The relevant part from the article:

Fede Oliva has already been an international, representing the USA at youth level, but the Argentine Football Association (AFA) has already contacted him to inform him they’re expecting him for the future. However, the Spanish Football Federation is keeping tabs on him as well. He will not be eligible until next year, when he reaches ten years in the country. If he continues his progression, he may run into the dilemma of having to choose between three national teams.

Well, disappointing. Addition to our biggest rival is not good. And add in two straight losses to el tri this summer in Ochoa and Alvarez. Jona Gonzalez makes that three in a row. Can’t say that’s not concerning

Saw some stuff on Twitter about Mexican amercians not feeling comfortable in the US camp or something. Not sure on the legitimacy of the sources, but yeah, it's definitely concerning.

Different regimes sure. And who knows if any of these guys will even be a loss, they might just not be good enough. But I'd rather have more players pushing for the USNT than less.

    Too bad.

I think Ochoa's decision is understandable and wish him well. I'm trying to create a 23 man squad for the September matches, and I'm having trouble because there are just too many players in contention.

The intriguing aspect of this is that it isn't just Europe that has started recruiting in MLS - it's also Mexico.

He currently plays for Real Salt Lake.
Others who could arrive are: Julian Araujo and Richard Ledezma, hopefully they will soon decide and be called.

And another one that is much better ;)

Honestly weird for him to have accepted a call up to a camp where he could have been cap-tied to the US (would have taken a double injury, but still), and then turn around and perma-switch two months later. I'd like to read some good reporting on what happened here.

Meh. I get it. Mexican Americans identify with el tri.

I also LOL at Mexico because United States and MLS develop some of their players quite the turnaround.

Ochoa and Gomez are good. But Kevin paredes is the better prospect than Gomez and losing out on a 20 year old gk isn’t necessarily going to make me sad.

Ricardo Pepi is the must have.

I just don't believe that. All we ever hear about is how great the environment is in the US camp and how much the players genuinely enjoy being there. It's the one thing dual nationals always seem to comment about.

In the Ringer article posted today about Berhalter, there's a comment about from his first day there Yunus Musah says it's such a brotherhood and that he felt like he was part of it already. And if you watch all the content posted by US Soccer about this Gold Cup team on Youtube, it's pretty clear how tight this group is.

I think Ochoa just preferred to be with Mexico. Given that neither team was calling him up to start for the senior team either way, there was no need to rush a decision. At the end of the day we wanted Ochoa with the US, but if in his heart that's not where he wants to be, then he should go where he feels most at home. It's unfortunate, but we're lucky to have three goalkeepers I'd feel good about playing in WCQ. I hope it works out better for him that it seems like it will for Efra Alvarez.

I do wonder if we made the Olympics and if he was in Tokyo with the Olympic team right now, whether Mexico would have even had the opening to be able to get him to switch sides.

Yeah, and we know guys like McKennie, Cannon, and McKenzie are pretty involved in efforts to fight racism. I know that just because someone is alert to one type of discrimination, it doesn't automatically make them alert to other forms of discrimination, but I find it hard to believe that these specific young guys would not fully include anyone on the basis of his race or ethnicity.

At some point if this keeps happening its going to discourage future dual nationals from playing for Mexico.

Independent of depth charts I think the US is more willing to play young players, and any dual national who does commit is going to get opportunities.

Not going to the Gold Cup was a huge missed opportunity for Araujo as he would have played quite a bit. Instead its Shaq Moore whose gotten himself in the picture for WCQ.

It’s bordering on ridiculous. I’d never root for a Mexican player anyway, but I’ll take even greater glee if Ochoa sucks.

dude is two months removed from storming the field and celebrating with teammates after his team just beat Mexico.

Clown behavior to switch NOW. imo

You're right, but you didn't mention any Mexican Americans.

Another guy on Twitter from fox deportes is saying there will be more, hinting at Jon gomez.

Again - I have no clue. But usually in these things where there's smoke, there's fire.

Turner's performance in the Gold Cup literally had the power to make a man switch nationalities.

yeah idk....I sympathize with ANY player thinking of trying to become a right back for the USMNT at the moment....the incumbant is like 22 and starts for freaking Barcelona...and then there's like 15 other players who could or have played in top 5 leagues at the position. Its literally insane.

Further down in the replies this guy says that they're already signed by a Euro club but apparently this reporter might have some credibility concerns. The reporter also says that they have Araujo.

Would qualifying for the Olympics have even been enough? If I'm the US manager, then I would have given 1 of my 3 overage spots to Horvath or Turner, and this was an argument that I remember making back in March.

I mean we have a pretty diverse team with a variety of backgrounds. It would be odd if somehow there was a problem for solely Mexican Americans in the US camp and for no one else. It also cuts against what we’ve heard over and over about what a great environment the senior team camps are. Random people on Twitter spouting off isn’t evidence of anything. Going to need something a bit more credible than that to say there is anything to it.

Sometimes these things aren’t anyone’s fault. As many have said we’ve given Ochoa a ton of opportunities and he can’t really say he was ignored or mistreated. He just preferred Mexico, it’s an unfortunate loss but I don’t think it’s because of anything we did or didn’t do. Berhalter especially seems to be very on top of these dual national battles.
