Rubbing this in the noses of the mexican fans is a feeling beyond description. We beat their A team with our C team and sent 50k mexican fans home shell-shocked and unhappy, oh how sweet it is!! :D:thumbsup::ROFLMAO:

Glad the USA beat Mexico! After 30 years of Gold Cup play, this playing "home games" on the road is getting way too old for the USMNT.

It was a young US squad that seemed weak at first but to improve with each passing game.

None of the star players like McKennie or Pulisic were there so adding those guys to this group may help immensely in WCQ and hopefully at the WC.

You probably mean the USMNT playing "road games" at home (since Las Vegas is in the U.S.), but I get your overall point. ;)

What will be the surrounding mood when it's time to pick up the next card this week, though?

Either way. they are playing on US soil with a predominantly pro Mexican fan base.

They even had a Mexican or Spanish speaking rock group open up during the pregame ceremony. I don't see how this motivates the USMNT although it could have helped Mexico and their fans.

I love the Hispanic community and I majored in Spanish, speak it fluently and even taught it for a while. Still, this is not right that the US has to endure this type of hostile environment each game. They even had to stop the game with an invasion on the field. That could have hindered the US as well.

This has been going on way too long though but not only with Mexico. Back in May 1985, the United States was eliminated 0–1 against Costa Rica in Torrance, California.

The NASL had just folded and the USSF even organized a halftime Costa Rican folk dance for the Costa Rican fans. That loss eliminated the USA from World Cup 1986 in Mexico.

I don’t see how any of this helps promote US and/or American soccer, or for that matter, our national team program. If anything, it always seems to be a step forward and two or three back.

I also saw more cups and bottles being chucked at US players after they had won...disgraceful.

I was going to add that, a real class act from the mexican fans.

I missed that. We didn't watch for very long after the final whistle. Just long enough to hear gAlexi choked up and almost sobbing. Mrs bsman just looked at me and said: I guess he's human after all..."

they had to stop the game during the Nations League Final...

USMNT-Mexico Nations League final halted for anti-gay chant by fans (espn.com)

...players were getting pelted and hit in the head with full drinks.

it wasn't as bad this time from what I saw. as the US team was celebrating after the final whistle near the sideline, I saw at least two drink containers land near them, luckily missing their target.

I was not moved by Alexi's tear fest, he always seems like a phony. I do appreciate Rob Stone though, he never seems to age and has been a great announcer for US Soccer for as long as I can remember.

That I remember - as well as the frequent and loud P*TO chants when the US goalkeeper kicked goal kicks. Klassy bunch of folks...

Perhaps I could go to The Longhorn and have myself a steak sandwich, a baked potato and a drink [IMG], but I think that they're closed on Mondays. :(

Falafel STOP and Jakes are both open and right next door to Longhorn, but maybe off theme for your celebration meal.

    Maybe Armadillo Willy's?

Thank you for the suggestions. :)

On most any other day I'd have no problem trying them out, but I'm sure that they're pretty off theme for today (what kind of food does Jakes serve?).

    Is Armadillo Willy's any good?

In Santa Cruz I like mission bbq and aptos bbq (related businesses), their brisket (lean) after riding in wilder ranch or nisene marks has always been good, over here Henry’s hi life although I haven’t been there for awhile.
