Zimmerman has been better, but that's to be expected. He's older, more experienced, more polished. Robinson hasn't played badly by any stretch, but Zimmerman's definitely got the edge in this Gold Cup. I think Miles is definitely in contention to be one of the starters for the '26 cycle, and he should get some caps in qualifiers this cycle as a sub or a rotational guy. I wouldn't start him against Mexico's A team yet, though.

Miles starting for the US again vs Jamaica in the Gold Cup QF. Needs to stand tall today without Zimmerman as his partner. Appears that of the MLS central defenders Miles is steady pick for the US.

Bello again on the bench. Might be a little early for him to be a starter, yet, given his age. Might get a run today, though, as speed will be a critical factor in this match.

Guzan now likely cemented as a back-up for his remaining days.

Maybe they can stop calling Guz up if they aren't going to play him? This squad is all young guns so why even bring Guzan into camp? Gregg Berhalter is a twat.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's the leader in the locker room. If you wanted to bring in an experienced guy without taking playing time from the kids, backup GK is the place to do it. Sucks for Atlanta, but I understand why Berhalter did it. Wouldn't be surprised to see him take Guzan as a third keeper to Qatar either, if we make it.

Yeah, when there are so many other people on the roster that haven't even reached double digits in international appearances, let alone in cup play, having experiences guys around matters. Plus, I'd rarely begrudge anyone for call ups in matches that matter. Friendlies? Sure.

Indeed, and Bello gets the start.

I have nothing but loathing and venom for the bad apples among the El Tri fans. One of the few groups I simply can't get over despite my age. Would love, love, love for them to lose tonight, but I'll keep it realistic.

Bello comes out at the 65' mark. Squirted himself well, I say (Still scoreless after all) but did play a little too loose. Granted, that was one of the most aggressive attacks he'll face for a while.

Nothing new in this match, just the history of throwing stuff in the pitch, being a-holes, etc.

One thing is for certain, Miles will be away during any WC qualifier. Happy for him. Must have been sweet to head home the game winner after Saint Tata couldn't give him any playing for his first two years in Atlanta.

Tata probably didn't think, "Man this hurts even more because the goal was scored by a guy I didn't give time- boy, he really showed me where I ********ed up on the way to the league title".

But hey, if it fueled Miles, so be it. Spiffy. I'm hoping it carries over to the rest of the season.

I am sure Tata doesn't give a shit it was Miles Robinson with the winner, if anything I am sure Martinez was happy for him. But for Miles, judging by his Cheshire grin, it had to be a sublime moment. It was a great cap to a brilliant tournament. He played ever minute of every game, was a rock in the defense, and bagged two goals, one of which was the winner in the final.

Yeah, I'm guessing issues 1, 2, and 3 for Tata has to be Mexico's poor finishing. Allowing 1 goal to the US B-team over 120 mins isn't the main problem.

That said, I have nothing but loathing for El Tri, so f*** em.

Miles Robinson gets the start for the USMNT in their first WCQ in El Salvador.

Not that anyone can watch since it's on CBSsports.

Forgot to note, Josef started in Venezuela's 1-3 loss to Argentina Thursday. Ronald Hernandez came on as a sub. Venezuela was handcuffed by a straight red around the 30' mark.

Usually I cringe when our players get international call ups... but in Josef's case I think it helps us. Find your form King!

Miles gets the starts for the US yet again, this time the home match against Canada. Means he'll be playing opposite Alphonso Davies for a lot of plays. Miles also paired with John Brooks for the first time, so it will be interesting to see who leads among the pair.

Well, that was painfully familiar. US with a lot of possession but not a lot of quality shots.

    * sigh *

Meanwhile, Josef did not play for Venezuela yesterday, but Hernandez played the full 90. But Venezuela lost in Peru due to a red around the 30' mark, so they're gonna be desperate from here out. Unless they've released Josef ahead of Thursdays match in Paraguay there's no way the two of those guys will be available for the showdown with Orlando.

Both Bello and Robinson get the start against Honduras tonight, meaning they're not likely to feature at all Friday.

Really, really pissed now that MLS has Friday games after an international break.

Friday matches after an international break is insanity. The MLS needs to give up this inferiorty complex that says we can't play during the NFL season and follow the international schedule. At the very least completely suspend play during international breaks. It is crazy to be in the playoff race without the league's best players.

But which "international schedule?" England, Germany, Spain, and Italy play in months where Toronto, Montreal, New Jersey, and New England would be miserably cold and snowy. Mexico and lots of South American leagues play two separate seasons. Brazil goes May to December (sort of... Brazilian football is complicated). Other UEFA federations play their ball from March to November... just like MLS. It has nothing to do with an inferiority complex and everything to do with weather.

I do agree, though, that MLS needs to have an actual break for the international window. I wonder if the three-game window will continue after the COVID panics subside.
