty, and the second one did seem soft, as many here seem to agree. But why the outright refusal - as with the Diaz un-goal - to even take a second look?
Why does everyone still insist that if the referee doesn't go to the monitor, they "didn't take a second look?"
Leaving aside that Felipe and Paredes did next to nothing, you missed that Bill Hamid got injured fifteen minutes into the game. Columbus reject and career third-choice goalkeeper Jon Kempin then played out the final 80 minutes and was hardly tested outside of the 10-15 minute stretch after Porter finally subbed on Zardes. Reyna then scored DC's fourth against lazy defending and the entire Crew team quit and gave Kempin the rest of the night off. Like last night, there were plenty of opportunities for Columbus players to cut into the top of the box and put shots on frame. Columbus had 70% of the possession against DC. But also like last night, no one was willing to actually try to take their shot. Lots of standing around, passing it around the perimeter of the box, and waiting for someone else to do something. That lack of effort in front of home fans after getting drubbed in their previous outing is as inexcusable as last night.
Or, What a coach says to the media is primarily aimed at what they believe the team needs to hear. I think its more likely that Porter is more afraid of the teams confidence level rather than a lack of effort. I don't think he is out of touch, rather he's managing. I see the team's lack of confidence in their glacially slow play, particularly during transition. They are getting caught watching and not able to pressure the ball during defensive transition, and are to slow to break and move the ball forward during offensive transition. Thus they relay on playing the ball backwards and regrouping. Drove me nuts on Saturday, that whenever we got a turnover, everyone stood relatively still instead of making dangerous runs.
Can we all agree that preaching "patience" with the ball to the team has spectacularly backfired? These guys are too scared to try anything.
I absolutely agree, but I would add that it seems to me that they really don't have any "ideas" as the announcers like to say. The strategy on Saturday was simply to launch balls downfield and hope that Gyassi would be on the end of them. When that didn't work they had no other plan, in which case they gave it to LZ somewhere in the middle third and everybody stands around and admired his ball skills as he evaded 2,3 or 4 opponents until he lost the ball. Otherwise, the "attack" ran down the right touchline - the left side was a dead zone, due at least in part to the 15 yard hot zone (hot trench?) that Molino was jogging up and down in, looking for all the world like he was totally lost and confused. Someone explain to me how this isn't bad coaching.
Completely agree with your post. I just want to add that Molino is the worst offender here. The attack dies with him. He's not showing quickness or the ability to hustle. So far a giant bust--I'm just not seeing the effort from him. Matan, Diaz, and Etienne need to improve, but at least they all show effort and ideas.
