Haha. I'm sorry for Sweden. I just spoke my mind. I thought they were above all teams in this tournament. They got just unlucky today. It remains to be seen if I jinxed also Spain on the men's tournament. I'll give my predictions for EURO 2023 when it comes around. I would love a certain team to win it. I won't reveal its name yet so I don't jinx them lol.
Unfortunate outcome. Canada steals the Gold. First, because Sweden was the best team in the tourney and the easily the better team today. What, 13 corner kicks? More? Gotta put one in. Had 2 chances to win it with PKs and squandered them both. Sweden looked a bit spent the last two matches--some tired legs. Credit to Canada for the their defensive prowess--without Lawrence Canada would be close to bad--but they're just as weak in attack as they've been for years. Greasy.
The whole backline was strong. Lawrence struggled at times today.... gassed from playing every minute, no doubt.
Brasil came close. They only scored one in the KO rounds last Olympics and lost the Bronze to Canada 2-1
I am very happy for Sinclair, with all her goals and this Olympic gold has made history. I will never forget her face when she protested in London 2012. Sinclair you have been compensated. Congratulations
And Sweden only scored one goal ( against the USA) to get to the gold medal match last time. they had to win 2 shootouts
Probably the worst way to lose a penalty shoot out when you have a chance to win it and screw it up. In my view this tournament highlighted how wide open women’s football is now. Plenty of teams can have it as a goal of winning the next WC.
What a terrible tournament for women’s football and awful penalties. Last Olympics was the same basically, the teams don’t play to their potential
Grosso really put on her game face on for this kick. She was like: "eff you, 'ball', you're going in the net".
Canada, the worst team to ever win a major tournament. Scored ZERO goals in the final three games in run of play. Out possessed in final 5 matches Scored what, 2 goals in run of play the entire tournament? Had ONE shot on goal in win over GB with 37% of possession. Relied on the generosity of refs to advance. worst championship team in history. snoozeville.
They had the best defence in the tournament and when they had a legit opportunity to score they were fouled in the box. The other teams weren't good enough this time to breach their defence and beat the keeper - therefore, the gold medal
