I've been pleasantly surprised by the level of play considering the non existent preseason some teams have had.

My player of the bubble so far is Andrew Jean Baptiste. He's been heads and shoulders above everyone else.

17 years old Keenan Ferdinand was a baller in his game tonight. That was nice to see.

I'm excited to see some of the late added, higher profile imports see the field soon for their various teams as they end quarantine.

That "R" policy died a death on BigSoccer at least 10 years ago, and good riddance to it. https://www.bigsoccer.com/posts/28431859

@DoyleG, it's still in the Canada forum's rules (from 2005). Can we please get some guidance? Are the two CPL threads in fact not allowed to discuss what happens in the CPL? :D

I watched Valour vs Ottawa today.

Keesean Ferdinand - the 17 year old defender on loan from CF Montreal has been the best young player in the league. He's got the tools and composure needed to be a pro already which is impressive.

No one else on Ottawa has impressed me at all.

Valour continued their identity of being tough to break down. Andrew Jean Baptiste continues to be their best player. Their GK is also solid. They've had a lot of good, consistent performers this season but no one other than the two players I've listed have really made a case for playing at a higher level than the CPL.

Abzi and Bustos are the only two I see moving on to a higher league so far based on their play this season.

I think York United have something in Lowell Wright and Max Ferrari.

Ferdinand had a bad game last week and was pulled at half time once

My top 3 young player prospects so far are:

Abzi looks like he is a breakout player. I have read "people" are looking at him.
Wright is showing a good set of skill sets for a 17 year old.
Sirois is on a better trajectory than Pantemis.

Looks like the York United rebrand might be working. The home opener is near a sell out

I'm assuming the CPL is restricted to 50% capacity like other sports. That would make a sell out 4000, no?

I tried to check the actual attendance but, very unfortunately, the CPL game reports don't appear to be including that any more. Hopefully they and the other teams do well in the stands.

I see Christine Sinclair and a whole lot of people clamouring for a women’s league in Canada. I don’t see it happening for lots of reasons. I could see a NWSL team in Toronto though.

NWSL would be a terrible idea, you'd pretty much kill any hopes of getting a domestic league going in this country

Where is a women’s domestic league going to appear from?

CPL but the league said it wanted to make sure that the men's side was established.

Soccer Canada has a main responsibility here as it helped launched the NWSL. If they want a women's league faster than CPL's timetable, they will have to provide some support and leadership in that project.

They should also bring the 3 MLS clubs at the table.

No way CPL undertakes adding a women’s side with their men’s side recovering from a pandemic and still dealing with lots of issues with the players union - minimum pay etc. They aren’t going to double their already huge losses at this early stage. They are still years away from stability.

I agree the CSA has a responsibility to assist, but without serious investors, they can’t do anything.

I also agree the Canadian MLS teams should get involved, however, I don’t see Joey Saputo jumping in considering the financial losses he is always complaining about with CF Montreal (and the veiled threats he might have to do something with the club as a result). That leaves TFC and the Caps.

I understand the women’s desire for a league but people saying “if a gold medal doesn’t result in the start up of a women’s league, nothing will” is incredibly simplistic.

Agreed with all the points above, maybe it starts at making D3 more professionnel and build a regional D2 with D1 happening eventually whenever CPL is ready for it.*

*CPL owns L1O thus the Women's league too.

All I'm saying is that No Women's league can exist without Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto

Also, I can totally see why CPL won't do it unless the CSA invest significant cash in it like they did in NWSL. (Which was surprising to learn)
