I don't mind if Santos stays ONLY if he gets an assistant that is offensively literate and can advise Santos. It's clear that Ilidio Vale is just as clueless as Santos and needs to be replaced.

I don’t think shit canning Santos beyond truths is really any help. He is a coach from an older football mentality, it’s also partly his right hand man Ilidio Vale who is ultra defensive in his football philosophy and had Santos ear above anyone else. The FPF would be wise to move him on and bring in a more progressive manager from the underage categories or if they could somehow get him Helio Sousa who was a former junior coach at the FPF. He’s an excellent tactical coach who’s teams always played good football.

Well, I don't know if you live in Portugal or not, but believe it or not Rui Malheiro from RTP and Record said exactly the same thing a couple of weeks ago.

That instead the Portuguese Football Federation hiring so many journalists to Canal 11, they should use their money and hire someone to coach the offensive organization of the team.

Because from his point of view when Ilidio Vale managed the under 20's to that final in 2011 we lost against Brazil our football was similar to what we play under Santos.

Maybe he knows what he is talking about...

anyone who’s watched any team that Ilidio vale coached at the underage levels knows the guy is a fraud.

He’s there because they’re friends and front the same generation of Portuguese football.

Santos is for all his faults a very loyal person and deeply religious he won’t take the sacking of Vale lightly.

Santos is suited to coach a lower talented team. He does not have the creativity to coach a talented team. Furthermore, our country is full of bullshit politics, corruption and favouritism, we need a coach with not ties to any of this.

If Xeka was a SLB player, guaranteed he gets called.

I understand your frustration but calling Xeka wouldn’t of made one iota of difference at these Euros. I called for Santos to go after the World Cup when it was clear he wasn’t he right coach to take this team into the future. But credit where it’s due, not many coaches could’ve assed their way the way he did in 2016. If it was up to me Leonardo Jardim would be the Portuguese coach right now but we’re stuck supporting the Selecao with Santos in charge.

thats analysis is completely fair but Portugal is an old country with some cultural norms that don’t make sense to those of us who’ve grown up in new world western countries, it takes something like Italy missing the World Cup to change their mindset. That’s how bad things need to get.

Trust me I’m as angry as you but I’m also realistic. Santos sets his teams up not to lose which is fine but in doing that he also minimises our chances of winning because of his negative tactics. Yes we’re a hard team to beat but it’s also unlikely that we will beat you thats the honest truth under Santos. He sets his teams up at the start as if we have a 1-0 lead and there’s 15 minutes to go. It’s a baffling setup, it’s the attitude of a small team. Winning a tournament requires good fortune but playing good football stays in peoples minds and gives your team a good chance of winning too.

Thinking back about it, losing the league with Jardel should have been reason to fire him on the spot before the 3rd year. It's just that I remember Octavio Machado being so bad it made Santos look ok, and Mourinho a god. :ROFLMAO:

Once again Renato Sanches not playing? Probably will leave the club. Curious that last season he started half the games compared to Xeka, I know he had physical problems but he needs to step up at club level, he isn't consistent.
