I think Detroit is a huge long shot at this point. I see Vegas and Phoenix ahead of them.
Meh, MLS and possible owners won't care about an annoyingly loud minority not wanting MLS. If a team went to Detroit, they would be assimilated into the new SGs that form, or just not go. Not a big loss.

The borough boys didn't want NYCFC either. Now they basically dont exist and NYCFC had a very successful launch (although support has waned since year 1, it had nothing to do with the borough boys)

what is currently the latest out of vegas? It is the one that seems the most likely to spring something into action in a very quick period of time. But what is the deal with Phoenix? they seem to have San Antonio syndrome where they claim they want it but arent really doing anything about it. Practically nothing publicly (frankly, even less so than San Antonio).

It is a little disappointing to not see any previous candidate city, even a supposed outlier, jump at the chance to throw their hat in the ring immediately. You would think an owner/group with any ambition would say "here we are, we are ready to go right now, lets make this happen". No one, not even Vegas, has done that yet regrettably. The only thing we have heard was Sacramento saying that theyre going to sort this out. Whether they do or not, that they are the only one making public overtures to MLS has got to be disappointing to prospective candidate cities.

Youd think there would have been at least one predatory prospective owner in the aforementioned group willing to throw their hat in the ring immediately to dance on Sacramento's corpse.

I live in a western Las Vegas area called Summerlin. The Oakland A’s AAA Affiliate The Las Vegas Aviators led Minor League Baseball in attendance in 2019 with 9,299 per game playing from April through September, occasionally in the daytime.

The Stadium is amazing. Third base line is the shade side. The food is restaurant quality and there’s dollar beer Thursdays.

The Las Vegas MLS proposal which had garnered the most traction prior to the outbreak of the COVID pandemic - that put forward by project manager The Renaissance Companies and backed by billionaire Seth Klarman of Baupost Group - called for both a roof and a roll-in field.

According to ESPN's Jeff Carlisle on May 31, 2019:

"According to Renaissance chairman Floyd Kephart, stadium architect Populous has already come up with a preliminary design, one that will account for the city's brutally hot summers. With average daytime highs in June, July and August exceeding 100 degrees, the venue will be domed with a retractable field."

    https://www.espn.com/soccer/major-l...28/las-vegas-mls-plan-includes-indoor-stadium

Per the Las Vegas Review-Journal of June 5, 2019:

"The preliminary stadium proposal calls for a covered roof with a retractable field and 25,000-person seating capacity."

    https://www.reviewjournal.com/news/...es-challenge-in-golden-knights-owner-1679634/

The stadium renderings that accompanied rumors of Flamengo being interested in participating in a Las Vegas-based MLS team were the same that had appeared in conjunction with The Renaissance Companies/Baupost Group endeavor. The only difference was the exterior of the stadium being tinted red and adorned with Flamengo logos.

Factor in Bill Foley's purported interest in backing a rival bid to land a Las Vegas-based MLS expansion franchise that could be based at Allegiant Stadium and one thing seems certain: the various folks behind these efforts don't seem to be planning on having their club playing home matches in daytime heat, or limiting said team to only playing at night.

Rather, their public pronouncements indicate that they're looking to build a new domed facility to house a Major League Soccer team, or - in the case of Foley - play in an existing domed stadium.

It would be if you can't expand it.

But they also have Cashman Field, downtown and expandable to 25k.

Its gotta be Cashman Field if its Vegas. Has to be. Premium location. But I am very......very surprised how slow any momentum has been trying to get things going there. Vegas has a reputation for being proactive and aggressive in new and exciting things, especially downtown, but.........MLS at Cashman gets some council members up in knots? Really?

We dont need anymore NYCFC silliness with the field dimensions.

Cashman Field is a "premium location"? Have you ever been to Cashman Field?

Also you have to love how one large crowd shows up to a game, mostly Mexican fans mind you, and suddenly Vegas is an MLS frontrunner?

Aren't they investing a lot of money in the downtown area?

Which is a shame because they used to have the best (cheapest to play) casinos.

Now its only somewhat mortifying. It's gotten better but it's still the sleazy second rate cousin of the Strip.

And yes it's relatively close, but it's still a mile away. And the area around the stadium isn't exactly going to set anyone's world on fire.

supposedly a SSS cashman would be surrounded by ancillary urban reclamation projects , not unlike the rail yards idea. Apartments, restaurants, hip bre businesses, and such, an anchor if you will

    Innovation District
Cashman Center is located within the Innovation District, which is a center for testing groundbreaking technologies created by the city of Las Vegas to encourage and attract tech companies of all kinds. A demonstration site it currently located within the Fremont East Entertainment District (FEED) and it allows testing of new technologies.

I think Mayor Goodman and the city council were in negotiations with that investment group to develop that Freemont-to-Cashman area in conjunction with a new SSS and MLS bid. I suppose COVID and those pesky city council members slowed/delayed progress.

yup, and I’m so confused by that. Vegas seems to want all the things, and are very proactive at allowing all of the things. What’s the angle of delay by then? Furthermore, COVID has actually been a great time to knock out construction and infrastructure projects. Someone’s Cheerios were pissed In and I don’t know enough about the Vegas Ciry council or local government to know whose

That article had a lot of good stuff

Renaissance chairman Floyd Kephart said in an email to the Review-Journal he does not know that an MLS franchise is available right now, but he believes one will be granted to Las Vegas in the next 24 months.

“We continue to monitor the situation; remain in touch with the City; believe Cashman is the best site for a new arena for the location of a MLS team and continue to be prepared to address the development opportunity when one becomes available,” Kephart said.
