I'm a long-time Altice/Optimum/Cablevision customer also, and in recent times they are cranking up their prices, even when their product basically stays the same, at best. The geographically monopolistic nature of Cable/Internet is bad for customers... very bad.

IIRC it was around the same time last year.. for existing the gave customers the they left it at 4.99/mo or 49.99anually.. new customers was the new pricing

I opened the app and got slapped with a message of the price increase and to acknowledge the message..

50 to 70… ouch… and the sad part is that El Clasico is going to be televised on the linear channels..

I have U-Verse for TV and internet and they raise their prices once per year. The downside? It's about $7-8 per increase. Meanwhile, it seems everyone else raises their prices 3-4 times per year and maybe a dollar or so each time.

I suppose either way isn't necessarily better or worse.

    1) Raise once per year but $2-3 per increase.
    2) Raise several times per year, but minimal amounts.

It seems like there's 3-4 major cable ISPs with Charter, Cox (I think they're still around), Comcast and Cablevision. Most areas have smaller providers like Blue Ridge or WOW.

There's also AT&T and Verizon who have similar IPTV services. As of last I checked, Verizon FiOS had stopped rolling out to new customers due to expense, although I think they resumed. AT&T's new service is similar to Hulu, YTTV and other streaming providers, although they provide a receiver to customers who sign a two-year contract.

At least in metro areas, customers have choice, although I wonder how many people actually realize it. Just because someone has had "big cable" for 20+ years doesn't necessarily mean that's their only option.

That's a good point. But I live in the burbs where there's one high-speed option in town... Altice. I have customers in NYC and yes they have more choice for Internet, e.g. Spectrum or VZ FiOS, the latter being the gold standard for speed & reliability from what I can tell.

Thanks yeah it seems that way. We all thought in my part of Jersey once the big guys came in it would be better but nope it got worse. We used to have Service Electric from PA and never really had issues but we would all complain they had the monopoly in my county and wished we could get Vios. Then altice bought out Service Electric and with more use of WiFi from working and school remote I’ve never seen so many of my friends and neighbors complain now. But I only notice real buffering problems when watching live sports through ESPN and Fox apps. Plus we pay for Altice’s top tier WiFi.

La Liga loses most of it's luster, no Ronaldo or Messi.

I'm seeing the schedule for the first round of La Liga on the ESPN app, and I noticed two things: they're showing the first Segunda Division match on Friday on Plus, and the Barcelona/Sociedad match on Sunday will be on ESPN3 and Deportes. I don't see any matches on television in English for the first 2 rounds. Before the match on ESPN3, there looks like a special ESPNFC La Liga preview. Still curious who will the commentators on the big matches.

ESPN3 usually means the game is televised on ABC.

We should find out next week. ESPN did not carry any cup matches last year. I did not expect they would show the Cruyff Shield game this weekend

Good call. I just checked the schedule for my local ABC station, and it's showing there.

Yes, and I think they are carrying it this season but I'm more interested in the regular season games. I may end up trying and IPTV feed to see if this works.

1, GOLTV did show the Dutch Supercup this [ast weekend. )I do not get GOLTV, but I checled their listings on their webstie).

    2. ESPN+ will be carrying the Eredivisie this year. They have posted listings for three matches this weekend. (They are for the Spanish language audio, but that should be updated soon).

I don't care about the cup matches but if ESPN+ is back on board that is great news!!! I won't need to screw around with IPTV.

Jumping into Valencia v Getafe game late, so missed the names of commentators on ESPN right now. 100% already miss Ray and Phil doing La Liga.

It’s Sebastian Salazar and Casey Keller. One of them gets too excited and the other is never excited.

I thought the coverage on ABC of Barca v La Real was solid. You always have to brace yourself for off-the-charts muppetry when a European match is shown on a main channel like CBS, FOX or ABC but this wasn't too bad.
