Inside the MLS for sure; won't cost the owner a dime; they can trade, use allocation money, etc.

Hate to keep harping on it, but it all boils down to him. Axel can certainly spend that cap money on better players than the last two guys brought in, but there is only so far you can go.

We spent 15 million plus on transfer fees (mostly davies money), and used it to buy mid card players who fit within the MLS funded salary structure. Cava is a good signing but if a team wants an actual impact player the salary will be higher. There are plenty of players in a 2 - 3 million range out there. The Caps just won't kick in much (other than a few hundred grand if necessary) to build the squad. Therefore, they continue to be a low budget hanger-on and that is sad because that is why the market was turning on them and why they were losing ticket buyers by the thousands.

We also shouldnt let them blame it on covid and its affect on revenues. While that may be legitimate this year, it wasn't the first decade they played in MLS.

Its just the ownership we have and everything starts at the top.

GlassCity reports that the Caps are seriously looking at AMF, alan patrick, 30, who plays with Shakhtar Donetsk in the ukraine first division- might be a loan

Alan Patrick - Player profile 20/21 | Transfermarkt

loaned out so many times, he looks like a 'shake and bake' player- never quite good enough to hang around- a suitcase player

how transfermarkt values him at 8 Mill euros is beyond me !! somebody is pumping him up in order for donesk to cash in

i dont trust a player who has been suit-cased around- its a red flag - the Caps can and should do better

Brian White is a fine depth player and should help the club. Nothing wrong with moves within the league; however, we get frustrated because its more of the same and not going out for an impact level player.

Funny how the twitter insiders didn't have a whiff of this move going down.

Egbo goes out on loan and IF (at the start of the July window) the big DP signing is more of a Pozuelo/Giovinco second striker type, I would not be surprised to see Bair go out on loan to CPL, leaving White and Ricketts as the forwards.

I also don't see Cornelius finishing the season here but then again, I am beginning to believe that the coach is officially on the clock so things might change when Clark takes over.

There: the twitter warriors can investigate those leads.

are you dripping us with Steve Clarke of Scotland ?? quite the rumor

but i agree that Axel is lining up another coach -- its not IF, its When ?

when the FO leader gives the head coach a vote of confidence, the coach is on a fast-moving time watch -

personally, i would hope that MDS can turn the ship around, but after over 2 years, i dont see his ability to get the best out of the players he does have - there is a growing disconnect, a lack of belief amongst the players - working your arses off is not enough

Lol! The only Scottish guys I would want managing are dead (Busby, Shankly, Stein). Ok, maybe Ferguson from 25 years ago. No one else, thanks.

Ricardo Clark can get his feet wet as the interim gaffer while "Wayne &" Schuster brings in his guy (though I would have like Dasovic in the interim role because of his experience with Academy guys, especially the maligned Bair).

The current coach is definitely on the clock and isn't helped by the possibility of losing international call ups during the Gold Cup stretch of several league matches. Or maybe the only guy going is pressbox presence Metcalfe, who knows?

The twitter "insiders" are a lot of smoke and mirror. Yes, they do the work reading and scouring the internet for rumors and notes in other countries so it looks like they have better sources than they really do; but they throw out so many rumors and ideas and starting lineup possibilities that they are wrong most of the time but look like insiders when somehow they blindly get it right :)

I appreciate their effort as it gives a good news feed and things that most of us are not investing the time into finding ourselves; but the days of scoops and secret sources by real or pretend reporters are long since gone. Most things get out and leaked pretty quickly somewhere by someone.

I think there is much more value on commentary and analysis than being someone trying to be the first to tweet something or trying to put up a facade of some deeply connected secret source.

Yah, but all the spin-doctoring makes for good reading- you gotta take it for what its worth and dont worry about the mystical pronostigators that try to entice us into their honeycomb

A WHOLE LOT OF HOT AIR: re: signing of ryan gauld for a $3 mill/year salary

of course, i would be delighted to see a good #10 player coming in- Ryan Gauld seems to tick all the boxes you would want and we have long-suffered for a true AMF

    BUT- 3 questions:

    1. why would a player in his prime years (he is 25) want to leave euro football opportunities to come to MLS ?

    2. Why would Gault want to come to such a dysfunctional Club, FO, coaching staff and erratic team performances ? surely the whitecaps negative profile in europe is well-known

    3. AND THE BIGGEST- why would the ownership be willing to open their collective moth-bitten wallets to a tune of $3 mill salary (the MLS salary allottment is- as usual- spent and we are at the BOTTOM of spending), in a year when there is no money coming in from attendances and have never, ever spent beyond the MLS salary level for 11 years, except by a couple of $100K ? what would inspire kerfoot and company to have such spending madness ??

    still skeptical this will happen

but now that ali adnan has gone (lucky guy!!), the Club has $1 mill extra for salary within the MLS allottment- so still short $2 mill

we can always assume 100% that the owners will NOT put out extra money on players' salaries to that tune

The club Gauld was playing with got relegated and his contract expires be next year. Probably in his and the club’s interest for him to find a new home while he still has some transfer value. Vancouver has to make a sales pitch to get players to come. It isn’t players first choice, for sure. Might be their only decent choice, though.

From the "no surprise" department: Adnan and the club part ways via mtually agreed contract termination. Too bad they couldn't transfer him.

the Adnan situation reminds me of the mess around the Caps loosing camilo sanvezzo in 2013-2014 just after he had won the Golden Boot Award (23 goals)

i dont believe anything that the Caps say about visa hassles-- why is he the only player who never got one ?? OH YA... he is a highly paid ($1.227 mill) defender

it always ALWAYS comes down to $$$$$$$$$$$$$ with this 'Club"- i dont believe anything has changed from the negative days of lenarduzzi and anderson -- Schuster is just another mouth-piece for the ownership group

Adnans money is covered by MLS funds for the most part so it isn't a cost saving move. There was a legitimate VISA issue that is fact. However, his agent has met with clubs in the past and earlier this year, so its pretty clear he wanted out anyways. Axel for whatever talent he may have has become another bootlicker yes man selling what they want him to sell to the public. He is certainly making himself look bad in professional circles.

Axel tried to pull the "he was out of shape" as the reason they couldn't sell him. That is utter nonsense. He has been playing internationals for Iraq. He also got wind of Axel saying this and posted a video of him flashing his 6 pack abs.

For whatever talent Axel has, he is still working for the same owner and the same left and right hands of Rachel Lewis and Greg Anderson. With those three still the ones running the ship, it doesnt' really matter what else they change. The long term outcome will be a similar thing. The club is once again a dumpster fire as it is regularly.

As for Gauld'; I know Mr Glass City keeps touting that he knows and has confirmed this signing. As has been said on this forum by hotpotato, how on earth do we think Kerfoot would suddenly pay a MLS Caps record salary, and how on earth would a mid 20s player come to the bottom of the MLS when he is known in Europe and a decent enough player. Mr City throws out a lot of these player rumors and they generally don't happen. I guess it keeps people talking. Caps can make 'offers" knowing they will not work just to make it look like they are trying.

well said-- i think that axel will need a new tongue soon

re: GC-- some guy called WHEELER reported that TFC is interested in Robo as their next head coach-- it was worth a laugh to read it- will never, ever happen

i remember when some supporters said that robo would be hired by some team in the premier or championship league after leaving the Caps-- another good laugh- now carl is with a near bottom team in australia which is about his level as a coach - spin doctors in any area always eventually get caught in their own web

    waiting for langley fc

Wheeler is the guy who does Play By Play for the National Team on One Soccer. I find him to be awful; I am not sure why on earth he got the gig. He is decent to talk about soccer on their news daily; but he is the drizzling crap at commentary.

Are you sure he reported that? Maybe just his own personal desire? (the Toronto based soccer media really really really really really love Carl). I can't see TFC hiring a guy with such a poor record.

Well it looks like DONE DEAL FOR AMF RYAN GAULD- it looks like $1.5 mill used for 3 years and a transfer fee of about $400 K; looks like MLS $$$$$ will be used which explains why the deal could happen- still can't figure why a good AMF in his prime would come to this SHITE CLUB, but hopefully he will be one of the 2 players we are missing (CB IS THE OTHER) TO MAKE A PUSH FOR THE PLAYOFFS- it may be short-term and then a profitable euro sale which would make sense for the money-driven owners under Greg kerfoot- HE IS AN INVESTMENT

    He fits the Caps cheapness

1 - Salary covered by MLS and allocation monies
2 - Transfer fee paid by money they have from other player sales

    so that works.

My question that will gnaw on me until we see a few months of this player, is WHY would he come here. A talented player, in a European league in the midst of his prime, is highly unlikely to leave and come to the bottom of the MLS table. It isn't because they are over paying him, his salary is not outrageous. So what is it? Does he need a fresh start? Did nobody else want him? Does he have off field issues? We have brought in players before and the question is often "why would he come here" and then we find out there are significant issues with the player.

We are likely losing Cava so this will be interesting to watch. Axel has been better at choosing players, MDS is awful, and the financial handcuffs are tough.

well, if Gauld is the quality of player and teammate that he reportedly is, then with 10/15 home games, the Caps can reach contention for the playoffs; if cava is transferred at the wrong time, well then there has to be another young striker coming in and it might not be enough

but we can agree that the Caps will only use MLS $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

We will get his true salary later in the year when the PA releases that, but from all accounts it seems the invisible owner actually did buck up a bit for this guy if his salary comes in over 2 million (they had around 1.6 they could have had covered by cap and allocations).

Kerfoot never seemed to get the point that if you put out a better squad you will sell more tickets and merch and higher ad dollars and voila, pay for it.

Gauld could capture the city in a way we have not seen since Camilo; if he keeps up the kind of play we saw this past weekend. Would bring back a lot of those apathetic fans next season.

I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD SAY THIS AGAIN- but i will :

WHAT A GREAT GAME ON SATURDAY VS LAFC!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gauldi is giving me belief that he can galvanize the team to succeed unlike any other player that has been a Cap player since the great english MF, alan ball, in 1979

the Caps had me rocking at the game when gauld scored the winner-- a special moment, a great memory, and inspiring come-back

and when the team sang to the supporters, it galvanized the connection between the players and the fans

is it possible to make the playoffs ?? is there any team in MLS hotter than the Caps?? 2 wins, 6 ties in the last 8 games and with 9/15 games at home to end the season, the playoffs are a DEFINITE POSSIBILITY

and who would have thunk that 2 months ago ??

FWIW-- 43rd year of going to the cap games with my son- TRADITION!!!! he dragged me to the game and i am sooooo thankful he did

...and then they sh*t the bed against Pacific FC in the Vees Cup! With a sh*tty performance featuring all your favourites: Nice Guy/No Talent Jake, Coach on the Field Andy Rose, Ryan "We Could Have Had Daryl Dike" Raposo, Patrick "I Miss Rusty" Metcalfe, Brian F. White, and bunch of other underachieving supporting cast members. Gauld seemed to give a damn, at least.

If they lose against RSL this Sunday, I wonder what the songs will be? How about, "Whatta load of rubbish! Whatta load of rubbish!"

Simply awful performance in a statement making match. And the statement made? "We're still sh*te!" But fortunately, there is a lot of the same in the lower end of the conference of this league, so there is still hope.

Yes, that stadium is outstanding from what I saw on TV :)

Reminds me of when TFC was in MLS and Caps were still USL and that great game that the Caps won at Swangard. Ansou Toure with two goals.

This was the infamous 2009 tournament that saw Montreal appear to match fix by losing 6-1 so TFC got through on goal differential.

The coach of that Montreal laydown was none other than MDS.

Teitur deserved that trophy in 2009.
