Coach impressed, though it sounds like the incumbents are close to being back: https://www.90min.de/posts/hutter-em-fahrern-scally-alassane-plea-ruckkehr-hofmann-news-gladbach "On the other hand, I am reassured when I see Joe Scally replacing him at the moment. This is a promising player for the future who is versatile. At 18 he is already in really good shape physically. He also has played a very good game again today ", the Gladbach coach praised the American after the game against FC Groningen, in which Scally - as the only professional besides Yann Sommer - was allowed to play the full 90 minutes. In fact, it is becoming apparent that Joe Scally is seeded for the game in the first round of the DFB Cup. With the appearances in preparation, the 18-year-old has earned this commitment and thus his debut in a competitive game for the professionals of Borussia.
it seems like joe scally physically is just a different animal compared to the non bryan reynolds fullback prospects. he is big, strong, and fast to go with a seemingly high soccer iq. thats an easy combo to dream on and i wouldnt mind him playing journeyman honest left back even if that limits some of his offensive upside you might get on the right.
If he's as good as he's projecting to be I can see Egg doing this to get him and Dest on the field. Still can't believe this is the same guy that was at the u17 WC. He looks like one of the best RB prospects currently in the world right now. No hyperbole.
physically he reminds me of another Cade Cowell mold of a player, very strong with excellent speed. His technical game needs improvement. At 18, in a good team/league, he is already ahead of the game.
How many 18 year old fullbacks play in top 5 leagues? There can't be that many to argue they're superior.
Scally, already, is the 3rd most valuable U18 fullback according to Transfermarkt, and it's behind a guy from Hertha with 300 minutes and a guy from Ajax with 900 minutes. https://www.transfermarkt.com/spiel...&jahrgang=0&land_id=0&kontinent_id=0&yt0=Show If I expand the list to include 19 year olds, the only names I recognize above him are Ki-Jana Hoever and, funny enough, Bello and Araujo. Even with 20 year olds the only players I know are Tariq Lamptey to go along with Davies, Dest, and Reynolds. Suffice it to say I'd be very surprised if Scally isn't shooting up these rankings this year. As for @comoesa's point, I think he's underselling. I think Scally is at least a top 3 U18 fullback prospect after this year, and arguably #1.
That’s the physique of a top athlete. The other guy looks like a child by comparison. Couple that with solid technical ability and a good developmental fit this year and it’s clear we have a high-potential prospect on our hands with a great chance of breaking out!
1/ Fans of the #USMNT probably rightly believe the future is bright on the back of Sunday‘s Gold Cup success. That’s before we get to 18 yo Gladbach prospect Joe Scally who again has been singled out by Kicker as the club‘s “pre-season winner.” More in this short thread.— Derek Rae (@RaeComm) August 4, 2021 2/ Scally although a right back has impressed as deputy for the injured Ramy Bensebaini on the left. Coach Adi Hütter tells Kicker: “It’s reassuring to see the way he has filled in for Ramy. For me he’s a very promising & highly versatile player.”— Derek Rae (@RaeComm) August 4, 2021 3/ Hütter: “On top of that, at 18, he’s physically already well ahead.” Scally may well be given a chance at left back in Monday’s DFB-Pokal tie in Kaiserslautern as new signing from Hertha Luca Netz, a more natural left back, is unlikely to be thrown in immediately.— Derek Rae (@RaeComm) August 4, 2021 More praise from the German media. Starting to think they like him more then we do
Cool. I hope he is someone who develops the versatility to play anywhere along the back line. Ala Sergio Ramos. High level versatility, if you can pull it off, is great.
🎙️ #Hütter: "Every young player has a chance to make it into the team here. @jjscally_10 is the closest as he already has so much of what you need in modern football. Conor #Noß and Rocco #Reitz, who's gone out on loan, also have a lot of potential though."#DieFohlen #FCKBMG pic.twitter.com/MXYyAcWEBO— Gladbach (@borussia_en) August 6, 2021 Even more praise, this time from the head coach
as we have learned with weston, all other stuff goes out the window pretty fast if your managers like you. hopefully also like weston scallys manager likes him for good reason.
Just looked at when the Pokal game is and they play 3. Liga Kaiserslautern? What the heck happened to them?
