That's the last of 'the magnificent seven' finally gone. A nice bit of business to my mind. No complaints. I hope Lamela does well at Sevilla. It's worth pointing out that they're a very well run club, and while I like how the deal has worked for us, you've got to think that they're rating Lamela fairly highly. If he stays healthy - hardly a given - he'll do well in Spain. He's got the skills for that league. And they'll certainly get effort. Gil, though. Let's hope the videos and all the talk do him justice. Exciting times, really. Who'd've thought that a couple months back?
Paratici has made a huge difference - Levy would never have been able to negotiate this kind of deal, or if he did, it would have taken until October.
Yup. The last couple of summers, Daniel's gotten one big deal done early, and you'd think to yourself, 'maybe he's realized the folly of his traditional modus operandi'. And then the rest of the summer would go as normal. What's impressing me about Paratici is not just this deal - apparently somewhat complex, yet still done quickly - but his ability to have multiple irons in the fire and keep them all moving along. Quite right, definitely a big change.
Alderweireld is official. I would rather see him leave than watch him sit on the bench because he's slowed down. Best of luck.
He'll do well financially. And if you're playing in Qatar - pardon the cynicism - that's probably all that matters.
According to reports, Paratici never sleeps, lol. But seriously, this is what I was calling for, an EXPERIENCED director of football who does ALL the football-related stuff while Herr Levy does what he does best - count the beans. Something in my Spur-dar tells me this is too good to be true, something will happen to eff it all up and we will end up with Sam Allardyce as manager.
£100m for Grealish, if true, would suggest £160m for Kane is pretty reasonable. Jack probably has a bit more sell-on value and perhaps has a bit more upside, but Kane is as close as you can get to a guaranteed 20+ goals a season. I still think City will come for Harry they’re not going to go a full season without an Aguero replacement.
GONE: Juan Foyth, Danny Rose, Paulo Gazzaniga, Erik Lamela, Toby Alderweireld SHOULD BE GONE: Joe Hart, Harry Winks, Eric Dier, Serge Aurier, Moussa Sissoko and Davinson Sanchez Gives you an idea of just how bad the squad is. Actually quite amazing that we finished 7th with this driftwood.
It's all been underway for awhile ... but now it can really start. Harry Kane: Tottenham striker fails to show up to Spurs' training ground - BBC Sport I love Harry Kane and always will, but f*ck him off to City already, Daniel. Get him out, get another one - a good one - in, pronto. Every pound you 'save' by dragging it out will be paid for on the pitch, and then some. Get it done.
I’m sure someone will point out a time when Levy’s hardline tactics had a long-term net benefit to the club, but my distorted view says most of the time it doesn’t. It destabilizes the team, hamstrings the manager’s plans, sours the relationship between star player, puts undue pressure to spend the windfall without much time to properly identify replacements. Bale, Berbatov, Modric, Eriksen, Keane and now Kane. It’s going to happen, we all know it and Levy isn’t going to get as much money as he wants. Accept it and move on.
I wouldn't have been against selling Kane but ironically, him deciding to go nuclear would harden my resolve to not sell him, if I were Levy. From Kane's perspective, he's betting that angry Spurs supporters will forget about this as time passes - just like they did with Bale and Berbatov. What's different about this situation is that he means more to the club than Bale or Berba ever did. So, I'm not sure that fans will easily forgive and forget if he forces his way out.
The absolute clown car of a manager search this summer gives me zero confidence of there being any sort of plan for Kane – staying or going. It’s just typical Levy reactive posturing.
Desperately trying to distract from the Kane stories, it seems some good news is coming with Joe Hart leaving for Celtic, and Romero getting closer all the time. Atalanta have apparently lined up his replacement and we've met the asking price. (Take note, sheik whatsisname of Manchester).
Levy took the wrong approach. Kane is going to leave and everyone knows it. So, sell now or wait another ruined season and sell later? Levy should have been out there aggressively peddling Kane. Let's work out a deal - money is tight due to COVID, so you can pay in installments. Getting a chunk of money now for a replacement or two, and then having guaranteed money coming in the next couple years would be a good deal for us. And he should have been making this offer to teams in other leagues, too.
Is Kane leaving a certainty though? Looks like he'll be back at training later in the week. What you're describing there is desperation. Levy doesn't deal from positions of weakness. He's not going to let it be known that he's willing to part with his best player in hopes of creating a bidding war, much less when money is tight everywhere around the world. What's likely happened here is that Charlie Kane thought that a deal was imminent and/or that City were willing to pony up the cash to get a deal done. That's when he, wrongly, decided to advise his brother to go on strike to get it over the line. When he realized that he had grossly miscalculated how much City were willing to spend, the two Kanes went into damage control mode, which is why they're acting like things have been "blown out of proportion".
Kane will leave. He will not finish his career with Spurs (unless he gets a career ending injury, which I am not hoping for). And if we get Romero, we will be going through this shit in 3 years when he wants to go to Real or Barca.
